Wow at the Jeremih cover being in the top 100, it would probably be a good idea for his management to release his single now to avoid a 'I Kissed a Girl' situation. Great for Kristinia though!
RADARS UP TO 49#

:)

Yes, come on Radar!!

This is has gotta go Top 40!! At least if she makes Top 40...we can show Britney that the British have a better peak than the US and that we love her more.

Gosh loads of females not doing well atm. Shontelle, Ciara, Lily Allen (Though its still got time), Britney & Taylor :o.

Simple:

1. iTunes is not the only download music service available.

2. Chris Moyles promoted through iTunes on his Radio show as that is the one that updates most regularly, and has the most significant UK market share (c.70% of the market). For example on Amazon it is only currently #22.

3. On iTunes and most music sites I Made It Through The Rain is only available in one format, as an album track on his 2008 Music Music Music album, so it has probably sold less copies than a number of tracks on Itunes close to it on the chart like When Love Takes Over, Paparazzi, Boom Boom Pow, Battlefield, etc including versions that are not in the Top 100 so cannot be included in the combined comparison.

4. A recent market survey showed that the biggest day of the week for download sales is Sunday, hence selling zero on a Sunday, put the song at a pretty big disadvantage to start off with. That is why in the midweek Top 40 for Tuesday that is why Sean Kingston is at #40 despite being currently #22 on itunes; whilst the likes of Eminem - Beautiful; Flo Rida ft Nelly F - Jump; Little Boots - Remedy; an P!nk - Funhouse are not in the midweek Top 40 even though they are in the iTunes Top 40, Because they are playing catch up, but unlike John Barrowman they have had a running start with some sales on Sunday even though they were not of significant quantities to make the aggregate Top 40 at the moment.

5. Take Sales Week ending 05/07/09 - For the sales available The #10 song sold just under 21.5K. Yet sales for the #32 song were 11.7K so less than 10K separated the #10 and #32 song. Hence the #10 song sold less than double the #32 song. When you account for Sunday always having significantly bigger sales day for downloads than Mondays (circa by 20-25%) and knowing that John Barrowman's track was not selling until Chris Moyles hyped it on Monday morning then it is very easy to see why it was only #30 in the first set of midweeks.

Example:

Record A: Sunday: Ave #30 + Monday: Ave #30

Record B: Sunday: Nowhere + Monday: Ave #10

Using the extrapolation above

#10 21.5 / 7 = 3.07K

#30 11.7 / 7 = 1.67K

So if you account for the greater sales on Sunday at as an example 1.275

Then:

Record A Sales: (1.67*1.225) 2.046 + 1.67 = 3.716

Record B Sales: 0 + 3.07 = 3.07

6. On today's show they asked how long it takes for the iTunes chart to update, and the consensus of the texters said its chart is a rolling 48 Hours (thanks to Chris Moyles.net forum for that info - as I have that show as my alarm at 06:35 Hrs, as I hate that "Good Morning On The Chris Moyles Show" cheesy intro it gives me a great incentive to wake me up and get up and at the very least change the dial on my midi hifi.)

I'm sorry but from that it looks like you're arguing my point. Sunday sales do NOT matter. If, as you say iTunes is a rolling 48 hour chart then a song at number 1 is the song that has sold the most over the last 48 hours, the song at number 2 has sold the second most copies in the previous 48 hours. The song at number 10 has sold the 10th most copies over the past 48 hours. It doesn't matter how long it's been available for. If John Barrowman were at 10 on a rolling 48 hour chart then in the past 48 hours it would've sold more than the song at #11 did in the previous 48 hours. So it sold as many on Monday alone as the song at #11 did in Sunday and Monday PUT TOGETHER! Therefore it doesn't matter that sales for Sunday are higher because it matched them on Monday.

Only it didn't, because it's not 48 hours and most of your arguments would be how I'd prove it's a 24 hour rolling chart!

I think britney will peak after her relasese

It's not surprising when you look closely, Shontelle and Taylor are both following on from their last singles which were major flops, Britney's is the 4th single which has already appeared on two studio albums and radio have shunned Ciara.

LOL that was not difficult to guess as she just entered the official chart at number 71 and she's climbing this week on iTunes, so she will be lot higher. BTW Radar is released this week as a download only.

Shontelles last single didnt flop it just didnt do as good as others. And i ment by britney is that i think shell peak in like 3 weeks times

I didn't mean they're flopping. Just some of them just not doing as well as expected than people think.

Exactly. You have proved my point!

That is why the Arctic Monkeys did not peak on iTunes until late on Wednesday evening, even though they sold far more copies on their iTunes exclusive release on Tuesday (4.6K), than they did on Wednesday (2.9K) because iTunes operates obviously operates a rolling 48 Hours chart.

But let's get back to Barrowman and use your theory and sums.

A 48 hour rolling chart means that by Monday Barrowman had sold at least as many as the song at #11 did Sunday & Monday combined.

3.07k per day for a number 10 record as you suggested. Factor in your extra Sunday figure of 1.225 gives 3.76k. Add on just under 3k for Monday (as sales are lower) gives around 6.5k sales for the number 10 record, which looks correct. Given iTunes counts for around 65-75% of all sales the song at number 10 on iTunes on a Monday night will have sold 4.55k on iTunes alone in the previous two days. Number 10 was John Barrowman so by your own calculations and your own method John Barrowman sold over 4.5 singles to be at number 30 midweek. Even if we say that he had a much higher proportion of its sales off iTunes than average (say as high as 90%) that would still give him another 500 sales to add to give him 5k sold by Tuesday.

Yet he appeared at #30, but a #30 sells between 10-12k per week, so a 5k+ figure seems far too high for a song at #30 to be at.

Instead, use figures for iTunes as a 24 hour rolling chart. John Barrowman would've sold pretty much 0 copies on Sunday, then on Monday it sold enough to be #10 on iTunes. Mondays sales for a #10 will be around 3k, given you said Barrowman was selling disproportinately high on iTunes it probably sold between 2.2 & 2.5k, a figure which I think is far more realistic for a #30 Tuesday midweek!

TBH you can't really use the Tuesday figures because there are always some missing data (that happened to Mr Hudson last week too).

Plus when was exactly the Chris Moyles show? I can imagine people were rushing at that time to download the song so about three or four times more people downloaded it at that time than the number 1 single on iTunes.

That was just a small addition, nothing to do who's right.

It is a 48 hour rolling chart, it does sound quite obvious :S

We've had many examples in the past. If it was a 24h rolling chart, big hyped/awaited tracks like the last AM song would have dropped on Itunes on day 2 of its release, because as it's been said it did sell a lot more on day 1 than he did on day 2.

I can't believe how many songs are now 99p. why people use itunes still is beyond me

Sub Focus and MSTRKRFT top 40 :cheer:

Can't believe how well Sub is doing... I knew this would be a hit! Other A-Side Follow The Light top 300 too, brill. Hope Sub makes top 40 on Sunday but I reckon he will stall at around 50.

Madina Lake and The Blackout are also both top 300 (Blackout re-entered), two brill songs :D
