And, I'm sorry, but someone who chooses to sit on their arse all day and not contribute a DAMN THING to society has absolutey no business whatsoever criticising noble professionals who have worked bloody hard to get where they are, just what the hell are YOU doing to contribute to society, because I know full well what teachers are contributing... They have to study for three years to get a degree and then another year's teacher training, an apprenticeship basically, with hardly any pay, you certainly dont join the teaching profession to become rich or to have an easy life.... A friend of mine is going through it now, and the day sure as hell does not end for her at 3.30, the paperwork she has to fill in is absolutely ghastly.... She's spending more time doing that sh!t than actually teaching the kids, often taking the paperwork home with her... And, er, who do you think it is that does all the marking for class exercises, exams, etc...? The fukkin' Marking Fairies.....? She teaches the kids for about five or six hours and then spends another three doing the paperwork.... You simply do NOT see what goes on 'behind the scenes'....

If he had control of himself, the ability to pull himself out of it, then he did not have CLINICAL depression. I'm sure he did have circumstantial depression (I'm assuming no-one would be so twisted as to lie about something like that), that he felt very low at one time, but clinical depression is when your mind is totally paralysed and you physically can't pull yourself out of it, usually not without severe medical help, if at all.

Why not just rename it the "Mushy and Grimley" forum as it seems only their opinions count here? I'll stick to music. Once again it's really big and mature to use so many veiled swear words isn't it? If you backed up your views with facts, evidence or whatever then no one would have any problem with that but you come in here making glib statements usually to wind people up and never back them with any facts or evidence

My sister if you include teaching, paperwork, marking, planning, after school stuff and so on typically spends not far off 70 hrs a week doing work, yes SEVENTY out of which about half that is actually teaching so given the 13 weeks a year physically not at school and the fact that the typical worker works a 35 hr week and gets 6 weeks off a year given the number of hours a teacher does in a week the REAL amount of time off over the course of a year is no different to the typical worker in an office or factory or shop !

My views are on the complete opposite end of the scale to Scott and Rob on a lot of things so why am I not personally attacked by them ? ask yourself that, a lot of my opinions particularly on Maggie, immigration, political correctness etc are the polar opposite of Scott but because without wishing to sound arrogant I present my case well whereas Chris just spouts glib 1 liners without anything to back them up with so it is right that he is called to account for his posts

You have NO IDEA of the amount of paperwork involved, the programme planning for classes, the overall admin stuff that teachers have to do, I've seen the sh!t my friend has to do, and frankly, your brain would just explode if you had to do it.... You're clueless, utterly clueless. You're like the audience at a play or musical, you only see the production, you dont see what goes on to make that production possible, so you just assume that all the actors do is turn up for a couple of hours and say their lines.... Bollocks..... Teaching is a similar discipline, there is ALL sorts of behind the scenes stuff that goes on, my friend often takes the paperwork and marking home with her because she has no time to do it at school..... The kids might be off school, but the teachers sure aint, they have to go in to plan lessons and attend appraisals, deal with OFSTEAD people, etc.....

 

But go on, complain to Admin, I dont give a toss frankly... tbh, your idiotic, unfounded ramblings would test the patience of a Saint frankly, Admin will probably end up feeling sorry for us for having to suffer you, the same way we had to suffer ElPres.... :rolleyes:

Do you seriously think teachers spend the whole of the school holidays with their feet up? Don't you think they might spend some of that time preparing lessons and marking?

 

Plus, of course, they don't really get any discretionary holiday. If I want a day off or a week off I can have it when I like - subject to project deadlines. A teacher can't do that. They also have no choice but to go on holiday at peak times when prices are higher.

exactly..... the 'big guns' in here often dont agree with eachother, ive argued the toss with russt, tip, craig, scott etc but it AINT PERSONAL. we debate points of view that we hold . ill argue with anyone if i dont agree with their point of view.

it is NOT a fact that teachers get 13 weeks holiday! this sort of post is exactly WHY you get derided, teacher put in very long hours, plus they ARE in school prepareing, catching up, updating new techniques etc in the holiday periods... i know because i WORK in schools!

you should be able to support an opinion by telling us how you reached said point of view. the trite comments chris makes are not backed up with reasons why he hold that point of view.

 

most here hold totally differing points of view, but like craig says, he can support his views. grimly and 1 dont usually agree with craig on politics, but i fully respect his viewpoint as he DOES support it with reasoned thought. so we all have differing perspectives on situations, but the only ones that we respect are the ones supported by reason.

 

chris gets no respect for his '13 weeks holiday for teachers' type posts because he clearly overlooks exactly what teachers do and the hours they put in. its not hard to find out the facts of teaching jobs, chris's posts come across as slogans made to wind up.
