March 9, 200916 yr What a lorry load of old rubbish, all this will do is pave the way for other upload sites to become more popular instead. There's so many rules and regs to everything these days, none of them work and infact most just work against one another. If anything, i think youtube is a good promotion tool for artists. Rant over :D
March 9, 200916 yr It is crazy but from the looks of things surely they will be banning only the 'official' label videos, presumingly music videos uploaded by fans are still likely to be there? I'd find it hard to believe they'd be able to ban everything. Hopefully itll get sorted soon though.
March 10, 200916 yr Author Funny thing is, I just tried some official videos on Youtube... no effect
March 10, 200916 yr Music Week article By Robert Ashton PRS for Music has said it is “outraged” after YouTube’s decision to close down access to music videos on its site in the UK. YouTube is blocking all music videos to UK users after failing to reach a new licensing agreement with PRS for Music. Thousands of videos from major acts and hundreds of labels are now unavailable to YouTube users after negotiations broke down between the two sides. However, PRS for Music says the move was taken without any consultation with the licensing body. It claims Google told PRS they were taking the step because they wanted to pay “significantly less” than under the current deal. This is despite the massive increase in YouTube viewing largely through music. PRS for Music CEO Steve Porter says, "We were shocked and disappointed to receive a call late this afternoon informing us of Google's drastic action which we believe only punishes British consumers and the songwriters whose interests we protect and represent." Porter and his group are urging YouTube to reconsider the decision “as a matter of urgency”. Google had revenues of $5.7bn in the last quarter of 2008.
March 10, 200916 yr Strange...i can see Polydor videos and also Universal. Is it perhaps that the UK viewers don't see nothing?
March 11, 200916 yr Is it perhaps that the UK viewers don't see nothing? It is just us in the United Kingdom.
March 11, 200916 yr Strange...i can see Polydor videos and also Universal. Is it perhaps that the UK viewers don't see nothing? For some videos I'm getting the message: "This video is not available in your country." However, to be honest, it's only very few.
March 11, 200916 yr it's weird how US media companies feel threatened by the current success boom of british artists and movies worldwide at the expense of american culture... That's why YouTube banned the videos... it's the end of YouTube as we know it... anyway it has been crap for the last 5 months or so, deleting all the good videos...
March 20, 200916 yr This is bloody annoying. I just tried to watch a couple of videos on youtube only to get the annoying "these videos are not available in your country" message. Went to Daily Motion instead, think I might just continue to use that site in the foreseeable future!
March 20, 200916 yr OMG! I can't watch the Welcome to Heartbreak uploaded by UMG and Poker Face. YouTube needs to sort this out sooner or else it will be not a fun place for music. :( Edited March 20, 200916 yr by funmaker11
March 21, 200916 yr This is so frustrating. YouTube is great promotion for the artist and great for the fans.
March 22, 200916 yr Thank God i am in Australia whilst this is going down. with any luck it'll be sorted by the time i return to the UK in July. If not then it won't be too long before i return to Aus, i hope... YouTube is CRAP! Good thing I'm moving to AUS, I can still be as cheap as I like in BJSC (not that I want to) this is a BAAD idea. Very bad! Where? Anywhere but my dear Brissy and if the UK can't view the videos it won't matter where you are, you'll need a UK viewable video
May 27, 200916 yr BUMP...because there may be light at the end of the tunnel...the PRS are cutting royalty rates... Telegraph.co.uk: PRS cutting royalty rates
May 27, 200916 yr Not yet...from the article... A YouTube spokesperson said: “We welcome any efforts to make licensing costs more realistic, but as we're still in discussions with the PRS to agree license terms for YouTube we're unable to comment further.” Sounds hopeful that an agreement will be reached soon though.
May 27, 200916 yr Not yet...from the article... Sounds hopeful that an agreement will be reached soon though. Weird. I can access almost anything :cheer:
