Spin off from the flop thread. Which songs do you think were overrated in the charts?

Mine are:

Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah

X-Factor Finalists - Hero

Leon Jackson 2nd single

All did well because of Simon Cowell manipulating the chart. With Leon, I think help from Scotland. Can't Cowell drop dead, retire?

Coldplay - Viva La Vida

Pompous arses who make depressing music.

Britney Spears - Womaniser

I think this did well due to the negative attention.

Duffy - Warwick Avenue

A dreary overplayed song.

Girls Aloud - The Promise

An awful song! If it wasnt for the X-Factor performance it would have been #8. Thank God they've picked up with "The Loving Kind"

I could go on, but thats left for yous to decide ;)

Agree with all of those. Especially that Ting Tings song - It seems having an accent helps - I should make money with limited talent singing in my Brummie twang.

Not overrated but overplayed:

Gabriella C-c-cilmi - Sweet About Me

Sam Sparro - Black and Gold

Now the real overrated:

X Factor!!! Everything about X Factor!!!

Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me (Thanks to that advert)

The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name

Basshunter - Now You're Gone

Nickelback - Rockstar (although it is from 2007 but reached it's peak in 2008)

Wiley - Wearing My Rolex

:D

I crossed out those that are not overrated for me.

I could consider Gab because it's so overplayed.

Nickelback - Overrated Track

Kid Rock - A tribute that went to No. 1! <_<

Duffy - Mercy

Beyonce - If I Were A Boy

Girls Aloud - The Promise

Nickelback - Rockstar

Kid Rock - All Summer Long

All either awful or just average :/

any song that was performed on x factor, even if it wasn't the artist performing it wouldn't have had as many sales if it wasn't performed.

But i suppose its good publicity, i hope deserving acts will play on next years show.

Alexandra Burke/Jeff Buckley/Whoever else!!?? - Hallelujah. Horrible, 'plodding' depressing, over-rated song. Makes people jump on the band wagon, especially the 'cool' "DEFINATIVE" version by Jeff Buckley...now deceased (could that have maybe helped it's popularity...hmmmmm....Princess Diana syndrome)
Sugababes - Girls

Good Choice.

Beyonce - If I Were A Boy

Katy Perry - Hot And Cold

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned 'Disturbia' :kink:

My most over raqted song of the year is without doubt...

Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing!

NICKLEBACK - Rockstar

KID ROCK - All Summer Long

ALESHA DIXON - The Boy Does Nothing

its criminal that the above sold so well!

Flo Rida - Low

Nickelback - Rockstar

Kid Rock - All Summer Long

:puke2:

I think...

Rihanna - Take A Bow (I deem this to be her second worst single after 'We Ride', truly $h!t)

Mariah Carey - Touch My Body (This only did well as it was the lead single following a huge era, a real nothingy song. Still, could have been worse, at least 'Bye Bye' didn't do well)

Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up (All of the first album and 'I Hate This Part' were better than this)

Adele - Chasing Pavements (Awful dirge, all the other singles were better)

The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved (See Adele)

The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name (Really annoying song, though their other three singles were very good)

Britney Spears - Womanizer (I kind of like this, but it's not a patch on 'Gimme More' or 'Piece Of Me', and most of the Circus album is better than this)

OneRepublic - Stop And Stare (Possibly the worst song of the year coupled with Soulja Boy, whiny, awful and lyrically dumb and stupid. 'Say (All I Need)' however was pretty good)

Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl

Kid Rock - All Summer Long

Nickelback - Rockstar

Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing

The Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up

-_-
