Friday 21st Aug...another selection of those charts.

If we take Stephanie`s kids books out, the more adult chart brings in That`s Another Story at 8 by Julie Waters, Starting Over by Tony Parsons at 9, and Folly by Alan Titchmarsh at 10. I remember Alan`s early Sunday morning show, back in the 70s on Radio 210! Always find Alan boring in real life, let alone the books. His knowledge of the garden is excellent, though.

Time for the Flashback to August 1981:

The Top TV, back then (Note: The last 5 months figures for 1981, were never kept in the archive, and the top 10s were individual of BBC1, and ITV)

ITV`s Top TV:

01 CORONATION STREET (MON)...Coro, was pulling in around 14.5m during the Summer of 1981

02 CORONATION STREET (WEDS)

03 WINNER TAKES ALL (FRI)...Jimmy Tarbuck/Geoffrey Wheeler with the Betting based general knowledge quiz at 7pm

04 A SHARP INTAKE OF BREATH (FRI) David Jason in the 4th and final series of the sitcom about the bungling adventures of the accident prone Peter Barnes. During this series David was seen walking with a limp...Rather like the character in the show, David had chop part of his big toe off with a lawn mower!

05 SEAGULL ISLAND...A drama, set in Italy about a woman who goes there to visit her blind sister. When she gets there, her sister has mysteriously disappeared

06 CROSSROADS (MON)

07 THE BIG TOP (WEDS)...A variety show with the late comedian Bernie Winters/Schnorbitz (his dog) and late french singer Sasha Diste at 8pml

08 THE KRYPTON FACTOR (WEDS) Gordon Burns with the 5th series of the brain and braun superperson game at 7pm

09 CROSSROADS (TUES)

10 QUINCY M.E. (MON)...THe U.S. Patholigist turned Detective series. Wasn`t strange how Quincy`s fishing trips never got off? Jack Klugman was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1989 and lost a vocal chord. During his run of "The Odd Couple" with Tony Randall, he appeared on the U.S. "Blankety Blank", known over there as "Match Game". He approached bosses to let his wife (the late Brett Somers) appear on the show. Coincidently during some Flashback shots on "The Odd Couple", his son (Adam) appeared as the character "Oscar Madison" as a child.

The Top TV (BBC)

01 IT AIN`T HALF HOT MUM (THURS)...The dodgy concert party sitcom set in Burma, along with Windsor "old shut up" Davies, Don Estelle, and Melvyn Hayes

02 NINE O`CLOCK NEWS (MON)

03 GAMBIT...TV version of Nero Wolfe`s mystery book. Arsenic cocktail served up in a chess club...everyday events then!

04 NINE O`CLOCK NEWS (TUES)

05 SUMMERTIME SPECIAL (SAT)...A re-worked 80s version of Seaside Special from Brighton and Eastbourne. This one featured the Nolans

06 TOP OF THE POPS (THURS)...Jimmy Savile introduced the show at 7.20pm

07 CITIZEN SMITH (THURS)...A repeat of the 4th and final series, that UK "GOLD" never show...Why?

08 THE MONDAY FILM (MON)...Rather limited here, it doesn`t even say what film it was!!!

09 THE GOOD OLD DAYS (THURS)...Leonard Sachs and old time music hall with John Inman on top of the bill

10 NEWS AND SPORT (SAT)

ITV re-packaged "KENNY EVERETT`S VIDEO SHOW" for the States. Unfortunately the racey sites of Hot Gossip had to be left on the cutting room floor. Oh, how clean-cut those yankees are!

I do wonder if Buster Bloodvessel is still running a B&B somewhere  ;)

Kim Wilde was rather fit in those days  ;) I had a massive crush on her. I was gutted when Kids In America never made #1

Tainted Love, Vienna and Love Action, my favourite singles of the year, along with Kids In America.

And finally one of the best Bond Themes -> For Your Eyes Only

oops one last thing I just remembered a controversial video for Girls On Film for Duran Duran, with 2 girls in a Boxing ring  and loads of bare flesh ;)

It looks like Booty Luv - Say It will flop :o
Hopefully, 'Say It' won't flop. :(

TBH Say It isn't their best imo. I loved Shine and Boogie 2nite

LOL I would say Birthday sucks :D

Well (for me), I always get socks on my birthday!

All this reminded me of a certain edition of "That`s Life" circa 1984. On the streets Esther Rantzen asks "Do you where socks in bed?" To which, some clever old bloke replied "No, I wear condoms!"

Just as I predicted Esme will peak at #6 someone is going to eat humble pie. :D

All this reminded me of a certain edition of "That`s Life" circa 1984. On the streets Esther Rantzen asks "Do you where socks in bed?" To which, some clever old bloke replied "No, I wear condoms!"

That's a blast from the past  I can just remember that episode, Personally I would have said BIRTHDAY CAKE

The Top Albums in Aug 1981: With the 2nd of 4 weeks at the top for ELO, as Cliff wouldn`t go away after 4 weeks there himself! Ever bound Meat Loaf too...

13 17 THIS OLE HOUSE - SHAKIN`STEVENS

This is about to appear on CD later this year! A very small number were pressed in the late 80s but it is extremely hard to come by now. From around the middle of October it will available as part of a 10CD box set which will have 9 of his Epic albums - including bonus tracks - and a CD of extended versions. Much of this material was only ever available on vinyl and cassette until now.

That`s good to know. It seems when ever there is an 80s retro show on the Radio, they always play the obvious ones. I mean you never hear Teardrops, A Little Boogie Woogie, Give Me Your Heart Tonight etc. Which is a shame because Shaky did some great songs away from This Ole House, and You Drive Me Crazy.

woah aliens in the attic has outsold bandslam in the box office.

i didn't see that coming.

19 43 THE THIN WAR - ULTRAVOX...The Biggest Climber, but couldn`t match "Vienna"
