Obviously I’m ecstatic that Kelly Clarkson is flopping! B) Just proves MLWSWY getting to No1 was a fan base fluke, with the second lowest sales for a No1 this year… ^_^

Totally blasé to release Since U Been Gone part III; it thoroughly deserves to miss the top40! :D

^Just don't listen to him. :)

whenever i see shikari, i think of shakira

I first thought the name was a rip-off to Shakira.

I don't think 'My Life' making #1 was a "fanbase fluke" either, if so where were they when 'Never Again' was released? And why is the song the 17th best selling single of the year so far? It's just because there was nothing else at the time to keep it from #1, it was still a major smash.
OMG! :o I never though I'd see Enter Shitari (How ORIGINAL of me :heehee:) have another Top 40 hit

Indeed I did not include them amongst my Prediction Game songs, as I suspected they would struggle to go Top 75.

Their 5 singles to date have "charted": #151; #166; #27; #75 & #80 respectively. Hence I did not think their latest would be a Top 40 smash hit on Sunday. But apparently Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills has been heavily promoting the track in an ironic "see I don't like just like Euro-Dance-Pop cheese" way.

Max Martin / Dr Luke didn't write Never Again...

Hence it got to #1 based on the quality of the song .... which contradicts your earlier post that it got to #1 because of the size of the fanbase ;)

Max Martin/Dr Luke’s fanbase. ;)

So if My Life was SUBG Pt II and Hook Up is SUBG Pt III, and My Life was a hit because of the Dr Luke 'sound', why would Hook Up not be?

So not Kelly's huge fanbase at all then ... ;) Although I'm sure you'll claim from the context of your original post on the matter that you weren't referring to Kelly Clarkson at all when talking about any fanbase  ;)

Indeed. I'm not a big Kelly Clarkson fan but I thought her transatlantic #1 hit single was deserved because it was a killer new wave power pop anthem in the tradition of old classic power pop tunes like The Cars' My Best Friend's Girl; Cheap Trick's I Want You To Want Me; The Knack's My Sharona; etc.

In contrast I Do Not Hook Up sounds like a reject from a debut Katy Perry album IMHO. Hence I think it is very mediocre.

If Kelly Clarkson had such a large hardcore fanbase like Ethan claims then IDNHU would hold up well in the charts like a 3rd single from a Girls Aloud album always does.

Although I Do Not Hook Up is written by Katy Perry, Ethan you need to stop posting things to create arguments otherwise your precious itunes thread might be closed.

Did you know it actually is a Katy Perry song? One Of The Boys session.

That's coz it basically IS a Katy Perry reject :heehee:

However, Kelly's version is far superior to Katy's IMO.

Kelly should have gone with 'Don't Let Me Stop You' as second single :(

It’s debateable whether IDNHU is a good sound alike but logically speaking why would a song not written/produced by Max Martin/Dr Luke perform as well as the two that where?

Hook Up is miles better than Suck which I don't think has lasted well at all actually... it should've been lead (though that sounds ridiculous when Suck was such a smash, obviously). She has that rare problem of having too many potential first and second singles!

If it was a clone as you stated then it would perform as well regardless of the producer... the public don't think "Ooh, Dr Luke, must buy!".
