It`s called "Devil May Care". A bit of a drugs ring in this one. I could actually imagine Roger Moore doing the story in not only Bond, but also The Saint. The very reason he was cast as Bond, four years after he finished the Saint and a couple of years after "The Persuaders" of course. "Devil May Care" is published by Penguin books and priced £7.99. Written by Sebastian Faulks (writing as Ian Fleming). Giving another Saint connection, because Simon Templar used to use the name "Sebastian Tombs" as his nomme de plume. MAXIMO PARK will probably not even settle for 2nd place, as LILY ALLEN & LADY GAGA are neck and neck, Lily will get the #2 artist album, as MAXIMO PARK slip into 3rd place by then. All in a Combined chart, that is full to the brim with compilations yet again. On the JIM REEVES front...We are awaiting a re-release of "Welcome To My World". Yes, truthfully...There will ba a physical release of it. Currently relinquishing in an advert. This will tie in with the 45th Anniversary of Jim`s untimely passing in a private plane, flown by Jim (himself) and accompanied by business partner Dean Manuel. They were travelling to Nashville from Arkansas to secure a property deal. During a violent thunderstorm over Brentwood (Tennessee), Jim got very disorientated and actually flew the plane upside down, in order to combat the the storm, while increasing altitude. The one engined plane was found 42 hours later, with both Jim and Dean`s bodies buried in the plane`s wreckage, where both nose and engine hit the ground with the impact. In strange unhappy circumstances, Jim Reeves was trained by the same instructor as the man who flew the ill-fated plane of Patsy Cline & Randy Hughes...some 16 months before. Jim`s death actually occured around early evening on the 31st July 1964. Here come`s the Flashback...to May 1984. Judy Loe played wife "Alison Reynolds", and the missing hubby was played by Gawn Granger as "Jerry Reynolds". A repeat of "Porridge" beat Ronnie Barker`s/Ronnie Corbett`s new series/new credits of THE TWO RONNIES. Esther Rantzen was still pulling them in on Sunday nights with "THAT`S LIFE"...the weekly consumer show, that mixed true life stories with comic songs/odd looking fruit/newspaper print errors. "THAT`S MY BOY" was Yorkshire tv`s rather bad sitcom on Fridays at 8.30pm, starring Mollie Sugden (who later appeared in THAT`S LIFE) as a Mother who lives with her son and daughter in law. Christopher Blake and the actress Jennifer Lonsdale, played the son and daughter. It got even worse when it turned out the the Christopher Blake character "Dr Robert Price" had another mother in the series played by Clare Richards (she was the proper mother, while Mollie Sugden`s character was the adopted mother. Deddie Davies played Price`s secretary "Miss Parfitt"...and ITV managed to drag this nonsense out for 5 years! MIKE YARWOOD turned up on ITV for a while, after years at the BBC on Saturdays. Mike had a battling career combined with Alcoholism/Nerve problems...despite being the best impressionist tv ever saw. The late motorbiking ace, Barry Sheene teamed up with Kenny Lynch on ITV`s Saturday evenings with a kind of early version of "You Bet/Don`t Try This At Home"...in which people came on and did amazing stunts, such as jumping over buses/eating slugs and all that lovely stuff! TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED was originally written by the late Roald Dahl...but by 1984, the programme had a host of writers. It continued until 1988, by then most of it was filmed in the States. TOP OF THE POPS was introduced by the great twosome of John Peel/David Jensen this week, and the show opened with Eurovision UK flop BELLE AND THE DEVOVIONS performing LOVE GAMES. That year was the 29th Eurovision, held in Luxembourg. We came 7th, with just 63 points. The Contest was won by Sweden, and HERREYS (who sung DIGGI-LOO DIGGI-LEY). They got 145 points, as 19 Countries took part. Michael Parkinson hosted GIVE US A CLUE...the charades based celebrity game. The great Steve Jones ex-Radio 2 DJ, hosted the spin off of his 1980 show "The Steve Jones Game Show"...which was a re-working of Bruce Forsyth`s Big Night flop. Steve didn`t do so well on the Game Show either, but did much better when THE PYRAMID GAME was given it`s own 30 minute Saturday 5.45pm slot. Members of the public teamed up with celebrities such as Suzi Quatro, and Keith Barron and had to describe phrases/words to each other in order to play for a £1,000. Suzi Q got a lot of stick when she appeared on the show, for making little mistakes and dropping in the odd "F" and S**t words! WE GOT IT MADE was a U.S. sitcom, that BBC1 showed in a peaktime slot...also known as one of America`s worst shows! It starred the stunning Teri Copley as Micky McKenzie, who moves in with 2 bachelor fellas as a housekeeper...who also have 2 girlfriends. A kind of role reversal of THREE`S COMPANY/MAN ABOUT THE HOUSE becoming Woman About The House. The series did manage to run until 1988. Whether the BBC showed them all, is open to question. I believe it was shown at peak time because they thought it might do as well as TAXI had cicra 1979 - 83. World Snooker was still very popular, and Steve Davis was still around... The HUMAN LEAGUE sharing a title with a later DEF LEPPARD song. The League got stuck at #2 with this album. FOOTLOOSE was the big movie. No surprises, as BOB MARLEY took over #1 on the following week with the long running, well titled "Legend". ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN were doing well, but we didn`t expect them to hear them on Radio 2, and of course did not! THRILLER was still hanging about, forever it seemed. The super sound of those Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark continued. Why, they even had their own Carrier Bag in HMV...Landfilled sites ay! Tip: We have an incinerator in our house...the bags soon disappear! LIONEL RICHIE slipped with "Can`t Slow Down" after 3 weeks at #1, a similar story on the single front. The CURE smashed in at #9, but no higher. RUSH peaked at #6...If you ever get to see them live, don`t miss the chance. We all thought that QUEEN`s "The Works" was a #1, but the THOMPSON TWINS kept them off. Who else would call a LP "Bananarama", but BANANARAMA?! Everyone went out to get the HOWARD KEEL album...or not! This Warwick Keel`s LP featured lot`s of other people`s songs including the title track "And I Love You So". HOWARD JONES on the other hand had topped the chart for 2 weeks, with Human`s Lib. AGAINST ALL ODDS was the Soundtrack LP. JOE JACKSON had a great album, but failed to make the top ten and peaked at a disappointing #12. DURAN DURAN were up and down all over the place with "The Ragged Tiger", but they only peaked at #2! "Alchemy"..the DIRE STRAIT`s record was a Live recording that had peaked at #3. Even DURAN DURAN did not manage it! Unfortunately QUEEN could not break #3! As the POINTER SISTERS went over them with "Automatic". BOB MARLEY certainly was charging up, but "One Love" peaked at #4. FLYING PICKETS covered the MARVELETTES 1967 hit, and took it into the top ten. DENIECE WILLIAMS had a lot in common with KENNY LOGGINS because "Let`s Hear It For The Boy" also featured in FOOTLOOSE. The HUMAN LEAGUE could only get a #11 on the Official chart, here they got "The Lebanon" to #8. A similar thing for BELLE AND THE DEVOTIONS...Official #11, MRIB #10. PHIL COLLINS surprisingly fell from 1 to 11...and Officially peaked at #2. JOCELYN BROWN only peaked one position higher at 12. Pigeon English from JULIO IGLESIAS teaming up with WILLIE NELSON...Good job Enrique speaks better English! The SOS BAND did the original of that 1990 cover, again peaking higher on MRIB. NEW ORDER also peaked higher, Official 18, MRIB 13. STATUS QUO even entered much higher, even getting airplay on Independant Radio. The THOMPSON TWINS achieved their biggest hit. MARILLION entered and peaked the same week. The BLUEBELLS were "Falling", on which I thought was so much better than "Young At Heart". ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN only peaked at #30 Officially...and got a MRIB #8! NIK KERSHAW brought on the "Dancing Girls", as he waited for the rerelease of "I Won`t Let The Sun Go Down On Me". TERRI WELLS originally worked with CULTURE CLUB..."I`ll Be Round" was a soul classic, which was covered very well. WOMACK AND WOMACK sprung in...LINDA WOMACK is the daughter of SAM COOKE...She married Cecil, to have all those hits. HAZELL DEAN kicked off her career in the 70s, not doing very well. Her hits came courtesy of Stock, Aitken, & Waterman. The SMITHS teamed up with SANDIE SHAW on "Hand In Glove". ALVIN STARDUST returned to the charts. "I Feel Like Buddy Holly" was penned by MIKE BATT...and was made a hit with the help of Radio 2, who actually first featured it as "Guess who the singer is", in a competition run by DAVID HAMILTON on his drivetime show in April 1984. ROBIN GUTHRIE & WILL HEGGIE teamed up with vocalist ELIZABETH FRASER and became the COCTEAU TWINS (they formed in 1979), hailing from Grangemouth in Scotland. If you lived in the Crawley area in 1984, you would remember BILLY JOEL`s "The Longest Time" became a jingle for the "Timbo Show" on new station Radio Mercury. THE IMPOSTER was the assumed name for ELVIS COSTELLO, and he got 2 single hits under that name...both were deleted in a few week`s of release. BREAK MACHINE followed up "Street Dance" in similar vein with "Break Dance Party". LOOSE ENDS, EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL, EDDY GRANT, and ORANGE JUICE graced the top 50 with minor forgotten pretty good tunes...My major favourite was certainly MATT BIANCO`s "Sneaking Out The Back Door, With A Grin". It should have been as big as "Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed" easily...When things are going wrong, you can always find me sneaking out the back door, with a grin! Maybe it was just to good for Radio One, although much played on Fab Radio 2 at the time. The Radio 2 line-up in 1984 was Ray Moore, Terry Wogan, Jimmy Young, Steve Jones, Gloria Hunniford, David Hamilton, and John Dunn...those were the days, and the weekends with Keith Fordyce on the original Sounds Of The 60s...losing out in the London area to ALAN FREEMAN (smashing the London listening figures for Saturday mornings with "Pick Of The Pops-Take Two"...Alright, not `arf!! On Radio One, Sundays was the big day for "Jimmy Savile`s Old Record Club"...he got 13 million for that every Sunday lunchtime. The top 40 was on it`s last legs with SIMON BATES at this point, but still pulling in over 14 million listeners. Simon always said he did not enjoy doing the show, for having to stick to playing records, that he didn`t actually want to play. We were only a few months away from Capital launching the Network Top 30 a la DAVID "THE KID" JENSEN...then things changed forever, as RICHARD SKINNER took over Radio One`s top 40. Whilst awaiting the up to date singles charts, here come the top pre-orders... If I do include them, Dizzee Rascal still beats the Black Eyed Peas. Flo Rida`s "Sugar" would slide in just above those Pet Shop Boys. Ones to watch are SHINEDOWN & "Second Chance" released 15th June, DATAROCK "Give It Up" released 15th June, and the physical release of DEMI LOVATO on 1st June, and don`t forget JIM REEVES. Will it happen? DIZZEE RASCAL will almost certainly let BLACK EYED PEAS have just one week at #1... May 15, 200916 yr Pet Shop Boys are doing very well on pre-orders. Where would you say it's likely to chart when released? I'm not expecting it to do much, but I think it's their best single in years.

