Come to the conclusion I don't like the way Alex sings in the verses... sounds like he's trying too hard imo. Although everything that i've heard about Humbug thus far makes reference to the fact that Alex experiments with his vocals a lot in the new album.

#41 on iTunes...

I think it's a bit rubbish tbh. :(

Gotta say i'm gobsmacked it's at #7 already! :| Didn't expect it to climb this fast AT ALL. But i'm very pleased.

The pop bars between #6 and #7 look a bit big, but I think Arctic Monkeys could quite easily be #1 by the the end of tonight which is mad.

Arctic Monkeys released their comeback single in the early hours of this morning (July 7).

'Crying Lightning' is the first track to be taken from the Sheffield quartet's third album 'Humbug', which is not released until August 24.

The song became available as a legal download via services like iTunes at midnight after it received its first radio play on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show and on NME Radio.

Speaking about the song Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner told Lowe: "This was deemed the best signifier of the record. It was a favourite during recording."

He added: "We've enjoyed making it ['Humbug'] more than the other two put together. It does really feel like we're getting somewhere."

The track will be physically released on August 17, though it can also be heard now Zane Lowe's blog below.

LYRICS

Outside the café by the cracker factory

You were practicing a magic trick

And my thoughts got rude, as you talked and chewed

On the last of your pick 'n' mix

Said your mistaken if you're thinking that I haven't been caught cold before

As you bit into your strawberry lace

And then a flip in your attention in the form of a gobstopper

Is all you had left and it was going to waste

Your past times, consisted of the strange

And twisted and deranged

And I love that little game you had called

Crying Lightning

And how you like to aggravate the ice-cream man on rainy afternoon's

The next time that I caught my own reflection

It was on it's way to meet you

Thinking of excuses to postpone

You never looked like yourself from the side

But your profile could not hide

The fact you knew I was approaching your throne

With folded arms you occupied the bench like toothache

Stood and puffed your chest out like you never lost a war

And though I try so not to suffer the indignity of reaction

There was no cracks to grasp or gaps to claw

And your past times, consisted of the strange

And twisted and deranged

And I hate that little game you had called

Crying Lightning

And how you like to aggravate the icky man on rainy afternoon's

Uninviting

But not half as impossible as everyone assumes you are

Crying Lightning

Your past times, consisted of the strange

And twisted and deranged

And I hate that little game you had called

Crying Lightning

Crying Lightning

Crying Lightning

Crying Lightning

Your past times, consisted of the strange

And twisted and deranged

And I hate that little game you had called

Crying

The video for 'Crying Lightning' should be with us within the next few weeks as well... definitely before the end of July.

Hmm. It's okay. It sounds like 'What if You Were Right First Time?' time to me. I'm disappointed.
