If we're going by what you're saying, a song from a band that has had several UK top 40 singles and a song from an artist that has been at number 1 for 4 weeks is incredibly cheap.

How you've got the face to be arguing against cheapness when the pair of you have cheap entries is laughable.

But it's a SONG contest. So artist shouldn't really matter. Especially considering my song is Unknown, to ALOT of people in this contest. Except for Mikal, I don't know ANYONE else who has heard 'Hatin on the Club'. But I know far more people who have heard Lily's album in this contest, so they're more than likely to have heard 'Back to the Start'

To be fair, I do class both your entries as being in the grey area for the aforementioned reasons :P

 

Although if it came down to it, from the reaction it has received on BJ I would have to judge Hatin' On The Club as being less cheap...

I really dont think everyone can keep going on like this until we make it perfectly clear what a 'cheap song' even IS. In my opinion, cheap defines songs that are already major hits - so the only song i'd call cheap in this contest is Love Story. Fair enough if opinions differ, but I refuse to accept that because a song is high in the multichart, well loved on buzzjack that this makes it cheap? Surely youre then saying a song loved by Buzzjack = cheap? So by that definition, Agnes was cheap + Margaret Berger too? No, utter crap, of course theyre not cheap - so how can we call any song liked by buzzjack cheap? IMHO (i know im jumping to my own songs defence here) but just because Amy is #27 in the multichart, does not make her cheap. Rihanna is, in theory, a cheap artist, but i dont see how Hatin On The Club is a cheap entry at all - it's a largely unknown song, that leaked quietly with the thread on buzzjack having less than ten replies! Even songs like Lily - Back To The Start and Kelly - Already Gone i dont think are cheap. Yes theyre from major albums - but Kelly's hasnt even been RELEASED yet...heck it only leaked just over a week ago, and the song of Lily's is quite borderline in terms of 'cheapness'.. 'The Fear', yes, that wouldbe a very cheap entry if entered now, but i disagree that BTTS is cheap :/

 

So, in conclusion, i refuse to take any further part in this ridiculous debate until people decide what a cheap song is. If you disagree with people entering songs that are popular on a forum, then good god this contest is gonna get $h!t...

The way you worded what you said made it look like you were trying to discredit what I was saying based on the number of contests I have entered. It doesn't mean I haven't been following it for longer or been able to get a general gist of things. Also "these days" has nothing to do with the length I've been taking part in this? It was a general comment over the time of the contest so please don't misconstrue what I said by putting words in my mouth.

 

Yanno as a relative outsider you guys need to watch the way you're going about this, you risk completely ruining the spirit of the contest. Simply don't vote for what you these cheap entries. Really? :o I can't say I can think of many examples where that could be proved, aside from a few isolated examples - e.g. Tapatilandia-Eledan, and perhaps Jark-Mikal-James, although in that case I think any vote swapping is more likely to be that they send songs that they introduce each other to...I think it's more an issue of similar music tastes, as I believe in Eurovision ;o

I'm not sure whether you've been following the latest contests but Tapatilandia avoided the opportunity to vote for the great nation of Eledan in BJSCXIII. :P

The Fear was thankfully never considered to be cheap at the time. It was just a demo, until mid December Everyone's At It was the rumoured lead single. I most certainly stand up for my VI entry.

 

I wouldn't say Back To The Start is cheap. The album was released barely a week by the time i confirmed the song.

I'm more than aware you were beaten to sending Danny by Land Of Jack, who if i remember correctly failed to qualify whereas you did. Twist of fate much?

 

Erm, i have never said that grey areas were horrifically bad, having about 5 of my former entries in said area. Grey i can put up with, too many is slightly annoying however. Oh, and i think you'll find i was one of the first to confirm so at the beginning i was one of very few grey/cheap songs.

 

Just because Trash has singled out Lily and KC in the initial post doesn't mean i completely agree with his opinion. People are signing for different reasons and everyone has different definitions of cheapness. It's the case that Trash has started the thread and provided examples of what he thinks constitutes cheap in this contest.

 

Once more i'd invite you to find the post where i said KC was cheap? I believe the only artist i have directly named and shamed is Taylor Swift. who is currently at #2. I have joined to stop more Love Story's being entered in the future as it is against the very idea of BJSC.

 

I would have thought that you'd actually have enough intelligence to read a thread before accusing people of things :rolleyes:
