Posted May 6, 200916 yr Back despite no demand, FSR Rontvia used to be quite the kings at predicting what song would be the dark horse of the contest, giving such accolades to tATu from Eledan and Beverley Knight from Qutosibb, both of which went on to win...then we went on to predict Dalisska to be the dark horse for about four contests on the trot and they still manage to criminally underperform in every contest :snif: however, the thread is back, who will be this month's 'Not A Love Song', 'Destroy Everything You Touch', 'Black Butta' etc...i.e. the song that comes from nowhere to roar into the top ten in the final despite being unfancied in the odds. My five contenders for the dark horse of XVI are as follows; > Eledan: Caroline Af Ugglas <> Snalla Snalla (if it somehow gets out of semi 2, it will do a LOT better in the final) > Fervorsoia: Da Buzz <> Alive (they did well before, and this sort of Swedish pop is prevalent in BJSC) > Lievant: Ultrasonics <> Go Electro (underrated and understated electro entry from an unknown but good British group!) > Angelicland: Flipsyde <> When It Was Good (RedOne has had success for Botannika and MKL but failed for others...this song is infectious enough to do well I think) > Simondly: The Noisttes <> Never Forget You (very pleasant and nice pop song, criminally low in the odds I think considering it is one of a few 'summer jams' in the contest :kink:) and the ultimate Rontvian dark horse tip for the top would be: > Angelicland: Flipsyde <> When It Was Good next comes the new 'favourite to fail' part of the thread, as every contest has a 'Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer', 'Headhunted', 'Love Etc', 'Superhuman' or 'Secrets'...so what one song currently doing really well in the odds do you see as a likely failure either to qualify or to do less well than expected in the final? I'll let somebody else answer this one first :kink:
May 6, 200916 yr I'm REALLY willing to put Kopecka as the 'favourite to fail' - I don't think people are putting Dead Disco high in the odds on merit, more on name value and the fact it's Kopecka :P Lievant and Angelicland have got to be the dark horses of this one!
May 6, 200916 yr I reckon JRK-Off are gonna SMASH this comp. 'Falling Down' is so fabulous, and a RedOne masterpiece :o

May 6, 200916 yr > Eledan: Caroline Af Ugglas <> Snalla Snalla (if it somehow gets out of semi 2, it will do a LOT better in the final) I have everything crossed for it 24/7 :D
May 6, 200916 yr Author I had considered the Flipsyde track, but decided not to go for it as I didn't want to use RedOne :heehee: I am in no doubt that it will do brilliantly though, if it had been the comeback single for Black Eyed Peas, it would be a worldwide No.1 smash hit *cue the 'but it's not so it won't be' comments* :kink:
May 6, 200916 yr The bloops and bleeps may prove too much for most I think for Dead Disco...the remix would be perfect if it wasn't for them! :snif: I think it'll qualify, just won't do as well as most predict...
May 6, 200916 yr I agree, I think Lievant are the definite dark-horses. Can't comment on Flipsyde as I haven't heard it yet.
May 6, 200916 yr Fave2fail: Numayania ( :snif: ) God I hope not  To be honest I would be happy to make the final though :) Personally for me, Kopecka look like failing, as Tron said, it's kind of too noisy for some people, but it could be Fortunia, I can imagine there being a bbacklash now... Ashton is clearly a MAJOR Dark horse. It's not just me surely?

May 6, 200916 yr I'm hoping FNT Nickodonia or Kylienips will be Dark Horses this month, though maybe they'll be the female indie-pop artists that will suffer from a big wave of this type of entry this month. :( I think a bit more realistically it might be Lievant, FSR Rontvia or Republique d'Ashton. As for the fave to fail, I'm tending to agree about Kopecka. I'm fond of the song myself (but not in the semi) but I don't think many people have said anything positive about it. You would have thought that a 12th for Video Villain (despite being quite 'marmite') and 2 top 5 + 2 top 15 results for Little Boots would have meant the sum of both parts were a guaranteed top 10.
May 6, 200916 yr Author I would love Alex Roots to be a dark horse do really well - sadly, I think it will qualify and come about 14th :( I'm sure Alex was quite high in my initial odds, I don't see her as a dark horse as I see her doing well already :heehee:

I rated the song highly when marking them (not saying how highly :kink:) but it could be a case of Little Boots fatigue if it doesn't do quite as well as expected...I know it's technically not just her this time but she has been sent too many times to this contest in quick succession, it feels a bit like the Little Boots/Veronicas song contest sometimes  having said that, if the song is strong enough to appeal to the masses then it will be fine ^_^
May 6, 200916 yr Land of Jack: 3OH!3 - Don't Trust Me Dark Horse Doesn't seem to be doing TOO well on the odds at the moment :o Not sure on "Fail2Fail" just yet...
May 6, 200916 yr > Fervorsoia: Da Buzz <> Alive (they did well before, and this sort of Swedish pop is prevalent in BJSC) Just heard this as the last song in Semi 1. "I'm alive, for the first time in my life"?! Honestly?! :heehee:
May 6, 200916 yr Author Just heard this as the last song in Semi 1. "I'm alive, for the first time in my life"?! Honestly?! :heehee: it's no less complex lyrically than some of the other songs that have done well in this contest :P
