February 9, 201015 yr how can you like such great film movements such as film noir yet think avatar is great just because of visuals and story etc doesnt matter. Exactly what I was thinking.... Just a slight contradiction there.... The best Film Noir is a perfect marriage of imagery and brilliant, labyrinthine storylines.... Example of a Classic - "The Big Sleep" Example of a Modern Noir - "Memento"
February 9, 201015 yr Exactly what I was thinking.... Just a slight contradiction there.... The best Film Noir is a perfect marriage of imagery and brilliant, labyrinthine storylines.... Example of a Classic - "The Big Sleep" Example of a Modern Noir - "Memento" I think the term is 'neo noir' not 'modern noir'. talking of which, I think The Last Seduction is quite good.
February 9, 201015 yr I just watched Princess Mononoke yesterday and just realized what a triumph of a film that was compared to Avatar (which clearly stole a lot of its concepts / storyline). That movie had such heart to it. <3 Avatar was a bit of good, mainstream Hollywood fun, nothing more.
February 10, 201015 yr Still haven't seen it yet, but am hoping to go and see it on Monday (in 3D) for my friend's birthday party :)
February 11, 201015 yr There is a lot that is frustrating about Avatar, chiefly that Cameron clearly didn't listen to anyone after Titanic and essentially made all the same mistakes over again. But I would defend the point of view that visuals alone made this film enjoyable, and maybe even one of the best of the year (perhaps not top 5, but high). And I do admire Cameron's extraordinary attention to visual detail, whether the precise design of the fixtures on the Titanic or the creatures on Pandora. But I too wish that he would give the storyline and script their due attention. I had hoped that Avatar would be more like 2001 than Titanic.
February 11, 201015 yr how can you like such great film movements such as film noir yet think avatar is great just because of visuals and story etc doesnt matter. and on note of film noir, Double Indemity  im no film buff.... i dont like modern films ... i love classic film noir, avatar took my imagination, it hooked me (somewhat against my will) via the visuals. cant really explain, its just how it is.
February 11, 201015 yr im no film buff.... i dont like modern films ... i love classic film noir, avatar took my imagination, it hooked me (somewhat against my will) via the visuals. cant really explain, its just how it is. Yeah, the "Bliss Out" effect.... Know all about it having studied film-theory... The rather "narcotic" effect that some films have by virtue of what they present on screen to just numb your brain, and purposefully elicit certain kinds of emotional responses... The fact that many people are actually becoming depressed by the thought that the real world is nothing like Pandora stands as evidence of that theory, the amount of Avatar online forums as well is more evidence... Is it not a little like "withdrawal" symptoms...??
February 11, 201015 yr But I would defend the point of view that visuals alone made this film enjoyable Yes, and we're going back to the visuals again aren't we...? Well, I mean, the Japanese can make absolutely extraordinary Anime/Manga, and have been doing so for decades... Difference is, there's a lot more to those films than meets the eye.... Ghost In the Shell for example is littered with deep, meaningful philosophical themes, everything from Sartre to Descarte to Plato to Philip K Dick.... Cameron doesn't even have a fraction of the intellect as Mamuro Oshii (Ghost in the Shell and Avalon) or Katsushiro Otomo (Akira, Memories, Roujin Z, etc....) and he proves it in this film where he just regurgitates everything he's done that WAS good in the 80s and 90s and makes a complete mockery of it..... The Japanese Manga and Anime-makers went into the 21st Century with Sci Fi (as did the makers of District 9 and Moon), whereas most of Cameron's ideas belong in the last century.....
February 12, 201015 yr I went to see it on Wednesday. Visually it was stunning. And I'm glad I saw it for the 3D experience. But..... I was a bit bored after about an hour. And I thought the plot and acting was dire. A bit like Titanic. All style and no substance. Cinema was absolutely packed so it's obviously still packing them in. :D

'Yeah, visually stunning....BUT.....'
March 12, 201015 yr 'Avatar' could be heading back to the cinemas later this year. James Cameron has revealed he’s planning to blast the sci-fi movie back onto the big screen, complete with all-new footage. Despite 'Avatar' becoming the most successful film of all time, there is a feeling it could have made even more money if it hadn’t been pulled from a number of 3D screens to make room for Disney’s 3D version of 'Alice in Wonderland'. Director Cameron is said to have around 40 minutes of cuts that didn’t make the final film, including one action scene showing Jake Scully proving himself to the Na’vi tribe, reports Reuters. Cameron told USA Today, “The wildcard is that we might be re-releasing the movie this fall [autumn]. It's kind of gotten stomped out because of Alice in Wonderland. "The word we're getting back from exhibitors is we probably left a couple of hundred million dollars on the table as a result. The question is, is the appetite still going to be there after the summer glut of movies? We're going to assess that. We're talking about maybe adding in additional footage and doing something creative." Cameron is also hoping to re-release 'Titanic' in 3D in 2012, to mark the 100th anniversary of the ship's voyage.LOL at the bottom sentence! :drama: Nice thought, but please no!
August 1, 201014 yr So this is being released towards the end of August (according to my cinema's show guide thing). It includes about 8 minutes of new footage and will be a "Special Edition Release" in 3D. I am really looking forward to finally seeing it in 3D! I watched it the other month on DVD, and I liked it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would, but I just have to watch it in 3D as I think it will use the 3D to maximum effect.
August 1, 201014 yr wow 8 whole more minutes. thats really worth paying the cinema price if you saw it before.
August 16, 201014 yr Hi, This movie is really a nice movie and I had watched this movie so many times. This movie is fully animated 3D movie which is really an appreciable movie.I had never seen this type of movie uptil.
