TV plan to find Jade musical star

By Fiona Pryor

Entertainment reporter, BBC News

The musical will feature some of Jade Goody's favourite songs

A TV talent show to find an "ordinary girl" to play Jade Goody in a musical based on her life is being planned, it has been announced.

Goody's ex-business partner Danny Hayward said no deal had been struck with a TV network but that the stage musical would "definitely happen".

Ex-publicist Max Clifford said it was "a wonderful idea that has got very, very strong potential".

He said he would be a judge on the TV show "if it comes to fruition".

Mr Hayward, who was one of Goody's "best men" at her wedding to Jack Tweed in February, said open auditions would take place across the UK to find hopefuls who will compete in the TV show.

Dates would be announced in three weeks' time, he added.

"Jade was just an ordinary girl and the person who plays her will reflect that," he said.

Mr Hayward is hoping to "repeat history" by finding an unknown person and turn them into a household name, as happened with Goody.

"Her dream was as a little girl was to be in a musical, so obviously when she passed away it felt fitting to do something like this."

He said Goody had not known about the project, as the idea had been devised since her death.

Asked if he was concerned people would accuse him of exploiting Goody, Mr Hayward said: "I have nothing to say to those people really.

"She was tabloid gold, The people have the right to choose their hero.

"If the show continues to raise awareness about cervical cancer, be a good night out and further her legacy, then it's not really hurting anyone."

He said the production would include some original songs, which would be written by "well known bands, who wish to remain anonymous" at the moment.

No deal has been struck with a TV network, but he said he hoped to pitch to MTV and ITV2.

Film plan

Meanwhile, Mr Clifford said the project was "nothing more than an idea - we're talking ifs, buts and maybes".

He added: "If it comes to fruition, then yes I will be a judge. It's a wait and see.

"If I'm going to announce something is happening, it's because I know it's going ahead."

He also refused to confirm that the musical would be going ahead.

Earlier this month, Mr Clifford revealed he had been in talks with several film companies about making a movie based on Goody.

He told Radio 1 Newsbeat that they were "serious discussions" because her "incredible life touched so many people".

Goody, who became famous after appearing in Big Brother, passed away in March after she lost her high-profile battle with cancer illness.

Thousands of people turned out to see the funeral procession, which travelled through London. before reaching Buckhurst Hill in Essex, where the funeral took place.

Do you think this is a great idea or a new low in Reality Talent Show TV?

tbf to Jade she has nothing to do with this this is vultures exploiting her name in death but yeah if she had not courted the publicity then there would not be demand for rubbish like this and sadly a lot of people will go and see this

Injured 'hero' marine is race fit

BBC News

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8017473.stm

A Royal Marine from Plymouth hailed as "Prince Harry's personal hero" will be running the London Marathon on Sunday.

Ben McBean lost his left arm and right leg in an explosion when he was serving with 40 Commando in Afghanistan in February 2008.

He also suffered nerve and skin damage, and he and Prince Harry returned from service on the same flight.

The 22-year-old said he hopes to raise £10,000 for the charity 'Help for Heroes' by taking part in the marathon.

Marine McBean told the BBC: "They basically help guys like me out, and because they have I'm just trying to give a little bit back.

"I'm injured but I'm alright. I can do the same things I used to be able to, just a bit slower.

"There are guys who have just been injured and I want to show them that they can actually progress and move on."

Marine McBean decided to run the 26 mile (42km) marathon after watching it on TV last year.

He said: "I was laying on my hospital bed watching TV, and I was thinking 'yeah, I'll give that a go!', bearing in mind I couldn't even sit up.

"I just thought 'I'll do it,' and a year later here I am, ready to rock and roll."

It will be the first time Marine McBean has run the famous London Marathon.

He said he had not done much training to avoid hurting his injured leg before the event, but he was "not fussed" by it.

"It's going to be hard work and I know that, but physically I'm fit and mentally I'm fit, and I'm able to do it," he said.

"It's just a case of what my leg decides to do on the day. If that just gets too painful that might pull me out, but I'll keep on going.

"Even if I wind up walking the last 10 miles just to finish then I'll finish it."

I don't get how it would be a success. It would go something like,

"Jade is born into a dump"

"Jade enters reality programme and makes a fool out of herself and is branded fat/pig/thick by the UK"

"Jade makes book, perfume and other stuff"

"Jade provokes race row, becomes hated"

"Jade diagnosed with cancer, doesn't do much but lots of people liked her again".

Hmm.. entertaining.

Chavtastic :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

:puke2:
