So, Oscars tonight! Any predictions on the winners?

Slumdog should win a few, I think either Slumdog or Benjamin Button for Best Picture. Heath Ledger will win best supporting actor...

I'm expecting the results to be pretty much exactly like the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs.

Slumdog Millionaire will be the big winner... unless the studio has pushed Benjamin Button to win the Best Picture award. Both are good films, but i'm expecting Slumdog Millionaire to come out winner, with Boyle as best Director. Mickey Rourke to win Best Actor too.

Milk should win Best Picture, but I'd be glad to see Slumdog win.

I really have my fingers crossed that Sean Penn wins Best Actor (tis gay a la Brokeback Mountain). :( He won't (Mickey Rourke will), but I can hope?

You can hope. I think Milk is the only film that stands a (very small) chance against Slumdog. After Brokeback got snubbed for that pile of $h!t Crash, the Academy may have felt obliged to vote for Milk this year.

Having said that, I agree that Slumdog will almost certainly win and deserves to.

I saw Benjamin Button this week and while it's a great little film, it doesn't compare to Slumdog, that MUST win!

Slumdog leading the pack so far ^_^

So 'Slumdog Millionaire' sweeps the board again :o Taking home 7 of their award's
Really impressed this year... the best ceremony I've seen in many years... very entertaining and I have absolutely ZERO qualms with any of the winners. Sean Penn and Kate Winslet were both sensational. I liked the format of bringing out previous winners. Let's be honest, we're all a bit sentimental on Oscar night and we love seeing clips from past shows. This expanded on that, bringing past winners to stage to shrewdly describe the performances (who can tell by a 10 second clip?). Great speeches this year, too... Sean Penn, Penelope Cruz and Kate Winslet all charmed... Dustin Lance Black was utterly breathtaking.

Well done to the Brits :yahoo: :yahoo:

Congratulations to Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet finally wins Best Actress. :o

My thoughts exactly... She should've had one ages ago, truly one of the finest actresses of her generation.... She gave not just one, but two fukkin' amazing performances, "Revolutionary Road" was just as good as "The Reader".....

Well done Kate... One of our very finest actresses....

Heath winning Best supporting actor was stunningly predictable..... It may be deserved (although, I still personally feel that Phillip Seymour Hoffman was just as good, if not better, in Doubt), but it's gonna make those e-morons who want to effectively "ban" the Joker from any future Batman films even more unbearable.....

Good for Slumdog Millionaire as well... A great film to be sure, but I dunno, I saw "Benjamin Button" last week, and that really got to me a bit more than "Slumdog.." did.... But, all the films nominated this year were damn good, it was a VERY hard pick to be fair..... Same goes for Sean Penn vs Mickey Rourke... It's probably ultimately fair that Sean got an award and Mickey got one as well, hmm, does anyone think it was kinda planned that way....?

Still really unsure about Penelope Cruz..... I saw Cate Blanchett in "Benjamin Button", and she just blew me away tbh...... Incredible....... And, GOD, isn't she just a stunningly beautiful, graceful and elegant woman......? :o :o

Good for Danny Boyle as well, but of course we all KNOW he should've got one for "Trainspotting" 13 years ago......

I agree with you completely on this one Grimly

I thought Slumdog was a great solid film but I enjoyed Benjamind Button more. It is frankly one of the best films I’ve seen in years. It is nothing short of spectacular. Everything from the fantastic acting from Brad Pitt (who gives arguably the finest performance of his career) & Cate Blanchett, to the truly spectacular visual effects - everything about it was pure perfection. As far as cinematography goes, it is in a league of its own. This is a true epic that will most definatly become a classic, and although I really enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire and found it a very good film, I also think it is one of the most overrated films I’ve seen in years. It does not deserve to be winning Best film at every ceromony, when imo Benjamin Button, Milk, The Wrestler and Frost-Nixon are better imo, and The Dark Knight not being in the running for best picture is completely disgraceful. It’s only because it’s a superhero movie. It was also far superior to Slumdog imo, and Chris Nolan’s direction impressed me far more than Danny Boyle’s. Saying that, Boyle is a great director and did a fantastic job with Slumdog. I hate it when one film dominates all the award ceremonies, especially when there has been several better films throughout the year (well imo there were anyway). I even prefered Gran Torino (it is insane that Clint was not nominated for Best Actor for this), and In Bruges.

Would've prefered Mickey to have won best actor. Sean has got it before, and I really think Rourke's performance was just atoundingly good. Penn would've been my second choice as his performance in milk was excellent. Hugh Jackman was alot better than I expected as a host, although I'd like them to get Billy Cystal back for next year.

Slumdog Millionaire was a deserved winner imo. I've only seen 3 out of the 5 films nominated for the Best Picture, and no film stands out, as they're all very good, but Slumdog Millionaire just gives you that warm feeling after you've seen it. It's not the teary and emotional film you often see nominated, and instead it is a true underdog story, and it was a very deserved winner.

I kinda agree with all the winners. Sean Penn winning Best Actor was really the only shock, as I fully expected Mickey Rourke to win it. I've not seen Milk, but I know Sean Penn is a fantastic actor, but for me Mickey in The Wrester is just sublime. Such a great performance. Is a shame he didn't win imo, but at the end of the day, he's won some of the awards already so I guess it all sorts of evens itself out.

Having seen all of the major films nominated besides The Reader and The Wrestler, I can pretty much agree with them all. Sean Penn deserved it imo. Milk was such an empowering, moving film that was clearly all about Sean Penn as Harvey Milk. To be fair, I haven't seen The Wrestler, but Penn gave a completely stunning performance.

Slumdog was also my pick for film of the year, I've come to realize. Milk was great because of Sean Penn. Slumdog Millionaire was good all around. There were no actors that stood out (no one even recieved an actor/actresss nod), but everthing worked and pulled together equally. Completely solid film.

Penelope Cruz also quite deserved Best Supporting Actress. Love Vicky Christina Barcelona. I'll be honest; I was not a fan of Benjamin Button at all. It was alright, but much better came out this year.
