Posted May 13, 200916 yr Has anyone seen this?! I only heard about it the other day off another forum (although, in fairness, it's most likely that Scott/anyone else has mentioned it on this part of the forum, and I'm just very unobservant haa). I just watched it and, my God, it's rather amazing. It made me feel a little bit sick in my mouth too, I love when films are able to do that [=.
May 14, 200916 yr I have not heard of this! Sounds really good though so shall have to check out! Also i have been meaning to ask but the picture in your sig reminds me of a film, care to remind me which one please? (apart from Catwoman/Batman )
May 22, 200916 yr I saw this a while back... It really is quite tense and genuinely disturbing at times.... It starts off like a "Torture Porn" flick, but then it goes off into very strange and totally unexpected directions... The ending seems a little odd when you first watch it, but when you watch the film again, it begins to make more sense..... Director Pascal Laugier definitely tries to do something different and unusual with the genre..... And for the most part, it works extremely well.....
May 23, 200916 yr I saw this late last year and I thought it was excellent. It is very different than most films out there and for the first half it kept me guessing what was going on. Then the movie changed its pace totally and even thou I do think the last third or so wasn't as good as the first half/two-thirds, it still was great. I guess that is all I can say about the film because this is one of those films that are way better to watch if you know nothing about it beforehand. I actually went to sneak preview where they had the director first telling a bit about the film and after the film there was a q&a session. I actually had to leave before the q&a since my sister had to catch a bus as soon as possible since she had to get up early next morning for work and there was no telling how long the q&a session would have lasted. Too bad thou since we both would have liked to hear what he had to say about the film. Anyways, I strongly recommend this film like I recommend two other French horror films, Haute Tension and Ils. Lately the only Franch horror film I was disappointed with was Inside. So, Martyrs is certainly a must-film to see for all horror fans and everyone who wants to have a great movie experience. April 21, 201213 yr This combines the nihilism of Irréversible or Enter The Void with the gore of the Saw series (I realise how laughable these films are after having seen this). The results are unbearable.
May 10, 201213 yr This is still very much stuck in my mind, weeks after watching it - it's very rare a film does that!
May 13, 201213 yr Such a disturbing film and it does indeed leave an impression on you for a little longer than you'd want it to. It's beautifully directed and shot though. It's definitely one that you don't want to watch, due to how disturbing it really is but at the same time you can't pull yourself to look away. It's strange.
July 15, 201213 yr my friend was trying make me watch this, but don't like disturbing horror like this, also serbian movie(should be another thread) also shares this shock cinema value...
