Having watched the Christmas Special ..... I have to disagree.

Probably as for me that was a rather disappointing one hour TV, nowhere near as good as last year's Xmas Special. David Morrissey is an outstanding actor as he proved again last night, but sometimes you can have the right person in the wrong role. So I'm glad all was revealed last night. (If you have not watched it, go to BBC iPlayer to view).

But overall the script felt rather clumsy, hackneyed & cliched by Dr Who standards which some outstanding acting were unable to salvage = RTD at his worst. 5/10

A bit of a let-down..... Dervla Kirwan was great in her role, but Morrissey as the "fake" Doctor didn't really convince....

Story-wise, could've been good, but the cheese-factor was practically unbearable, the Cybermen continue to look more and more ridiculous under Russell T Davis' charge... And what the fukk were those "cyber-dog" things in the ratty-looking costumes which looked like woolie jumpers supposed to be....? Was I supposed to be scared...?

Did kinda like the giant robot thing at the end stomping across London, VERY Godzilla-esque , giant robots destroying cities is a very Japanese thing, had Mr Davis been watching Manga/Anime and old Godzilla movies, I rather think he had..... Shame he didn't quite have the guts to have the thing destroy a bit more of the city though....

Despite the flaws though, I found it more entertaining than last year's frankly lame and pathetic "Titanic" story....

It was allright i suppose, nothing id hurry back to see again but none of the xmas specials are actually that good really.

I was pretty disappointed.

The first 30 minutes were excellent. I never thought that David Morrisey was going to be the new Doctor, but I did actually start to believe he was. And then the twist with him was pretty good, but after that it just went downhill. So cliché, "oh yes, i've got a kid!". Just thought it ruined it. I'd have rather have seen him get killed (as it would have been quite an emotionally powerful death imo), but I guess that's not Davis' style.

I agree with all of this except it being worse than last years xmas episode! - I didn't like Morrissey at all as up to Tennant he was just a bit rubbish :( 5/10 for me.

it was all a bit meh. The giant Cyberking was ridiculous

It was kinda funny for those of us who'd seen all the "Godzilla" films though....

In a nutshell, you've just identified pretty much everything wrong with Davis' writing.... He just chucks this stuff in, shovels on cliche after cliche with a trowel and expects us to all just swallow it.... He's such a cr@p writer.... In the hands of Moffat, this potentially intriguing and interesting story would've been so much better with far more pathos and emotion, as opposed to cheese and schmaltz.... Davis is very American in his writing style, and I dont like it tbh.... He'd have a great career writing stuff like High School Musical, Friends or Ugly Betty, where his cliched style would probably fit better....

Not seen it yet, not reading the above posts, it gets repeated on Thursday, I comment later in the week.

I know they looked absolutley ridiculous.

I starting to lose interest in Doctor Who now which I never thought I'd say with it being my best programme ever, but with it constantly getting more cheesy, family freindly and 'funny' I just can't see myself loving every episode like I did with series 2 and 3.

I'm just hoping it will improve without Russel <_<

it clashed with 'emmerdale', so the soap won. i figured that if it was any good id catch the repeat.... but cyber-bores?... oh ffs get a new enemy...

yep, i agree.... its getting very predictable now and it IS losing interest. maybe tennant can see this and figured if he goes now he will be fondly remembered.

You're gonna p!ss yourself laughing at the "Cyber-dog" things, and the giant robot mate..... I'd had a few by then (I was onto the mulled wine by that point...) and it all just made me laugh tbh.....

I'm glad everyone else was disappointed too because I definitely was. I thought David Morrissey was cheesey, OTT and actually quite bad as the Next Doctor and I am so glad that we probably won't see him again. The story overall seemed a bit pointless, like a filler inbetween getting rid of Donna and finding a new companion. And the cybermen and the giant cyberman reminded me of something from Power Rangers

It's time for the Dr to get new enemies methinks.

6.5/10

Haha! I can now understand why some of my friends laugh at me for liking Doctor Who
