Posted February 24, 200916 yr Has anyone been to see them live? How were they? I imagine they'd put on quite a performance, not just sing like many bands do... Anyway, I started this thread because I just bought my ticket for Benicassim, a festival in Spain - and the Killers are one of the headline acts! Can't wait! I've never really seen any 'big' bands, only bands like the Cribs, Foals, Glasvegas, Dizzee Rascal (:kink:) so I really can't wait for this!
February 25, 200916 yr :o You lucky sod :( I REALLY, REALLY want to see them, and if I hadn't got sacked from my Job I probably would have gone to their Nottingham show :( My sister went to Glastonbury 2 Years ago (??) and they were headline act. But the sound was f***ed, so many people (including my sister) were left disappointed, but that wasn't their fault it was the sound. (Which I believe The Killers have said they don't want to play Glastonbury again because of that)
February 25, 200916 yr Author I've never gone to a festival before, let alone abroad! :o Have you got another job yet? :( I'm so excited! Not many bands have been confirmed so far, but the Killers, Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinand and Oasis are playing :cheer: [i know you probably don't care about FF or Oasis but meh]

It's so hard at the moment :(
February 25, 200916 yr I saw them live at Leeds festival last year. They were quite good. Probably the 4th best band I saw all weekend. I'm a big Killers fan, but the problem I found where I was stood was that people didn't know all their songs. Their set-list was a bit weird as well. They played a few songs off Sawdust that literally only the 'bigger' fans knew. That's the problem with festivals, you get a lot of casual fans who aren't into the band as much as you are (I guess I could have been considered in the same boat for some bands tho!). But the singles are absolutely amazing atmosphere wise - especially Mr Brightside and All These Things That I've Done. They always play the latter as the set closer, and it's such a good closer as EVERYONE knows and it, and they all sing along too. They had a few flashing lights for their performance, but I think Brandon was pilled up when I saw him performing, and I was wayy at the back too so it was non so good to see them. Anyway festivals are amazing. You'll have such a good time. You'll meet so many people who are just like you, and I imagine you won't have to worry about the mud and rain like we all do. The headliners seem pretty good for Benicassim, but I don't think i'm ready to go to a festival abroad yet, the ones in England are too good! (minus the prices).
February 25, 200916 yr Author I can imagine All These Things That I've Done being absolutely epic as a closer! I really can't wait, I've wanted to go to a festival for ages (well, went to Underage last year, but that's not really 'proper') and you're right about the mud - it's meant to be an average of about 27'C or something stupid like that. I don't usually like the heat that much, but I'm sure that seeing some of my favourite bands will make up for it! Hopefully the year after I'll go to either Reading or Leeds, they always have an amazing line-up and I've pretty much always wanted to go.

They're really good live, but it's just that I saw better bands over the week. Reading/Leeds is very good. It's quite a weird atmosphere though overall, i'd have thought it'd be very different to Benicassim, but if you enjoy the latter then definitely go to Reading/Leeds, it's not as prestigious as Glastonbury, but you always get such a good mix of bands (I guess the same could be said for Glasto too, but they always seem to cater for literslly ALL ages ).
February 27, 200916 yr I would love to see them live and they're actually doing a concert about an hour away... only problem is it sold out quite fast. :(
March 8, 200916 yr I went to Sheffield on the tour, here is my review from another forum: Eek back from Sheffield and it was just FANTASTIC! I think my favourite gig I've ever been to, it just seemed absolutely perfect. The atmosphere - It was amazing, there was such a broad mix of people lots of young couples, some older couples and even some cute mini Killers fans about ten years old singing along to every song in their T Shirts adorable. The crowd were up on their feet and dancing pretty much non stop across the whole arena from the front to back block and boxes for the whole show but particularly 'Spaceman', 'Brightside' 'All These Things' and the awesome WYWY finale, people went absolutely bonkers The setlist - Just about perfect, I felt really spoilt! All my favourite songs from Day and Age, all my favourite songs from Sam's Town including the gorgeous acoustic version of the title track AND Shadowplay AND all the old favourites. The only things that could possibly have made it completely 100% perfect was 'Neon Tiger' 'River is Wild' and 'All The Pretty Faces' still an amazing, amazing setlist that never seemed to end. After All These Things I realised that there was still WYWY and thought we'd probably get a one song encore. Instead I was delighted to hear 'Losing Touch, Bones, Jenny and WYWY. The stageset - I really loved it, some of the stuff on the screens were gorgeous and I loved the writing on the screen for 'All These Things' and then the confetti and fire at the very end, the final screen with The Killers logo emblazoned across an England flag actually made me a tad emotional, love these guys. The band - Brandon is a man of few words but he didn't need to say anything, his charisma just absolutely shines through. I thought his vocals were absolutely spot on, scotching comments that he can't sing. 'A Dustland Fairytale' was just gorgeous. Ronnie really kicked it on the drums as always and Dave and Mark as excellent as ever. Just about as perfect a night as could be for me, my feet were absolutely killing me, I think I sang/ screamed/whooped myself hoarse and could barely walk to catch our tram but just a magical evening. 12,000 people just going absolutely mental for my favourite band. I don't think I can pick out highlights because it was all amazing but if I had to I have to say 'A Dustland Fairytale' was STUNNING live and I'd love to see it as a single, obviously the classic 'Mr Brightside', 'Spaceman' which I just adore to pieces and 'All These Things'. It's always special, it's a special song but the atmosphere last night for that one song was magical. I wish I could do it all over again. The best thing was my boyfriend who was 'so so' about The Killers was BEYOND impressed and is now afully fledged and converted Killers fanatic! Woot! 10/10 for me. PS apparently the boys will be appearing in the next series of 'Live from Abbey Road' thats where Romeo and Juliet and acoustic 'Sam's Town' were born. Brilliant news! Oh, one more thing: they simply have to make a DVD of this tour, they HAVE to, the memories will live long for me but I'd love a permanent momemento too! And here is what they played: Human :w00t: This Is Your Life  Somebody Told Me :yahoo: For Reasons Unknown :D World We Live In  (Extended Intro) Joyride ^_^ I Can't Stay ^_^ Bling  Shadowplay  Spaceman :yahoo: Smile Like You Mean It  A Dustland Fairytale  Sam's Town (Acoustic) Read My Mind  Mr. Brightside :w00t: All These Things That I've Done :w00t: ---------------- Bones  Losing Touch  Jenny Was A Friend of Mine :yahoo: When You Were Young :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: Fantastic gig they have come on leaps and bounds even from last years festivals, so much more energy and confidence, they are a must see live!
March 9, 200916 yr They did an encore at Leeds too. Sooo good, but they only did 3 songs. And I know what you mean about All These Things That I've Done. Mr Brightside is their most well known song, but when ATTTID comes on, i've never seen a sing-a-long quite as big...
March 11, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the review Nicola, sounds amazing! :o Would love them to have WYWY as an encore when I see them, it would be EPIC
March 11, 200916 yr I went last night. Just... WOW  A completley different setlist, they seem to be changing it every night :heehee: But yeh, they were fantastic :cheer:
April 16, 200916 yr i went to see them in march as well james. men arena? anyway they were incredible! especially when they sung all these things i've done with everybody chanting along and the confetti shooting out! loved it..
April 17, 200916 yr I never went to an actual concert but i have seen loads of live clips from them on you tube and they sound amazing live and i think they reallyshould release a live album next
June 24, 200916 yr I am glad I found this topic because I wanted to know if someone knows the setlist? I am going to their concert on 09-01-09!!! I can't wait :w00t: Thanks in advance.
September 15, 200915 yr Author I never reported back here with what I thought of them did I?! I was WELLLL dissapointed! :( It was over two months ago now, so I can't remember it all that clearly, but I was gonna go there to see them right at the beginning, missing the last half of Lykke Li. She was SO good though (like srsly good), so I stayed to the end of her set and went to see Peter Doherty for a while, because y'know, he's a bit of a legend. He was amazing too and played loads of old Libs songs (although there was so much p*** thrown around at his set which wasn't all that nice...). So with p*** all over my clothes I went onto the Killers, who were about 30 mins into their 90 minute set. They were good, especially Brandon's singing, but they just weren't as good as I was expecting them to be. Plus, the sound quality probably didn't help that much. I think because I'd been so impressed with Lykke and Peter it'd also given me higher expectations. They just weren't as good performers as I thought they'd be. Especially compared to Franz Ferdinand, who I wasn't that fussed on seeing, but who were absolutely AMAZING live! :o If I got the chance to see them I probably would, but I'll just not have my expectations so high next time I think!

