Posted May 5, 200916 yr WHO shall go down this year then? :o At the moment it looks pretty conclusive and the Boro-Newcastle match is destined to be a draw but if one team wins that match then i've the feeling they will escape relegation. It does look like 40 points needs to be accumilated to be safe of relegation. I'm thinking: Hull Newcastle West Brom
May 5, 200916 yr I don't think 40 points will be anywhere near the total needed to stay up this season tbh, 3 games left and none of the bottom 5 have any sort of good form atm, so it's looking like coming down to who's already got the points on board, which just about favours Sunderland and Hull. Did the bbc predictor and got this. 15. Portsmouth 39 (+1) 16. Hull 37 (+3) 17. Sunderland 36 (+1) -------------------------------- 18. Newcastle 35 (+4) 19. Middlesbrough 32 (+1) 20. West Brom 31 (+3)
May 5, 200916 yr ashame West Brom are just about dead and buried, would have been funny seeing all 3 north east teams dive down  To be frank my Boro are down :( That's what you get for being the most constipated team in Britain. And I think we have a new Leeds Utd situation with Newcastle, I doubt those faithful 50,000 will be there next season when they're in the Championship. Ironic that Alan Smith and Viduka are there  Mass exodus is looming - Barton whatever the weather.
May 5, 200916 yr The fact we have a recession as well might mean Newcastle might even go bankrupt :o I certainly wouldn't rule it out! I say West Brom, Boro and Newcastle but because of Shearer I don't want Newcastle to go down but after going to Old Trafford and seeing such an entertaining game against Hull I don't want them to go either and I'm Mykul would burn me if I said Sunderland. Hull and Portsmouth will be in trouble next season too if they stay up though.
May 5, 200916 yr Newcastle have 2 home games left so in the form Hull are in I think it will be Hull, Boro and West Brom

They have plenty of saleable assets though at the moment. They are going to have to start fresh though, and get the fans to realise they're not the bigged up club they think they are anymore. I mean the only trophy in the last 50 years - Intertoto. And they were so ashamed of it, they presented it to a fan
May 5, 200916 yr I'd love to see Newcastle go down - simply 'cos it will be weird watching the classifieds and seeing them and Peterborough on the same page. Mind you, it's gonna be even weirder seeing Norwich, Southampton and Charlton on the same page as Wycombe and Exeter.
May 5, 200916 yr After watching Hull last night, I hope they stay up. They put up a fight, whilst watching the Middlesbrough, Sunderland & Newcastle matches, they were really hopeless and looked completely out of place. I think it will be the same 3 teams in there now, that go down.
May 5, 200916 yr Author Current form is the key. Hull, Boro and Newcastle are all doing desperately $h!te. One of Newcastle or Boro is definitely going down, but I seriously feel that if either team wins that 6 pointer next week then they may escape. The confidence and belief will be with them. Sunderland and Hull are in desperate trouble but they're lucky that the teams below them are also not picking up points. Saying that Sunderland have a very hard run in, but I still expect them to stay up. The key to it all imo is whose defence can stay in the best shape and not have defensive errors lead to the oppositon team scoring.
May 5, 200916 yr We have three tough, tough games coming up. Stoke at home is being pointed out as the big game, already sold out at many fans are talking about that as the game that if we win, we stay up. I think I draw would be a good result but then we'd need to do the same at Bolton which isn't going to be easy. I hold no hope for some last day miracle against Man United. I honestly think we'll stay up, not because of how well we're doing but because how poor everyone else is haha. A draw between Middlesborough and Newcastle next week would be an excellent result for us.
May 5, 200916 yr Words cannot describe how much I'd love to see Newcastle go down. But I still think they'll escape. 18 Hull 19 Boro 20 WBA ...would be my pick. The Villa goal was a mile offside against Hull on Monday though so if they go down by 1 point or less then they've definitely had their stroke of bad luck at the wrong end of the season..

Mind you, it's gonna be even weirder seeing Norwich, Southampton and Charlton on the same page as Wycombe and Exeter. I echo these sentiments. I LOVE the idea of Newcastle slumming it despite their perpetual delusions of grandeur. I also ESPECIALLY love the idea of Wycombe playing the likes of Southampton next year, my two home towns! Although it's not exactly a new thing for them; it wasn't long ago Wycombe did the double over Manchester City in the former Division 2.

May 6, 200916 yr I really hope Newcstle and Hull go down, I'll be gutted if it's Boro and Sunderland that join West Brom in the Championship next year. Hull really are a diabolical side, they got lucky at the start but really they're worse than everyone else in that league. Added to that Phil Brown is an utter moron and as a fan of a side in the Championship I think they're going to be the easiest team to win points against next season. They'll struggle like Derby if they go down. Edited May 6, 200916 yr by RabbitFurCoat
May 6, 200916 yr I echo these sentiments. I LOVE the idea of Newcastle slumming it despite their perpetual delusions of grandeur. I vividly remember when Leeds got relegated to League 1 in 2007. They were all like, "we'll be promoted by Christmas" (which was changed to Easter after their 15 point deduction). They're still in League 1, and will be in their third season in that league if they don't win the Play-offs.
May 6, 200916 yr Author Leeds being in League 1 is brilliant. 90% of their fans are deluded which I find even more brilliant. They still think believe they're a Premier League club. Whilst Newcastle fans are quite bad, no team compares to the dream world a lot Leeds United fans live in.
May 6, 200916 yr Here's hoping Millwall beat Leeds :heehee: Anyway, I do hope the current bottom three go down. I have quite the soft spot for Hull and Mykul wouldn't be best pleased if the Black Cats went down so...
May 6, 200916 yr Here's hoping Millwall beat Leeds :heehee: I think Leeds will win it over the 2 legs tbh, unless of course Millwall get penalties that they're allowed to retake 278 times until they finally score :) But whoever makes it, I hope they lose in the final to Scunthorpe :heehee:
May 6, 200916 yr The 5 bottom teams are terrible atm, can't win anything, It looks like they all have accepted relegation. If I didn't know differently Newcasle V Middlesboro would get nil points each. I can't see any of the bottom teams winning any match against any team outwith the bottom 5.
May 7, 200916 yr Newcastle going down will be almost as good as when Leeds were relegated to the third tier... in fact it'll probably be even better! Hull may as well go down cuz if they survive they're blatantly gonna come 20th next season and probably give Derby a run for their money with the least amount of points. Middlesbrough and West Brom are already down pretty much, and I actually think it might be Newcastle who join them. Sunderland should be fine now too and Blackburn and Stoke have garnered enough points to survive.
