Posted January 8, 200916 yr I was just searching the BPI website and looked at all Sugababes certifications and Change (the album) has been certified twice for platinum. The first time was on the 14th December 2007 and the second was on the 7th March 2008 I was just wondering why this has occurred and that maybe the second one was for double platinum or not?
January 8, 200916 yr It probably means its shipped 600,000 copies. Its sold just over 500,000 C+S was certified Gold in its first week of release, yet still hasn't sold the 100,000 that make it that mark
January 8, 200916 yr Author It probably means its shipped 600,000 copies. Its sold just over 500,000 C+S was certified Gold in its first week of release, yet still hasn't sold the 100,000 that make it that mark I didn't say it had been certified double platinum, i said it had been certified platinum on two occasions (sorry if i didn't make that clear), and i didn't think shipped counts towards certification, just copies that had been sold in the shops or downloaded.
January 8, 200916 yr No, certifications are based on amount shipped not sold. I'm guessing this means its shipped 600,000 but I don't know.
January 8, 200916 yr Author k thanks, but if it had shipped 600000 copies it would have been certified 2x Platinum, not Platinum again. I'm just so confused.
January 8, 200916 yr the 3 triple plat albums isn't technically true, as 3 only sold 800k+ not the 900k needed, but it shipped 900k. i think it may just be an error on their behalf.
January 8, 200916 yr Change hit the top spot. C&S bombed Hitting the top spot doesn't mean it's a success. That's only half the battle. The other half is maintaining that. You could have a number four album and have a lot of success with the project. On the other hand, your album could go to number one and fall right off within that month. But I'm glad it was a success. Some of the cats on DS were saying that project flopped, too.
January 8, 200916 yr Change didn't flop. When you consider that it had only three singles (Taller had four), had no re-release (Taller had one) and had none of the 'new member' buzz which helped re-ignite Taller, as well as the decline in album sales generally, the come-down in sales was only 20% or something minor. 500k is still decent, plus the album was supported by a sold-out apollo tour which got rave critical and fan reviews whilst the lead single from the album became the most successful of their career and the follow-up also dented their top 10 sales-wise. [/application to work for their PR company]

[/application to work for their PR company] lol, you should manage them jark! I noticed this months ago myself, and i've seen it occasionally for other artists too. As said, if it was certified 2xplatinum, the certification would say that and it doesn't. Also, Change was far too far off at that point for it to have shipped enough for 2x certification. It is either a duplicate application in error, or perhaps the record company reapplied as there was some error in the original certification (no all data is displayed on the website version i believe), so the later one is simply the correction. What are Change's sales now? Last official i think i saw was 495k but wiki (reliable as always ) lists 502k. Its a very exact figure it lists and sounds plausible given its been a couple of months more and Change has troubled the top200 again. Anyone know? Edited January 9, 200916 yr by spicefunk
January 10, 200916 yr the 3 triple plat albums isn't technically true, as 3 only sold 800k+ not the 900k needed, but it shipped 900k. i think it may just be an error on their behalf. Record company wont care becuase the music chains bought them, even if the public didnt. So they still made the money from tha extra 100,000 out there
January 10, 200916 yr Maybe it was: Platinum: 14th December 2007 - Shipped Platinum: 7th March 2008 - Sold
January 10, 200916 yr No no, by March it had passed 400k in sales. It's obviously shipped double-platinum which means 100k or so are still in stores.

No, as i said above it would say 2x platinum then. They would never have managed to ship 200k at this point when the album wasn't even top40 at the time. I think my explanation is more plausible (of course as its mine ) Also TIMW and 3 aren't certified 3x platinum (although they may be eligible by now). Island would need to apply for this (and the shipment data would then be audited before the award). AWDF was certified 3x platinum around the time of overloaded's release- a bit of good PR for the album! NB - There are loads of albums around which have sold far more than their certification and quite a few who've shipped a lot more than they've sold (usually a very hyped new release which dies on its ass in release week) Edited January 10, 200916 yr by spicefunk
