Same, I think I mostly put it at #1 because I couldn't have "New In Town" top my chart and "Remedy" not too. Plus, I saw Beverley live again on Thursday, so she was bound to go up again. I liked the old version, but this one is only slightly more than average, it could grow, I just don't find it worthy of reaching #1 officially. It's not taking much to enter my chart right now anyway, I feel like the top 11 should be in my top 5 at least, while the bottom 11/12 are pretty much dead wood. I find the cover disappointing if I'm honest. I'm not a fan of the original anyway, so it was always gonna be hard for Mariah to convince me but she's not really doing that right now. She whispers most of it and only gets to the good bit at around the 3 minute mark, 38 seconds before the end. Just as I'm getting into it, it ends abruptly. :nocheer:

September 6, 200915 yr Same, I think I mostly put it at #1 because I couldn't have "New In Town" top my chart and "Remedy" not too. Plus, I saw Beverley live again on Thursday, so she was bound to go up again. I liked the old version, but this one is only slightly more than average, it could grow, I just don't find it worthy of reaching #1 officially. It's not taking much to enter my chart right now anyway, I feel like the top 11 should be in my top 5 at least, while the bottom 11/12 are pretty much dead wood. I find the cover disappointing if I'm honest. I'm not a fan of the original anyway, so it was always gonna be hard for Mariah to convince me but she's not really doing that right now. She whispers most of it and only gets to the good bit at around the 3 minute mark, 38 seconds before the end. Just as I'm getting into it, it ends abruptly. :nocheer: how was Beverley? I like both versions although the demo means more to me personally :lol: I'm loving the music of 2009, I'm having to reject about 15-20 tracks from my chart each week for lack of space, although I do include album tracks/foreign singles etc...so there's more to choose from and less deadwood I guess I like the Mariah cover but I've always hated that song too...I do like the arrangement she's done with it, but her vocals seem a bit timid like you say, she's clearly past her best vocally :( I don't know why it ends so suddenly either...on the plus side I heard it on the radio the other day already so it's obviously going to pick up more support than Obsessed did, from commercial radio at least

Saying that, she's definitely someone that you just HAVE to see live. She's like a fireball on stage, you'd go to take a photo of her, but by the time the camera has taken the photo she's moved out of shot. She, of course, does the ballads as well but she's such an energetic performer that you'd find it hard to leave feeling disappointed. I believe she's in Brighton on tour the day before I go. :kink: Yeah, I like the demo a lot more, weird how minor changes can make such a difference. Oh I agree, I think my chart runs are generally shorter than last year, and more songs are peaking lower than they should, but it's a bit quiet at the bottom end for me right now. It's a bit of a shame really, though I've seen that the album version is possibly 4:27, so we might get an extended end if it's not a typo. ^_^ It's not really a surprise they love it, the original likely still gets a lot of airplay on things like 'Heartbreakers' or 'Club Classics' on things like Heart. :lol:
