I just went through practically like all of the 21st century on Chart Stats and I can safely say that I like roughly six of them (though that is considering there are hardly any per year :/). I'm waiting on one person's decision and then I'll either confirm Bjork or switch.

 

=/ Well I guess the next one will most likely be a lot less restrictive. Yayyy? I get that this is just supposed to be a bit of fun, but it's not really fun sifting through hundreds of chart records trying to find a song you think is decent. And at this point there are going to be a couple of entries from other countries that I like more than my own lawlz and that's not for lack of trying. Not a good thing imo.

 

And I know it's optional and whatnot, but I'm one of the few left who have been doing this since the very first BJSC. I sorta care about it and like to participate? The fact that the decision thread was open for 3 of the total 24 hours promised is ridiculous. Popular demand? It only closed because a select few people were overly excited. =/ A bunch of people didn't get any say in the matter, people who wanted spin-offs. It just felt completely out of the blue and rushed.

 

And now we have people arguing over which songs they get to send and people feeling guilty for sending certain songs. That's ridiculous imo, and it's all because a select few people who were vehemently for the idea of a UK #10 spin-off (wtf at that number anyway) had one song in mind when supporting it and didn't get to it fast enough. =/ It just feels so cutthroat as opposed to nearly every other option on the list.

 

What's done is done, that's just my opinion. I just wanted to get that all out so maybe people could understand why I've been pissy about the whole matter; I'm not just being obnoxious / angry for the sake of being angry (as most people seem to think...).

Could I reserve David Bowie, Shania Twain and Aretha Franklin? Thanks.

I've updated the first post. I'm sorry to those of you who dont like the theme :( I wasnt i control of the polls :P But tbh whilst i feel for those of you outside the UK i still dont think its such an impossible task.. besides, foreign language will be the next spinoff in may (?) anyway, and if this had been foreign that would have been UK #10s, so it's all relative...

 

The way i see it, the point of a spinoff is to divulge it away from normal BJSC, and therefore something like this is a great spinoff theme imo, if you look there are hundreds of great songs that stumbled at #10... so again, my apologies

Ben, Phil, Tom, Peter and whoever else is disappointed by the way that this was ran...I'm extremely sorry about the way that this was handled...on both votes, the #10's was the most popular, not just by votes but by vocal opinion. The foreign language contest will be run next time, it just seemed that this was the one that most people wanted first...either way, it would have been run next if the foreign contest had been first so there would still be people unhappy

 

I apologise for the actual running of the threads, I clearly got carried away by other people and in hindsight should have left it open for the 24 hours giving more people time to vote, but I cannot apologise for the choice of theme, as I was only 1 of 16 people who voted for it, and I happen to love the theme anyway and it was clearly an overwhelmingly popular choice, even if there are a handful of people that don't like it...please trust that the foreign one will be next, and just as many if not more people will be equally as unhappy about that choice of theme

 

I'm aware that beginning to sound like a broken record now, but this is how I see it...one theme now, the other slightly later

yes, I'm awaiting the backlash for that one too, there will be many more people who don't want that one than want this one I would have thought...but there we go, like I said 'you can't please all of the people all of the time' and I refuse to carry on trying to be honest so somebody else can organise the next one, I want absolutely no part in organising it...at least this one was chosen by some consensus as opposed to it being left to one person to choose the theme :(

i really hope that isn't the next theme. the point of BJSC to me is to send something you love, and tbh i don't think that spin offs are inclusive with that. I'm quite lucky, because i dearly love Too Lost In You, but i am up a creak without a canoe for foreign songs. yes, many poeple do listen and love them. There are also many who don't and it's going to take a lot more research than it took for this contest or indeed a normal contest. Seeing as people seem so keen to squeeze them into every gap possible it's going to be highly frustrating and numbers will drop.

fair point, I actually agree with you in hindsight but yesterday it seemed like a good idea as others were complaining that 6 weeks was a long time without a BJSC, and I thought that a spin-off would be a good idea...I didn't expect it to take off in quite the way that it did

it was supposed to be a vote to decide the first spin-off, but the winning theme didn't have to necessarily have to used there and then, but Trashlexis gave his approval via a couple of posts in other threads, firstly when he said that 'a spin-off could EASILY be fit into the next three weeks' and then when he reserved the Goldfrapp song as his entry before the confirmation thread popped up...had he been utterly against the idea, he definitely would have said so and the winning idea could have been postponed until another month

6 weeks is a long gap so i can understand why we are having a spin off now.

 

I do remember reading that comment last night,

 

Everyone gets carried away, don't worry about. Not everything will please everyone, that's just the way life is.

 

 

I think the main criticism seems to be lack of time. But what's done is done and you certainly cannot take the brunt of the blame for this.
