Posted March 8, 200916 yr News Of The World have revealed Hannah Murray  from Skins as the new Dr. Who assistant, I really don't know if this is true so take it with a pinch of salt, my natural reaction was WHO??? And here she is http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00447/Cassie-from-Skins_2_447968a.jpg That's my Saturday evening ruined from March 2010  Not my ideal choice if its true, but I've never watched an episode of Skins in my life.
March 8, 200916 yr Ahaha if she was I can imagine a lot of people having kittens about it. I LIKE HER THOUGH. She's different and quirky, not just because she played Cassie, but still.
March 8, 200916 yr ^ If true. RIP Dr Who. This selection is as poor as the selection of Matt Smith IMHO. Since his selection I watched him in Moses Jones & BBC4's repeat of Party Animals and for me he just does not have anything approaching the greatness that Christopher Eccleston & David Tennant had to pull off the role so well. Tellingly, Anna Friel cryptically revealed on her website last week that she auditioned for "a significant part in an iconic long running Sci-Fi serial" but implied that she appeared to have priced herself out of the running. But hey as media reports say that Matt Smith is only getting £200K per year compared to the £950K per annum that David Tennant earned then it is obvious that the BBC are trying to produce future series of Dr Who on the cheap. Hence downgrading the show as a landmark BBC show. Now knowing the likes of Paterson Joseph, Colin Salmon & Sean Pertwee auditioned and were rejected for the role of the 11th Doctor & now (seemingly) knowing the likes of allegedly Anna Friel; Daniela Nardini; Sheridan Smith; Katherine Parkinson & Rebecca Ryan have been unsuccessful to an actress who seemed to spend the whole series of Skins saying "Wow" a lot leaves me with a terrible sinking sick feeling in my stomach as they are going to alienate a hell of a lot of older viewers of the show (viewers aged 35+ made up 54% of its audience in 2008).
March 8, 200916 yr Author I think the recession has hit Dr. Who, they are turning it into a low budget series, when Sylvester McCoy took it over the series died :( Even I saw an episode of Moses Jones and I was not impressed, seriously Jon Pertwee must be turning in his grave, not giving the role to Sean Pertwee. He really really wanted to do it, I guess the producers wanted to bring a much younger audience to the series and dismissing the cult followers of the Dr. Who franchise. I can hear those death bells getting nearer. :(
March 8, 200916 yr Some of you are SO ridiculous. -_- Martin, you've never seen her in anything but RIP Doctor Who? So basically you're going off a photo? 'Good one'. As for Matt Smith, I think he's great in Party Animals. If his Doctor is written as somebody not cocky or especially cool, but instead quirky and geeky and slightly hopeless, it'll be great. A LOT better than rubbish Christopher Ecclestone was!

March 8, 200916 yr BOO. She's not even that bad =s. And basing it on her acting as Cassie fails because there's only so many ways you can portray uhh, a deluded, drug-indulging, naive girl or whatever the character was meant to be about lol. Anwar = Quite $h!t. Yet supposedly Dev Patel = GOD in Slumdog Millionaire. SHE MAY BE THE FEMALE, WHITE, DEV PATEL.
March 8, 200916 yr Surely it's better to cut costs by reducing the amount they pay the cast than reducing the amount spent on CGI and other effects.
March 8, 200916 yr FANTASTIC!! I'm really looking forward to the new series  I LOVED her in Skins, and it will be a nice change to see her playing in a normal-ish role! :D We all thought Billie Piper would be $h!t when she was announced as an assistant, look what happened to her (Arguable the best Dr Who assistant EVER!) Catherine Tate got better as that series got on. I am a big fan of Freema's Assistant too! Some people really need to stop "Judging a Book by it's cover" as they say, and wait to see just how well she really does. Saying "R.I.P Dr Who if True" or whatever, before you've even seen her in the role, is pretty pathetic in all honesty.

I loved Cassie, I just am not convinced that Hannah Murray will be able to play another character.
March 8, 200916 yr I think she'll be great tbh. She was fantastic in Skins, like Jark, Jonjo and Slick have said, I'm sure she'll be brilliant in Doctor Who too. "BRING IT ON" I say -_-
March 8, 200916 yr She annoyed the fuck out of me on Skins. But again, I wouldn't judge her (as with Matt Smith) until she's actually been in a episode.
March 8, 200916 yr Ok. I reacted badly to Catherine Tate. But I ended up adoring her and becoming a huge huge fan. But this is a rumour and hopefully a very very false one. Like someone esle said, I'd rather Michelle Ryan was in it full-time after her fantastic performance in Merlin. Please bring back Sally Sparrow :(
March 8, 200916 yr She annoyed the fuck out of me on Skins. But again, I wouldn't judge her (as with Matt Smith) until she's actually been in a episode. She played an irritating character. So, if she irritated you, that could be seen as a sign that she's a decent actress. And I'll admit I was one of those people who were horrified whwn Billie Piper was signed up but she turned out to be brilliant.
March 9, 200916 yr To follow up Jonjo, it's not even that you guys haven't seen her in this particular role, it's that you've barely seen her in any roles no doubt! The Dr Who team have clearly seen more of her than we have and have rarely got it wrong in my opinion. I am a big fan of her as Cassie in Skins but my opinion isn't based on that as I expect the characters to be nothing alike. So, I hope it's true :)
March 9, 200916 yr So, now we know the real reasons why Matt Smith and Hannah "who????" Murray have been hired.... They come cheap....... Yeah, cos that's a real good reason for hiring someone for the most high-profile show on British TV.... WHAT A FUKKIN' JOKE............ <_< <_< Patterson Joseph (or Sean Pertwee) and Anna Friel would have been utterly astounding..... Instead, we get a cut-price pair of fukkin' NOBODIES to head up a flagship programme......... Christ, at least George Lazenby had Diana Rigg to actually cover his ass......
March 9, 200916 yr She was is Skins....? God I watched about two episodes of that piece of cr@p..... Some telly reviewer said "if you liked Shameless you'll love Skins...". Bollocks.....  Skins is like Shameless without the great acting, brilliantly written scripts and memorable characters.....

I think the only reason the younger Buzzjack members can't see why you, me & Martin are getting so pessimistic is because exactly the same thing happened to Dr Who from its Tom Baker late 1970s halycon days when it was a regular weekly UK Top 5 most watched programme with a regular audience of 12-16 million to a pathetic 3.5 million less than a decade later with the Sylvestor McCoy / Bonnie Langford combination. As you rightly infer hiring the relatively unknown & inexperienced Matt Smith would be forgivable if you had a damn good experienced actress to cover his backside. (If all of this speculation turns out to be true) For the BBC not take on an actress of Anna Friel's calibre who will be starring in a $100 million Sci-Fi Adventure movie out in June with the brilliant Will Ferrell .......: lYuVWpF5B94 Land of the Lost (2009) 3D Trailer whom was a long time Dr Who fan (she auditioned unsuccessfully for the part of Dr. Grace Holloway in the 1996 Dr Who movie); with her partner David Thewlis shooting the next two Harry Potter films in the UK throughout the 2nd half 2009/early 2010 she is/was available to work in the UK is bordering on stupidity IMHO on a par with if RTD turned down Christoher Eccleston offer to revive the franchise's main character. But it is clear the BBC are downgrading Dr Who in terms of cash spent on the show & hence the quality of the SFX's; scripts & acting will suffer accordingly and so I suspect will the audience figures.
