If there's an odd number of participants, you need three autoqualifiers otherwise you have to have uneven semis - which is unfair on those drawn into the alrger semi as they have less of a chance of qualifying merely because of the luck of the draw. I'd personally much rather see only Tom qualify but people seem to be in favour of more unfairness re: autoqualifying, oddly enough. I think if you pass up hosting you should pass up the perk that comes with it, but eh.

 

This has been my thoughts. Just look at the most famous competition going: Football World Cup.

 

The only nation that pre qualifies for the next tournament/contest are the hosts. The winner (unless they are the next host) always has to pre qualify.

 

With this contest getting bigger and bigger I think it is important to keep the number of auto-qualifiers to a minimum from a fairness point of view.

oh, and we did have an uneven semi a couple of contests back when Liam was disqualified, making it marginally harder for people in the other semi (the one I was in :snif:) to qualify