Also without downloads alone are 38 Madness, 39 Steve Angello, 40 Kid Cudi. = Position on Chart Show tv. Some info was missing here, but I have updated now (8pm, Friday). BLACK EYED PEAS crash in, and sell 20k more than Tinchy...clearing a grand 66k, up to this point. Outside the 50 is TAYLOR SWIFT on her Guitar, DEMI LOVATO is 52...then it`s EMPIRE OF THE SUN, JAMES MORRISON, MADNESS, STEVE ANGELLO, and PAPARAZZI is 57. Tom will be pleased to hear that JADE EWEN is 63...DIZZEE appears again, with "Fix Up Look Sharp" in the top 75, along with BEYONCE "Diva", oh and MCFLY. We expect LENKA "The Show" to appear in the top 75 shortly too. On the download only chart...the top 20 is basically the same apart from Ciara, and A R Rahman/Pussycat Dolls (who swap places)...As Richard Clark should reveal on the top 10 downloads on Sunday. NOTE: These charts are not Official. They are based on Chart Show tv`s, but without airplay plus added sales info. The Chart Show Video chart can been seen Saturdays between 9-10.30am, and Sundays 11-12.30 (Sky Channel 365, Freeview 500).
May 15, 200916 yr Author Pet Shop Boys are doing very well on pre-orders. Where would you say it's likely to chart when released? I'm not expecting it to do much, but I think it's their best single in years. It is likely to go low top 20, based on the pre-order info.
May 15, 200916 yr Author Thanks Dave Any idea where the Eurovision compilation is on the albums Dave? Also where did The Smiths peak on MRIB with Hand In Glove? That didn't chart at all on the official chart IIRC, only the Sandie Shaw cover a couple of years later... Tom K A top 35 position for the Eurovision Album. On the Sandie Shaw front...I think that the MRIB chart just credited the single to the Smiths (Although it was indeed Sandie, herself). Hand In Glove peaked at #29.
May 15, 200916 yr Thanks Dave! Good news for the PSBs Thanks for the jade update Dave. Glad that it's unshakably top 75. Do you think with her pre-orders she has a shot at top 10 next week?
May 15, 200916 yr Author Thanks Dave! Good news for the PSBs Thanks for the jade update Dave. Glad that it's unshakably top 75. Do you think with her pre-orders she has a shot at top 10 next week? You saw the Fresh Hits Chart midweek, but it will probably be a bit different come tomorrow...as the midweek edition does favour the physical. But following the contest, and the fact that she has been to 22 on HMV Downloads, I would say she will definately make the top 20, if not the top 15.
May 15, 200916 yr Author I have updated the 37-50 because I was missing some info...So, we now have Eminem in the 40 with "Beautiful", and Bill Withers falls out...with KOL back in, again. Katy Perry may well be in the 40, by Sunday. So, we may get a wapping 4 new entries (shock/horror)!!! With a push, it could be 5...if Hilson, West, & Ne-Yo push forward.
May 15, 200916 yr Author Thanks Dave! Any difference to Jade :kink: In a word...No! But on average she is travelling at about 5 positions a day. So, she will be heading towards the top 60 at any rate. For instance on the mids today, she was 69. This evening 63...so it`s ok.
May 15, 200916 yr Cool. So, top 40 is unlikely this wee, but as long as she's top 75, and hopefully above #67 (last year's peak for Andy Abraham) then I'm happy :D
May 15, 200916 yr On the Sandie Shaw front...I think that the MRIB chart just credited the single to the Smiths (Although it was indeed Sandie, herself). Hand In Glove peaked at #29.I used to have the single and there's no Smiths credit at all, on either the cover or the record itself. It's a bit strange that MRIB credited it to The Smiths. Here's the cover: http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=118 The catalog number is Rough Trade RT130 with The Smith's original being RT131. Perhaps MRIB just combined sales of both versions? I've often wondered - for whom were MRIB compiling their chart at this time? Record Business had closed the previous year and the Network Chart was 5 months away. Terri Wells - I wasn't aware that hse had worked with Culture Club. Are you not thinking of Helen Terry who sings on Church Of The Poisoned Mind? It was about this time in 1984 that I saw the Cocteau Twins live in concert (April 19, to be exact). They were without any doubt the worst act I've ever seen in concert! There was no atmosphere and the audience were pretty bored after half an hour. At the end the band refused to do an encore and Liz Frazer then told us all to "f**k off"!
