JLS 'miss out on making chart history'

JLS have missed out on making chart history after a blunder by the Official Charts Company.

The group were expected to make their debut in the Top 10 with two songs - single 'Beat Again' and B-side 'Umbrella' - but the latter has since been deleted.

The Rihanna cover, which was originally at number eight in the midweek charts, has been removed from later updates and referred to as a technical error.

The Official Charts Company claim that the song is sold as part of the 'Beat Again' download bundle and therefore exempt from inclusion on the countdown.

JLS fans have since descended on the group's message boards to complain about the blunder.

According to midweek sales figures, 'Beat Again' is expected to top the singles chart on Sunday.

There was obviously something up with it as it was far too high in the mids in comparison to where it was on all download sites. It should certainly be allowed to chart but i doubt it'd be too far into the top 40.
I'm still confused though at the Umbrella sales.

Me too. It still doesn't make sense.

Same here, if a sale is a sale it should chart, or else where will the sales go

It says in that DS thing. They are counting towards Beat Again

It says in that DS thing. They are counting towards Beat Again

But that's wrong, I downloaded Umbrella on its own. Without BA.

I didn't buy BA, so why should the sales go to BA when I had no interest in it as I didn't buy it? (Although I did download BA from another site)

They can't be going towards BA, that is pure stupidity

Agree, I don't believe they're going towards BA. That would just be complete nonsense.

Totally wrong.

Remember Leona Lewis' single Better In time was together with Footprints in The Sand. Footprints had downloads sales (mainly the album version, or some people have separately downloaded the song), and it counted separately from Better In time and it charted.

OCC has for some strange reason disqualified Umbrella although imo it should chart with its download sales separately but it won't. That means those sales are not lost and not added to Beat Again, those sales are disqualified.

You can't compare Better In Time/Footprints with BA because that was double a-side. But you can use Bleeding Love and Forgivenneess

That does seem silly, I remember Leona's B-Side Forgiveness made the top 40 in Ireland.

Oh yeah, that might be wrong.

Ireland is a different country with different rules to the chart though. You can't compare with the UK charts.

Digital Spy just copying what The Sun article said.

I'm still lost as to whats going on. If you can buy Umbrella seperately on its own why on earth should it not be able to chart on its own?!

maybe they counted the people who downloaded the both songs together seperately to begin with (which was why Umbrella was at 8)

but now when someone buys the single bundle it goes towards Beat Again but if you buy Umbrella seperately it will count it's just not high enough....

just a suggestion

The sunday's chart thread is open shortly. This is closed ;)
