'Be Here Now' Oasis

and certainly long term didn't live up to its hype....

I was about to say that one - possibly THE most hyped album ever!

Coldplay's VLV wasn't that hyped actually - X&Y was though <_>

Be Here Now is the most hyped album of the last 15 years without question

I even have a little slip inside mine from HMV that says "the owner of this CD bought the brand new Oasis album Be Here Now on the day of release" (or words to that effect) LOL

LOL how pointless.

I think "X" by Kylie Minogue was quite hyped up too, but most of the big ones have been said already. ("Blackout", Coldplay albums in general, "Chinese Democracy", "Spirit" etc.)

I think you're right with the Kylie one even though I don't like saying it because I like her. I don't know how you can say 'Coldplay albums in general' though. :(

Me neither - Parachutes was not hyped at all before release, AROBTTH was a bit, but not hugely, X&Y was, and VLV was quite quietly promoted upto alot of other albums.

Oasis be here now... it is the fastest selling album in britain ever,, records stores opened at midnight to cope with the demand...

people think this album was i let down i personally dont think so ...very underrated great album :)

I was massively let down by it, but we have discussed this many times on CC and here, so we will have to agree to differ, Jez

People are going to be incredibly surprised by Kelly Clarksons upcoming effort... its REALLY good.
  Maybe a little ... but seriously ... Blackout in particular was awful! In fact ... lets make no bones about it ... it was sh*te of the highest order. Circus has three fair-to-middlin songs the rest is filler (and not even quality Polyfilla ... more the budget 'own brand' B&Q range!)

How wrong! :o I so disagree. Blackout was a stunning album. A gritty, dirty, thumping, balls out electro album that was uniformly top notch. No songs were filler. It's one of the best pop albums of the 21st century imo. Lyrically it's also Britney's best, especially on tracks like Break the Ice (Looks like we're alone now, ain't gotta be scared we're grown now, I'mma hit defrost on you, let's get it blazin). That whole song was rather killer. Only dud in my mind was Heaven on Earth.

Then she went and released Circus which was god awful, let's be honest. :/ Unusual You, Quicksand, and Amnesia are outstanding, but two of those weren't even officially on the album.

Blackout even got high praise from indie critics from sites like Pitchfork and cokemachineglow (the official review was poor, but it's been referenced by many other critics from the site as a top notch pop album). None of her albums have even got close to achieving that.

:( I hope Britney goes back to Blackout like songs on her next release.

Arctic Monkeys' first album was probably the most-hyped I've ever seen an album. It literally had everyone in my 6th form talking, it seemed like everyone popped out at lunch to buy it, and it was all over the media. Their second didn't match it, but was pretty hyped too.

These are just hyped albums, it doesn't mean they have to be bad. I didn't think there was anything wrong with "X". I think Coldplay albums are quite hyped up, anything that sells so much in a short period of time must have had some hype. I've actually warmed a little to Coldplay recently. -_-

This is where I realise I have amateur ears for music. I found "Blackout" and "Circus" to be very similar to each other, I didn't notice much change between them.

i didnt think there was alot of hype about Kylie's X at all to be honest

Yes there was.

Britney - Circus. Hyped to absoulute death and made out to the most brilliant album of the year. Turned out to be filled with the most average tracks i've ever heard. And Womanizer, wow, hoe repetitive did that get after a month.

Was 'Circus' REALLY as hyped up as people on here are suggesting? Or is it just another chance for the people who didn't like the album (or Britney) just to hate on it? In the US I understand, coz they were hyping it to the MAX there, but in the UK I couldn't really see that much hype apart from it being a new Britney album  - There's a difference between the Real World hype and Buzzjack hype (Yes us Britney "loons" were probably hyping it up)

Anyway's whether it was or not, I really like 'Circus' (I STILL like it), But I did think it was stupid how the best track's were Bonus Tracks

I would definately say Arctic Monkey's debut (Although I really like this album too).

LOL what's with people posting all these random albums and slapping a 'HYPE' tag on them? Britney Spear's The Circus had ZERO hype compared to a properly hyped release.

Case in point: Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusions double-album release in 1991. You can see videos on YouTube of late-night openings and queues around the block for that release. I don't recall any of that happening for Miss Spears! Granted, Chinese Democracy didn't have it either, but they made up for that over the endless rock media coverage for 13 years prior to release!

I think Metallica's Death Magnetic was pretty hyped this year though. How many albums earn a band their own Culture Show Special? And from a proper metal band as well! :o

Circus really wasn't that hyped. Nowhere near as much as Blackout was. Blackout sort of came from nowhere really, and it was all a bit sudden and rushed but that added to the hype. The whole shambolic performance at the VMAs added to the hype even more. People were talking about it all over the internet and the newspapers, much more so than Circus was imo.
