I seem to recall the OCC have a minimum cost for singles to be illegible. Does anyone know the exact figure or wording?

Eligibility is based on the price the album/single is sold to the retailer by the record company (the dealer price) not the price it is sold to the customer (the retail price).

Could someone post all the million sellers from the 1990?

You can get a list of all the UK million selling singles HERE

'Angels' Shipped 1.2 Million to UK Stores. About 864,000 of them were sold -

but it keeps the 2 x Platinum Disks that it got. Its Sales are now well over 900,000.

It will be interesting - at the the end of the 2000 to 2010 period, to see how many

Million Selling Singles, & Biggest 1st Week Sales Singles, actually did well because they

were simply released, & people loved them - and how many did it, (really), because

they were by people who Won TV Talent Shows - and the hysteria that so many people

feel about buying the 1st Single - as fast as possible.

It's this mentality:, 'I voted for him/her! He/She Won! I simply MUST buy his/her

Single now!'. (Irrespective of whether it's any good!).

It's quite interesting to look at the all time biggest sellers list as well to see that alot of the songs are there for a reason other than purely being great songs...Elton John and Band Aid were both charity singles, Bohemian Rhapsody is so high because of the 2nd surge of sales caused by Freddie Mercury's death, then there are the Christmas songs, the songs from movies, the songs that had controversy surrounding them building their appeal, and now of course we have the talent show songs.

I'm not disputing the classic status of alot of the huge selling songs there have been, but it is interesting to see how many songs would not be so high up if it weren't for some other factor.

it's still not sold a million though and probably won't either, at least in this decade.

Its still selling over 1,000 copies per week (2.2k in the Xmas week), so it'll pass it in the next year I think.

My gosh - there are some truly terrible songs on there! How the hell half of them managed to sell over 1,000 let alone a million beggars belief!

Also tracks released ages ago

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love

Robbie Williams - Angels

She's been very lucky to get a perfect storm of sales with this release:

We have a creditable X-Factor winner

We have a song considered to be an all-time classic, and far better than the three previous winners were given

We have a chart "battle" which generated intense hype and publicity all week

We have four strong shopping days after hitting number 1 until Christmas ensuring great on-running sales

We have the strongest singles market for 4-5 years thanks to the continuing establishment of legal downloading

We have the closure of Zavvi's and Woolworth's with big discounts - in some of the Woolies stores that have already closed the single was being hawked off for 10p on the final day

==========

On the digital sales front, the highest seller as of Music Week on 15th December was:

"Lewis’s Bleeding Love is the only track to sell more than 500,000 downloads, with a current tally of 527,360"

Zavvi is not closing and is still trading, it is in administration, bit of a difference ;)

I have to agree it's probably the best song a winner has been given, and all the added interest in the other versions helped it along too. If only Bleeding Love was first that could have been huge.

No, i think none of those will have million selling singles in 2009. None of them are singles acts anyway

Don't give me the toss, U2 have 38 top ten hits, Green Day have lot of to ten hits, JLS are X Factor 5 runner-up who have got the record deal, The Script have one top two hits and Blackout Crew have yet to make a charts breakhough.

LOL, as if any of those will be million sellers! How have any of them showed potential to sell a million singles?! U2 and Green Day could sell a million albums, but not singles.

Do you get anything special if your single sells 1M?

A pat on the back and a cup of tea ^_^

or in other words, no

Hmmm if the rumours of him going into the CBB house are true I wonder how far Coolio can go up in the list with Gangsta's Paradise? :o I think Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters could pass a million in the not too distant future as People download it every halloween and so could Take That - Back For Good as well!
Oh and btw if Alexandra does 100K this week she'll be in the top 100 of all time :P
So Spice Girls have 2 million sellers, which is their next closet to selling a million not that it ever will but just asking!
