February 8, 200916 yr I do not understand how it can be the best film overall, but not the best British film? It's excellent anyways.
February 8, 200916 yr Author I do not understand how it can be the best film overall, but not the best British film? It's excellent anyways. I know, I was thinking that as well
February 9, 200916 yr Amazing for Slumdog Millionaire  Also totally agree on the Benjamin Button wins. The make up/effects are INCREDIBLE. Edited February 9, 200916 yr by Joao.
February 9, 200916 yr I do not understand how it can be the best film overall, but not the best British film? It's excellent anyways. "Best Film" has the more prestige to it I suppose..... I tell you what confuses me as tbh, Man On Wire winning Best Brit Film, but Hunger director Steven McQueen winning The Carl Foreman Best British Director award.... HUH????? How the fukk does that happen then....? Hunger is by far the best film out of that lot in Best Brit film, IF you take "Slumdog.." out of the equation..... I pretty much agree with most of the winners, Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslett are very worthy winners (such a shame they couldn't share out the award for Best Actor to Rourke and Penn though, both performances are absolutely astounding and equally matched IMO).... But pretty disappointed that Baader Meinhoff or Gomorrah wasn't picked for Best Foreign Language film..... Heath Ledger was an obvious winner, but I dunno, Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Doubt" is a mightily impressive piece of acting, particularly considering who he's acting opposite (Meryl Streep), so I'm in two minds tbh.... I really dunno about Penelope Cruz though..... I've never really been all that convinced by her... But, I haven't seen "Vicky, Christina, Barcelona" yet, so maybe she'll pull a few surprises.....
February 9, 200916 yr In general I was pleased with the results which is mightily surprising. I'd have given Sean Penn the best male (although Mickey Rourke is ace in the wrestler and we'd have been denied that great acceptance) and Milk the best film. Dunno about Ledger - I'm always sceptical of posthumous awards, but then I haven't seen The Dark Knight so I can't really comments. Otherwise all fairly representative.

I'm skeptical too but Ledger earned this one. PSH was his only competition. I hate dismissing comedic performances, but Pitt and Gleesan, while both very good, didn't earn the award. Downey Jr I can't comment on (haven't seen Tropic Thunder), but I suspect the same. Edited February 9, 200916 yr by Consie
