I think part of the reason Daniel Merriweather even went top 10 was because it was almost impossible to find illegally. No torrents had it and hype machine only had a remix but now it's appeared in the top 40 it's available on loads of torrents.

I dunno. Think of all those people who weren't able to download the song before it's release so the only other option is to actually buy it. If it had been readily available illegally on blogs and torrents for a while I don't think it would've done as well.

I don't agree. People who usually download songs illegally can wait until it appears on the net (they had to wait max 1-2 days after the release of the actual single).

 

The other thing: I'm sure downloaders are clever enough to find the right source to find new music.
