oh dear, ageism in the BBC is a bit of a hot topic at the moment so shifting Jo Whiley to weekends won't look good at all...

Not reall y the same here. Radio 1 has a remit set by charter to broadcast for a core age group:

"The remit of Radio 1 is to entertain and engage a broad range of young listeners with a distinctive mix of contemporary music and speech. It should reflect the lives and interests of 15–29 year olds but also embrace others who share similar tastes."

It's been argued for a couple of years that two middle-aged broadcasters in Whiley and Bowman talking about their children doesn;t do this, and is perhaps part of the reason for the average listening age for Radio 1 rising.

On the preseenters themselves I think Bowman was long overdue a move as she clearly doesn't like pop music, so it was strange she had such a promient slot where she had to play it, and dislike this crept too much into her broadcasting. Whiley's a better broadcaster by far but was getting stale.

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reggies better on his own so it should be a better show

The thing is: they've been introducing "guest presenters" lately, haven't they... Charlie Brooks from EastEnders, Michelle whatshername from Coronation Street. I can only see this trend continuing, unfortunately.

This is a good move by R1 Fearne Cotton was utterly useless at doing the chart show and always was, she talked too much about completley stupid and pointless things that had nothing what so ever to do with charts. Reggie isnt too bad, especially if he is on his own. If they are gonna have guest presenters why dont they have pop stars, after all it is a chart show, can't see the point in having soap stars co-presenting a chart show, that is just dull!

Disappointing to hear that Jo is moving from weekdays, it's the only show I listen to on Radio 1 now, but I'll give Fearne a chance. Shame that Moyles is staying :(
Sad to see Fearne go from chart show but to be honest I don't think Reggie will last long doing it by himself. They'll have robots doing it soon. I say bring back Top of the Pops!
Speaking of TOTP when are the other specials coming?

Yep, I wouldn't be suprised if this was the case -_-

Oh, i might actually start listening to the Chart Show now that Fearnne is moving. On the nagative side of things, why giver her a better slot! I much prefer Jo Whiley to Fearne, very very stupid decision there. Shame about Edith aswell, i quite like Greg James aswell, so im not too fussed. But on the whole yeah, bit dissapointed they've shafted Jo & Edith.

Fearne is f***ing horrendous. She's not a DJ. She just yappers on about useless $h!t. Terrible move by R1.

There's been rumours of Jo Whiley leaving for ages. Wouldn't suprise me if she asked to be moved tbh. Glad to see Greg James get a good slot, but his and Scott Mills' style is very similar so idk.

Can't believe Fearne though. Hopefully she'll pack up and leave soon though as she's awful.

I'm quite happy Fearne left the chart show.

Reggie on his own is actually alright and I don't mind the guest co-hosts.

Glad Fearne is getting the chart show boot, but replacing Jo Whiley with her is horrendous. She just constantly yaps about random and uninteresting stuff, and has almost 0 variety on personal music taste unlike Whiley.

Glad that Greg James replaces Edith though, much better. Now get rid of Moyles and I'll be happier. Never gonna happen :(

1) I DO NOT get all the Fearne hate on this site at all :/

+1.

She's never bothered me at all, so all the sheer hate bemuses me.

The show doesn't need guest hosts, I rather have more music than listening to yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap

Jo & Edith have moved to the weekends!! NO! I listened to them all the way through school/college. They had brilliant slots. I don't want Ferne presenting the Live Lounge! That's an insult

they probably will- its a shame because it adds nothing to the show

Charlie Brooks basically did nothing on sunday and i found her a pointless addition

I don't mind the moves. I like Jo and Edith but they are the two I could do without, the others make me laugh and smile along. Would have preferred Sara Cox in Jo's slot (ooh er), but Greg James very much deserves a more prime slot, so great move!

Dev must be happiest - got promoted to this station in the weekend breakfast slot two weeks ago, now he's got the main one!

As much as I like Fearne, I don't think she's suited to the chart show very well but is good on other shows. She's better than clueless Reggie though, I'd rather he'd have left than her.

Well we virtually agree about something! :cheer:

I agree with all your points, although I'd like to add ..... Fearne Cotton as a DJ is absolutely awful period, she is far better suited to being less annoying on TV. I wish the BBC had got the brilliantly opinionated (like the marmite Chris Moyles) but with excellent knowledge of a large variety of music (like Jo Whiley) George Lamb as her replacement. Now during weekdays we have to put up with the Radio 1 playlist and Emo & US Disney Rock being rammed down our throats, whilst she natters vacuously about what she has got up to. :puke:

At least Jo Whiley (whom used to be a booker for The Word TV show & Later with Jools Holland in the early 1990s) discovered interesting new acts (in recent times Amy Winehouse, La Roux, Florence + The Machine, Siobhan Donaghy, Marina & The Diamonds, VV Brown & Frankmusik; as well as being prepared to play the latest non generic dance record or more interesting urban acts like Jasmine Sullivan and Melanie Fiona before Radio 1 ignores playlisting them).

Greg James in an excellent young DJ, the only problem now being that he perhaps too similar to Scott Mills. So for them to run back to back on the Radio 1 schedule could backfire on the pair of them.

But hey why should I really care, I'm so say out of their listening range so I really should be pensioned off to listening to Radio 2 (who's playlisted have gone downhill fast since Lesley Douglas resigned as Controller in 2008, new Controller Bob Shennan background from current affairs Radio is definitely having an adverse effect); or the excellent Radio 6 Music.

As much as I like Fearne, I don't think she's suited to the chart show very well but is good on other shows. She's better than clueless Reggie though, I'd rather he'd have left than her.

This week she said that the album at number 3 was down 7 places.... Then, just a few minutes later said that Jordin Sparks won American Idol with 'Battlefield'. She's truly horrendous. I don't like Jo Whiley, but it's an insult to replace her with someone as ghastly and clueless the bandwagon jumper Fearne...
