April 8, 200916 yr Of course I am thrilled about this episode, really looking forward to it! ^_^ I like Michelle Ryan and it will be nice to see Lee Evans in something.
April 8, 200916 yr I'm listening to Radio 5 Live right now where David Tennant is a guest promoting this Easter special.
April 8, 200916 yr I haven't actually seen "42", but for spaceship-heading-toward-the-sun check out the sun probe episode of Thunderbirds, surely that predates Sunshine and Dr Who. you are right, it is one episode i remember very well!
April 8, 200916 yr I'm listening to Radio 5 Live right now where David Tennant is a guest promoting this Easter special. he was with jo wiley on r1 earlier
April 8, 200916 yr Author I believe David and Catherine Tate are taking over J.Ross's R2 show this Saturday too! :cheer: MAJOR Hope they might discuss Donna's return in the final 2 eps
April 8, 200916 yr Which was obviously inspired by the anti-Nuclear weapon Sci-Fi disaster drama British movie "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" (1961). Where the Soviet Union and the USA have detonated nearly-simultaneous nuclear bomb tests, leading to the Earth moving out of its orbit and towards the sun. Increasing heat from the sun causes the water on Earth to evaporate, and consequently the governments have to ration water. Scientists conclude that the only one way to bring Earth back into its orbit is to detonate a series of nuclear bombs in the west of Siberia...... That's a really good film actually, one of the grimmest and darkest of that particular genre..... "Sunshine" is a rather different beast though, that film's about the sun dying and they try to "jump start" it with a nuclear explosion at its core.. I think thare's some really utterly startling imagery in "Sunshine", the direction and photography are both superb.. The scene with the guy walking on the side of the ship trying to repair the solar panels before being fried alive is so utterly tense as fukk..... My only complaint about Sunshine was the fact that it went a bit silly towards the end, and it ended a little too closely like the final act of "Event Horizon"..... But at least Sunshine wasn't silly all the way through, like "42" was.....
April 8, 200916 yr That's a really good film actually, one of the grimmest and darkest of that particular genre..... i liked that too...it was the first time ever (which in the 60's was shocking) i heard the word 'bast*rds' on tv... "the bast*rds have finally done it" i think it was.
April 9, 200916 yr i liked that too...it was the first time ever (which in the 60's was shocking) i heard the word 'bast*rds' on tv... " GAWD, they must've showed it after midnight in that case.....
April 10, 200916 yr Looking forward to this, Doctor Who AND Red Dwarf back on one weekend. Good times!
April 11, 200916 yr Really looking forward to this now - I love Michelle Ryan so will be great to see her in it ^_^
April 11, 200916 yr David Tennant & Catherine Tate were sitting in for Jonathan Ross on Radio 2 earlier, great show. They had John Barrowman on too and he said Torchwood will be back in the summer sometime.
April 11, 200916 yr David Tennant & Catherine Tate were sitting in for Jonathan Ross on Radio 2 earlier, great show. They had John Barrowman on too and he said Torchwood will be back in the summer sometime. only a week long special for Torchwood though :( Darned BBC! Anyway I'm growing in excitement for tonight now :cheer: Just watched The Stolen Earth/Journey's End and about to go and watch The Next Doctor. And spoilerdom below: He is coming from the darkness. He will knock four times... We may not have a series this year, but these specials have got me all :w00t:
April 11, 200916 yr Author Read that last night  So freaking psyched for the final two episodes this year! Even if means saying goodbye to David. You just know they are gonna be amazing! MAJOR! Between Donna & Wilfs return now we have an appearance from Sarah Jane and Luke :cheer: And of course the Master!
April 11, 200916 yr Excellent so far! The scripting is brilliant. 'That's not a name, that's a psychological condition!'
April 11, 200916 yr Author OMG I LOVED IT! :cheer: Thats one of my fav eps ever!! Michelle Ryan was super  Bring on The Waters of Mars :o!!
April 11, 200916 yr That was just... ridiculous. Loved it! Doctor Who does light and silly just as well as deep and sad, and that was one of the best really silly episodes in so long! Michelle Ryan is bloody good. 10/10.
April 11, 200916 yr A bit of a slow burner to start off with, I thought they were going to be stuck on the bus for a while at the beginning, but the episode paced up a bit and enjoyable to watch, and Michelle is well fit  shame she won't be the new assistant, she would have been great, but she doesn't want to be tied down to another series as I read from a magazine report. Personally Lee Evans stole the episode completely, I say 6/10 ok-ish story, I've seen better. The ending was a bit of a twist, where the woman said his song is coming, and 4 knocks which I'm assuming 4 knocks are the last 4 episodes. And I think the No.200 on the bus means it was the 200th episode or something along those lines. The Waters Of Mars is to be screened June Bank Holiday with the third in August and the Xmas special.
April 11, 200916 yr Author Spot on Martin it was indeed a reference to 200th ep :D Gutted Mchelle ruled herself out of a series but her chemistry with David was superb so I'm sortta glad they wont try her with Matt!
April 11, 200916 yr I enjoyed that way more than I was expecting to! Michelle Ryan was really good (shocker!) and Lee Evans was very funny too. 8/10 for me :P
