May 3, 200916 yr No, YOU'RE missing the point Rob.... You quoted Mr Caine as saying...."im 76, i get up at 6 am to support the 3.5 million layabouts on benefits"... So, he's effectively saying that every single person on the dole is fiddling or a layabout.... WHAT ABSOLUTE FUKKIN' COCK...... <_< With that comment, he makes absolutely NO distinction whatsoever between the scummy Chavs who've NEVER worked and the folks who've been unfortunate as to have lost a job due to the bloody recession, people like several of MY MATES who are now on the dole because of the Credit Crunch/Recession and most definitely ARE actively looking for work, as well as the number of graduates this year who are facing an extremely uphill struggle to find a job, the level of graduate unemployment is at record level mate.. Are these people "layabouts" as well...? FUKK OFF, they didn't exactly go through uni for three or four years to bloody languish on the dole you prat..... And dont come back to me with "oh, but he wasn't including those", that's just utter bollocks mate, he very clearly does NOT make that distinction in his comments, he tars ALL the unemployed with the same brush..... Oh, and by the way, the fact that he makes no distinctions means he's ALSO including physically and mentally disabled people who claim benefits also, so, his comments are actually borderline OFFENSIVE to me as someone who works with disabled students, who are now going to find it even harder than ever to find a decent job when they graduate.... Yeah, "layabouts" eh.....? All Caine had to do was say "I get up at 6 am to support these bloody Chavs who've never done a day's bloody work in their lives"... Now THAT I could get behind because we all KNOW what Chavs are and what a bunch of fukkin' parasitical b'astards they are... But that aint what he said, so, he can p!ss off and die..... you bicker over minor points, wrongly as usual (jade goody wanting to die in front of the cameras for eg <_< ) everyone knew what she meant, but for the sake of argument you had to take it literally and make a song and dance out of it <_<. its obvious to me what/who he was refering too... when i diss the benefits scum its OBVIOUS im refering to the cheats.... not everyone. i havnt the full quote, but i know, we all know, that caine WASNT dissing ALL the poor, not even all on benefits... just the bone idle who are career benefits families. end of.

But the number of people claiming benefits is actually a bit less than the 3 million plus Caine quoted ... I would take that to mean that Mr Caine does believe that everyone on benefits is a sponging, lard-arsed, lazy bast*rd! The thing is - everyone who pays taxes is helping to support the country - none of us like paying taxes but it has to be done. Some of us don't have the luxury however to just 'up and leave' when we can't get our own way. We'll carry on supporting the country, dealing with whatever $h!t is thrown at us until taxes are lowered again to tempt 'talent' like Caine back! I think people have sanctified Caine for far too long ... yes we all know he's 'working class' made good - Judas Priest - he never gives anyone a chance to frigging forget it. But he's not the only one! There are other good - and certainly a million times more talented people than Caine - actors / directors / musicians out there who just go ahead and pay their taxes without complaining. Norma well i dont read it like that, and i would of course condemn anyone who dissed the poor per-se, or genuine people on benefits.
May 4, 200916 yr well i dont read it like that, and i would of course condemn anyone who dissed the poor per-se, or genuine people on benefits. Well, sorry mate, but that's the way I read it... If he'd meant the spongeing "Chavs" or "Schemies" as we call them in Scotland, he should've said it, and made a very clear distinction between the chavs and the rest of the unemployed, he didn't, hence my total hostility to his comments, I dont view it as a "small" or "trivial" point.... This inability to talk in an informed or sensible manner about very important issues is the reason why most "celebs", imo, should just keep their mouths shut.... Here's a little piece of trivia for you, friend of mine works in HMV in Bond St.. Michael Caine pops in to buy a couple of DVDs (in a very obvious "disguise" of tatty baseball cap and dark glasses) and then proceeds to treat my friend like a piece of sh!t, and totally looking down his nose at her just because she's wearing piercings and has tats..... So, dont tell ME he aint disrespecting the working classes..... <_<
May 4, 200916 yr We call them Schemies? Last time i was that far north we called em NED's, i thought that was the generally used term nowadays in Scotland
May 4, 200916 yr We call them Schemies? Both terms are used, "schemie" is actually an older term, used more by my mum's generation, granted... I remember being at school and the use of the word "schemie" was really the ultimate insult... NED came along a bit later....

I would take that to mean that Mr Caine does believe that everyone on benefits is a sponging, lard-arsed, lazy bast*rd! Spot on Norma.... So, clearly I'm not the ONLY one who has read Caine's comments in this way... I presume Russ and Suedehead have also read his comments in these terms..... Silas too I would imagine.... He IS disrespecting the poor, end of..... Perhaps Mr Caine should give up acting and be a Daily Mail/Sun columnist, he'd do great alongside Richard and Judy, Clarkson and Carol Thatcher.....

He can say what he likes so long as it's within the law and not inciting racial hatred etc. I've never rated him as much of an actor but hey he has a right to his opinions just as much as anyone else.

Talentless piece of crap celebrity he is ... you are correct in that he has the right to exercise his right to free-speech. However - he talks as though the ONLY thing that taxes pay for are benefits. Doesn't the fish-eyed clown realise it goes on defence, police, environment, health, education and the arts. The latter I thought he'd be only too willing to pay a few more percent of his squillions on. I'd admire him expressing his right to free-speech if he just said what he meant in three little words 'I'm Alright Jack!' Yes I know grammatically one of those little words is actually two ... but you know what I mean. Norma

NED came along a bit later.... Ah  I'd heard Skimo before at school, which i believe was the forerunner to NED at my school. I call em Chav's more people understand, although the nasty breed seems to have been unable to spread very far beyond the UK Spot on Norma.... So, clearly I'm not the ONLY one who has read Caine's comments in this way... I presume Russ and Suedehead have also read his comments in these terms..... Silas too I would imagine.... That is indeed the way i read it, and right now i am one of the unemployed and do not and will not take a single penny in dole money. Yes but how has he made his money ? through the public buying his DVD's and going to the cinema to watch his movies, a large number of those that have given him money are likely to be unemployed at some point in their life or having a condition that means they can't work so Caine is happy to take their money and then turn round and spit in their faces, it is bloody obvious what he meant he was suggesting that EVERYONE who is unemployed is a good for nothing sponger leeching off his taxes, es a good number certainly are but he has lumped everyone in the same catergory which is utterly ridiculous in the middle of a credit crunch, its obvious what he meant Sure he is entitled to freedom of speech but he is happy to take the money ofthose that he is slagging off which makes him a fukkin hypocrite He is a fukkin prat, if I was out of work I would be well offended at what he said Edited May 4, 200916 yr by B.A Baracus

If he didn't mean to include them all in his remarks, why mention a figure at all?

May 4, 200916 yr I am at the oposite end of the political spectrum to you/Norma/Russ/Suedehead/Silas etc and even I would say that he was aiming what he said at EVERY unemployed person in this country He is mate, and it's bloody blatant to me that he's having a go at the poorest folk in the country.... Yes, he can have his "freedom of speech" if he wants, but I reserve the right to have the freedom of speech to say he's talking utter bollox and he should just p!ss off and die.... In my view, he's just another clueless "celeb" who's forgotten his roots, and is looking at extremely complicated issues in the most simplistic of terms, and just goes down the well-worn Daily Mail path of insulting the poor....
