Posted February 19, 200916 yr Here we go on another Friday night with the weekly look at what`s been hot or not, over the last 5 days. Coming up the top films, dvds, tv, albums, the flashback, and back later for the most up to date singles charts in Britain. Here come`s the top films: Compiled by Screen International for UK Box Office w/k ending 25th Feb 2009 01 NE BOLT 02 03 SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE 03 02 HE`S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU 04 01 CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON 05 NE HOTEL FOR DOGS 06 NE FRIDAY THE 13TH 07 NE NOTORIOUS 08 NE PINK PANTHER 2 09 NE VICKY CHRISTINA BARCELONA 10 06 MY BLOODY VALENTINE An amazing selection of new films there. Unfortunately a couple of crappy re-makes can be ignored. Steve Martin is no Peter Sellars, like the first film showed! However PINK PANTHER 2 slides in with a revenue of £821,726. NOTORIOUS got £1,119,587. FRIDAY THE 13TH got £1,198,653. HOTEL FOR DOGS £1,500,298, and the number was BOLT with £5,457,438. VICKY CHRISTINA BARCELONA was around last week, but this week increased it`s total considerably. Morrisey certainly will not, clever as he is! ;) Although, when we compiled the album chart on Wednesday Afternoon, it was that close! Brits or no Brits! ;) Duffy back in the top 3 next week, and highest entry will be Prodigy, yeah? Time for the flashback to...February 1993: The Albums, back then 01 01 THE BODYGUARD - OST 02 12 AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE - R.E.M. 03 NE WORDS OF LOVE-22 CLASSIC HITS - BUDDY HOLLY 04 09 THE AWARDS 93 - VARIOUS 05 10 HITS 93 - VARIOUS 06 NE DURAN DURAN - DURAN DURAN 07 NE WALTHAMSTOW - EAST 17 08 14 DIVA - ANNIE LENNOX 09 15 TAKE THAT AND PARTY - TAKE THAT 10 02 PURE CULT-FOR ROCKERS, RAVERS, LOVERS, SINNERS - THE CULT 11 03 CONSCIENCE - THE BELOVED 12 07 3 YEARS FIVE MONTHS AND 2 DAYS IN THE LIFE - ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT 13 08 FUNKY DIVAS - EN VOGUE 14 17 SO CLOSE - DINA CARROLL 15 13 CONNECTED - STEREO MCs 16 16 GORECKI: SYMPHONY NO. 3 - DAWN UPSHAW, LONDON SINFONIETTA, DAVID ZINMAN 17 RE STARS - SIMPLY RED 18 05 WANDERING SPIRIT - MICK JAGGER 19 NE BEST OF VOL. 2 - VAN MORRISON 20 23 LOVE MAKES NO SENSE - ALEXANDER O`NEAL WHITNEY HOUSTON ruling the movie world, and album world in `93. The album totalled 8 weeks at the top of the chart, beating off GENESIS, CULT, R.E.M, but not LENNY KRAVITZ in the middle of March! BUDDY HOLLY remembered (just like every February). DURAN DURAN reminding us that in February 1981, TONY BLACKBURN introduced them as DURRAN DURRAN! EAST 17 scoring a top 3 album. Up and down for ANNIE LENNOX. Still quite early for the one and only TAKE THAT, and no signs of the quitting of one ROBBIE WILLIAMS! Whatever happened to ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT? DINA CARROLL spent most of the time up and down the album chart in 93 like ANNIE LENNOX too. Classical albums were bashing it out, under the likes of GORECKI: SYMPHONY No. 3. SIMPLY RED were on their 3rd year of STARS. MICK JAGGER smashed down with a bang. VAN MORRISON (look out for the new one, next week) was flushed with continued success. ALEXANDER O`NEAL was selling minor, and unfortunately MICHAEL JACKSON`s "DANGEROUS" was re-climbing to 21! :teresa: The Singles in 1993: 01 01 WHY CAN`T I WAKE UP WITH YOU - TAKE THAT 02 02 NO LIMIT - 2UNLIMITED 03 03 LOVE SONG FOR A VAMPIRE/LITTLE BIRD - ANNIE LENNOX 04 04 I`M EVERY WOMAN - WHITNEY HOUSTON 05 NE I FEEL YOU - DEPECHE MODE 06 NE GIVE IN TO ME - MICHAEL JACKSON 07 07 DEEP - EAST 17 08 05 I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU - WHITNEY HOUSTON 09 13 ARE YOU GONNA GO MY WAY - LENNY KRAVITZ 10 06 THE LOVE I LOST - WESTEND AND SYBIL 11 08 STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN - ROLF HARRIS 12 09 ORDINARY WORLD - DURAN DURAN 13 24 OH CAROLINA - SHAGGY 14 20 RUBY TUESDAY - ROD STEWART 15 22 SIDEWINDER SLEEPS TONIGHT - R.E.M. 16 16 HOW CAN I LOVE YOU MORE - M. TAKE THAT having 2 weeks a-top that chart. You either loved or loathed 2UNLIMITED! Either way we did get a bit tired of the electro-pop thing by the end of 1993. Though saying that I utterly loathed this "re-hashed reggae type thing", with SHAGGY et al! The BODYGUARD kept 2 singles on the go for the HOUSTON. ROLF HARRIS really surprised us with the LED ZEPPELIN take, and got to number 8. Remember the FAR CORPORATION`s version in 1985? SYBIL covered the 1974 HAROLD MELVIN hit. DEPECHE MODE just nudged the top 5...a difficult feat for them since day one in 1981. ROD STEWART covered the ROLLING STONES/MELANIE hit...now if you ever hated RUBY TUESDAY, then you`d hate it even more if you heard TINA CHARLES sing it! She managed to warble her way through singing "Goodbye Ruby Tuesdee", which drove me nuts in 1971! Enough said about SHAGGY. RIGHT SAID FRED were doing the Comic Relief song...stalling at number 7. TASMIN ARCHER, BOYS II MEN, and CHARLES EDDY did well in Autumn 1992, but could not get a sizeable follow up hit between them. SNAP were not happy, as Exterminate did not happen to the WHITNEY HOUSTON chart-topper! STING, and INXS were all over Independant Radio, thus showing higher than the early days of MILWARD BROWN`s Radio One chart. ST ETIENNE were doing ok then. A lot of hardly ever heard songs today in 2009 from 1992...coming from the likes of BIZZARE INC, USURA, PETER POLYCARPOU (remember him off the telly)? OUI 3 covered a 60s classic by BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD. WENDY JAMES solo from TRANSVISION VAMP. PANTERA, LIVING COLOUR, NEW MODEL ARMY all well followed are well forgotten by radio today. Re-issues by ULTRAVOX, and MADNESS reminded us that the 80s were really quite good, and again so were HOTHOUSE FLOWERS but apart from "Don`t Go", they just dried up. Am I the only one struggling to remember SHAKESPEAR`s SISTER and "MY 16TH APOLOGY?" The oldies supplied by MRIB for Independant Radio in Feb 1993. Here are the pre-order lists for this week in 2009: The Singles 01 UP ALL NIGHT - TAKE THAT 2nd Mar 02 JUST CAN`T GET ENOUGH - SATURDAYS 2nd Mar 03 LOVE STORY - TAYLOR SWIFT 2nd Mar 04 FALLIN`DOWN - OASIS 9th Mar 05 LET IT GO - WILL YOUNG 2nd Mar 06 DEAD AND GONE - T.I. 07 MY LIFE WOULD SUCK - KELLY CLARKSON 2nd Mar 08 ISLANDS IN THE STREAM - COMIC RELIEF 9th Mar 09 LOVE ETC - PET SHOP BOYS 16th Mar 10 REVELRY - KINGS OF LEON 2nd Mar DEPECHE MODE meets COMIC RELIEF...won`t Sunday 8th March be exciting! Hang around for the up to the minute singles....coming soon
February 20, 200916 yr Thanks Dave, great retro, about the time I started being seriously into music. The Beloved - Sweet Harmony is in my top 10 best ever

NOTE: These are not Official Charts. They are based on Chart Show tv, but with added sales to make them the most up to date charts at this point in time.
February 20, 200916 yr Thanks Dave. Knew KOL would not make number 1. Will it get a new peak though? Time will tell :)
February 20, 200916 yr Thanks Dave. Knew KOL would not make number 1. Will it get a new peak though? Time will tell :) The only new peak it could get is #1 surely?
February 20, 200916 yr The only new peak it could get is #1 surely? I thought it got to 4, but then I realised that was Bullboard  Anyway, :o but :w00t: that Spaceman is still top 40!

February 20, 200916 yr Cheers Dave excellent stuff. :) I hope the Prodigy can hold onto No3 but fear Use Somebody will push them down a place.
February 20, 200916 yr Shame! Looks like KOL won't do it afterall! Wll be interesting come Sunday though to see.
February 20, 200916 yr Thanks Dave! 5.89m for a BBC London news programme? I assume it was from the day the snow fell - everyone at home stuck in front of the TV, same with those other news programmes countrywide. But almost 6m for a news programme in one area is a bit surprising. 1993 was a strange year and reflected in those charts, some good songs (Ordinary World) but some tripe - including the Take That song. I have the 1981 gaffe by Tony Blackburn on tape, Durran Durran indeed! Up to date, I wonder how much U2 have been held back by the lack of outlets for physical product? It has certainly underperformed (and underwhelmed, it's not a very good song) and I wonder just how many copies are actually out there for people to get and can everyone who wants to buy a copy get to a record store that still sells singles? As you indicated, the albums chart will look very different by the weekend, the Brits effect began to kick in yesterday and should last until the weekend. With downloads, the singles chart has probably peaked as far as the Brits effect goes and sales from tomorrow (Saturday) may see some of these songs sliding back down the chart, albeit still higher than they were last Sunday.
February 21, 200916 yr Circus really doesn't deserve to do this bad, it's much better than Womanizer and I thought it would peak Top 3. :(
February 21, 200916 yr Author Circus really doesn't deserve to do this bad, it's much better than Womanizer and I thought it would peak Top 3. :( Well Aidan, like it`s been said had Circus not been available to download for the previous 11 weeks anyway, it would have almost certainly have been a top 10 hit, as in the physical top 5! One day the companies might get it right, and release those physicals at the same time as those ever growing downloads!
February 21, 200916 yr Well Aidan, like it`s been said had Circus not been available to download for the previous 11 weeks anyway, it would have almost certainly have been a top 10 hit, as in the physical top 5! One day the companies might get it right, and release those physicals at the same time as those ever growing downloads! plus Circus has sold over 100,000 copies, one of the biggest selling non top 10 hits of recent years and Britney's biggest selling non top 10 hit. The record label made a mess of this release, had they timed it right it could have been top 5 quite easily. By the time it falls out of the top 75 it should have sold close to 150,000 copies - quite an achievement. Edited February 21, 200916 yr by Robbie