Awwww, how sad your experience wasn't that flattering. I still think they're the best live band at the moment and can't wait to see them on November 27th :D

As you mentioned Franz Ferdinand here's something I wrote back in March this year. I posted it on other sites but not here. Having already decided to go and see The Killers in Paris on Thursday night, it was perhaps quite fitting that I should then discover that Franz Ferdinand were also playing there the night before. After all, the original Franz Ferdinand’s death led to an awful lot of killers. On a more musical note, both bands released highly acclaimed debut albums and then went on to avoid the dreaded “second album syndrome” by releasing excellent follow-ups. This only added to the pressure on them for their third albums (I’m not counting Sawdust as a “true” album as it was a compilation of b-sides and other bits and bobs). Of the two, The Killers’ Day And Age has easily out-performed Franz’s Tonight but I think they are both pretty good albums. One thing I had forgotten from previous gigs in France was that the time shown on the ticket is the time the first band comes on, not the time the doors open. A couple years ago that led to me missing part of The Coral’s set when they supported the Arctic Monkeys. This time, I missed the very start of each support act but caught most of the set. I was tempted to avoid Franz’s support on the assumption that a band called Kissogram couldn’t possibly be any good. Equally, if I’d known they were from Berlin, I wouldn’t have had very high expectations. I would have been very wrong as they were actually very good. The best description I can think of is that they are the missing link between Franz and Talking Heads. Having said that, neither of those bands is listed among their influences. Sparks are though so that’s another thing in their favour. Franz Ferdinand themselves were excellent. They relied fairly heavily on the first two albums but the singles Ulysses and No You Girls were among the songs from Tonight. The highlight of the new songs, though, was an outstanding version of Lucid Dreams as part of the encore. That came immediately after The Outsiders. Anyone who has seen them live before will have known what to expect as soon as the song started. The whole band – plus anyone else they can cajole into helping out – will end up on the drums. When I saw them in Brighton in 2006, they had about a dozen people banging the drums by the end. It’s become a key part of their live show and long may it remain so. Finally, all credit to Alex Kapranos for addressing the audience in French most of the time, even if it was mostly pretty basic French. After all, it was simple enough for me to understand it. The Killers’ support band were called Louis XIV. How do they pronounce their name? They called themselves Louis Quatorze on the night but maybe that was just because they were in Paris. They might normally call themselves Louis 14 perhaps. Or maybe Louis 14th (as Americans they’d omit the “the”). Or could it even be Louis Ziv? Anyway, were they any good? They had some good songs and some not so good songs. The one they were playing when I arrived was pretty awful. They saved the best till last with a song co-written by a certain Mr. Brandon Flowers. The Killers, as expected, were amazing. Brandon Flowers is a great front-man and a brilliant showman. They opened with their massive current hit, Human, and proceeded to play a good mix of the hits and songs from Day And Age. Towards the end, it was time to start guessing the order in which the remaining familiar songs would be played. And, sure enough, All These Things That I’ve Done was indeed the final song of the main set. That left three songs which seemed certain to feature in the encore. And Bones and Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine duly featured as the first two songs on their return. The World We Live In was next (I should have guessed that as well) before proceedings were brought to an end with a storming When We Were Young. When Sam’s Town came out, I saw the band at the Bataclan in Paris, a great venue with a capacity of approx 1200. The Zenith, in contrast, holds over 7000. For a venue of its size, it’s OK but I much prefer smaller venues. The size of the place meant that Brandon wasn’t as chatty as before. You can’t really try and have an intimate conversation with 7000 people – most of whom probably only understand half of what you say anyway. One more word on the start time. When I went to the Zenith I thought I could just get off the metro and follow the crowd. Unfortunately, there was no crowd as most people had already arrived. I got there in the end but not exactly by the quickest route.
