I don't know, I think she'll do Debut TV this year & do a 10 year anniversary edition of Reputation next year with the vault tracks before taking a well deserved break. Then she'll come back start of the 2030's with a brand new album which will be her 13th overall & I'm sure she'll want to do something big for that!

I'm starting to think that the encore is going to be leading into Debut TV somehow. Listening to all 4 songs in order, it sounds like she's working her way back to the beginning: Patient Zero - Tortured Poets Department/Midnights encoded Cleveland! - Very Lover-lite Pink Clouding - Synth pop, very 1989/Red TV (Message In a Bottle) Babylon - Could easily fit the Fearless/Speak Now eras That will then lead into Debut TV nicely as she will then be at the start & where it all began.

After repeated listens, I've actually come to like all the songs on this encore - including Cleveland! Yes, we know she can do so much better but generally, these songs are just as good as some tracks on previous eras & would easily find a place on past albums of hers.

That's why she should take a folklore approach to songwriting in the future. Doesn't necessarily have to be the same sonically but I mean in terms of fairytale storytelling where she creates stories instead of using her life experiences all the time. She can still do that whilst creating some fun, catchy pop songs or delving into more folk style music. Take 1989 for example, the song All You Had To Do Was Stay was a song about a relationship drifting apart but it still had that catchy beat to it. But I agree, she's much better when she's heartbroken, got alot of angst or been through a bad experience.

That's why Taylor's Lover album hits harder than The Life Of A Showgirl. Although she was happy in her life during the recording & release of Lover, her lyrics weren't pushing that narrative so hard. We still had those deep meaning songs such as Afterglow, The Archer, Lover as well as the fun bops in ME!, You Need To Calm Down & The Man. The Life Of A Showgirl is a solid album in parts but it just feels a bit clunky with no song that hits you as hard as the Lover tracks, other than The Fate Of Ophelia & possibly Opalite. That's what I mean by artists need to put a bit more oomph into some of their tracks whilst also having those singer-songwriter type tracks which have that more personal connection with the fans. As mentioned above, ADÉLA is proving you don't need to be all personal & upfront in your songs to get a hit. They just need to find that balance.

That's why the world seems so gloomy nowadays. Music use to lift people's spirits & put them in a good mood but the current trend, to me, puts more people in a negative mindset.

I just feel that artists need to take a few more risks & not follow the trends. Just imagine how big Ariana's comeback would have been if she had released another Into You type single as the lead with a big singalong type chorus. Or if Taylor had released a full on Max Martin bop similar to Style. Artist's need to stop following what's big & take their own paths & aim to set the next trend.....just like Lady GaGa did in 2008/2009! Not saying that they have to stick to their previous sounds but they can learn to expand on it & obviously as they grow, so should their lyrics go show maturity. Sticking to the formula works for someone like Adele who takes 5+ years to release a new album but if they are going to be constantly releasing, they need to stand out from the crowd & not release the same dreary music.

I'm starting to think we're going to start seeing these level of streams & 2005 - 2007 level of sales in the chart again on a permanent basis soon. I think now that more of the matured generation are starting to stream, nostalgia is going to become more prominent in the years to come & newer music will just be a second thought. It doesn't help that even the biggest of artists nowadays - Taylor, Ariana etc are releasing more mundane style of music & has seem to have forgotten how to make a upbeat, catchy pop song. Where are the songs like Shake It Off, Blank Space, Ready For It? Etc from Taylor & songs such as Break Free, Into You, Greedy, 7 Rings from Ariana? I just don't know why artists like making "Radio 2" style of music all of a sudden when in the earlier part of this decade, we had loads of upbeat pop songs....Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa & Little Mix in 2020 for example.

Sometimes, I wish she never released these Taylor Versions of her past albums as they would have made a good base for some completely new studio albums. The vault tracks on Red TV would have made a brilliant album & all she had to do was craft a handful of new tracks to make a complete album. The 1989 vault tracks could have also been a great base for a brand new album.

I think for her next album, she needs to experiment with a different sound or go down a similar route to I Knew It, I Knew You but with a mature outlook as it wouldn't obviously be tied to a Disney/Pixar movie. Maybe she could take some inspiration from Ella Langley & return to a her actual country routes.

I feel that all four tracks could easily belong to other eras as well. Patient Zero could easily fit the vibe of both Reputation & Tortured Poets Department. Cleveland! wouldn't feel out of place on the Lover album next to London Boy. Pink Clouding is definitely screaming 1989 synth pop vibes. Babylon, I feel, could slot into Speak Now quite easily as well. If all tracks from Life Of A Showgirl were individual tracks on different albums, I think they would sound much stronger as a whole, some even being stand outs on those perspective albums. I just don't feel that the tracks showcase the theme of the album other than the Life Of A Showgirl track itself.

After a few more listens, I am actually really liking the song, as well as the other 3 tracks. I think Pink Clouding s definitely the best & Cleveland! is certainly number 4 but all of them actually sound very good after repeated listens. I can see Patient Zero doing similarly to Fortnight! & Pink Clouding becoming a decent sized hit, similar to Karma or I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.
