Posted January 4, 200916 yr Saturdays: 'We want to crack America' Sunday, January 4 2009, 12:03 GMT By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter The Saturdays have vowed to follow in the footsteps of the Spice Girls by cracking America. Frankie Sandford told the Daily Star Sunday that Stateside success will be the group's ultimate aim as they make plans for the future. "No British girl group has made it in America since the Spice Girls but we are hoping to," she explained. "We worked with Rihanna's producers to give us more of an American sound." Meanwhile, Mollie King claimed that Girls Aloud should reconsider their decision to reject offers from US labels. "I think it's a bit weird that Nadine [Coyle] said they don't want to try and conquer America," she admitted. "I guess I can understand them not wanting to start at the bottom again but maybe we should all do it together." The girlband's new single 'Issues' will be released tomorrow.
January 4, 200916 yr I'm sorry, I'm a fan and everything, but James said it right on MSN and that's they need to concentrate on the UK first!

January 4, 200916 yr Author I do agree actually, they definatly need to wait a few more years and to build up a fanbase in the UK first. It would definatly be better if the Sugababes or Girls Aloud tried it first ^I would have said all this in my original post, but i didnt have time
January 4, 200916 yr I don't know why you are against the idea. The Spice Girls didn't wait at all to release in America. They got stuck in there straight away while they had momentum and drive and ambition and good material. If The Saturdays have been getting good record company feedback from the US on their album I don't see why they should not try it for a few months and see if things are building or not. Also if they did have a hit in the US it would give them a something unique among UK girl bands at the moment and it could give them a more international sucessful image.
January 4, 200916 yr Where does it say we're against the idea? We're just saying, they need a proper UK fanbase before they start America really!
January 5, 200916 yr It is quite clear in the posts before mind that people do not think working on the American market would not be a good idea at this time (ie. they are against the idea). I then gave my opinion, that if they have good material cracking American could happen now. It did not take the Spice Girls months upon months of promo for Wannabe to become a US hit. Hopefully that makes my post clearer and you no longer feel unsure . Either way it is just a fans opinion so it cannot be wrong. There is definately a strong case for concentrating on the UK but if things started happening in the US (initially behind the scenes) it would be a pity to let the chance go to waste. January 5, 200916 yr I odnt blame them for wanting to crack america but i think they should work on Uk success and europe for a while yet,the album hanst done brilliant in the uk even though i think it has sold near 100,000 now but i think they need to be well established in the uk as in in having at least a platnum selling album and possibly a number 1 single or a huge selling non number 1 if they get that success it would seem more reasonable they should try success elsewhere but been honest i cant see america working for them
January 5, 200916 yr I'm not sure it would work so well, sadly...the girl groups have declined in popularity here in America for the most part. :( Edited January 5, 200916 yr by On Your Shore
January 5, 200916 yr They could give it a try but the American Music scene isn't interested in pop bands like the Saturdays. I guess "Work" would be a hit but most of the album is dance/pop music
January 5, 200916 yr Author Also do remember that The Spice Girls opened with huge sales, and i mean huge out of this world sales whilst the Sats, who's album has sold reasonably well but not enough IMO at least to think about America yet. Who knows maybe they would be huge in the US, however i think they should wait another album or so yet.
January 5, 200916 yr Oh I would love for The Saturdays to break America just to shut all the haters up on Buzzjack
January 5, 200916 yr Please get a grip *Chasing Lights* We're NOT Haters  We're just being Realistic! I personally don't think they are ready yet.

I was not actually referring to anyone in this thread and have not bothered to read any replies in it - I was talking about the endless slating of the band in many many threads on BJ. And actually I don't need to get a grip at all thank you! -_- Edited January 5, 200916 yr by Jonjo No need for swearing when I didn't even swear... Thanks :)
January 5, 200916 yr I'm actually re-thinking this. A lot of Blogs are going on about how much they love the Saturdays and many are American. Maybe they could get quite a big fan base in the U.S.

So I apologise for my rant -_- but please make it clear somehow, who you are aiming it at :)
January 5, 200916 yr Reason for edit: No need for swearing when I didn't even swear... Thanks :) I thought the whole reason of having a swear filter in place was so that posts would not get edited?!
