December 21, 20168 yr some good songs in those sections, I'm looking forward to what you loved this year though (even if I can probably guess which band will take your #1 :kink:)
December 21, 20168 yr Cody's Radar: Ones To Watch 2017 (Collection 3) Little Mix - "Touch" Robin Schulz & David Guetta f/Cheat Codes - "Shed A Light" Listen here! Robin Schulz never disappoints with his songs, so to have David Guetta working with him is a double whammy. Robin even made a Cheat Codes song sound bearable without the absurdly high burn rate. Yes! I love both songs so much. I think Touch will be the first 2017 UK number 1 and Shed a Light will finally debut in the top 40 next year. :cheer:
December 21, 20168 yr Author some good songs in those sections, I'm looking forward to what you loved this year though (even if I can probably guess which band will take your #1 :kink:)I can guarantee that the love chart will begin sometime after the last chart of the year (which is the Christmas chart on Friday) Depends on when I finish the next three sections of this thing
December 22, 20168 yr Shed a Light is great, a real grower for me :music: Touch is quite catchy as well!
December 22, 20168 yr Author Shed a Light is great, a real grower for me :music: Touch is quite catchy as well! Both of those played on Spotify while I was playing Rocket League at the mall yesterday, it was an experience
December 22, 20168 yr Author Cody's Trash: The Worst of 2016 *because one man's trash is another man's treasure... and vice versa* This... was a hard section. Despite the rest of 2016 being objectively crap (and that's just the eight weeks of normalizing an Oompa Loompa as an American president), music has somehow gotten a whole lot better than previous years. While I could think of a bunch of songs (hell some years ranged to over 50) that I hated with all my heart, this year I couldn't think of half as much. Maybe I'm just more welcoming to music, maybe my tastes are devolving, or maybe artists themselves are either not making deplorable trash (Florida-Georgia Line) or shoving good but generic songs down our throats (but that seems to be the problem these days). So I'm gonna be doing this section a little different. There were 20 songs that I objectively hated and I'm just gonna fire them one by one later, but first I'm gonna give a "Shout Out To My Ex"-style shout to the songs that I liked but then got killed due to overplay or some other reason. qloZFpaNBsQ So shout out to these songs that had absurdly high burn rates: - Shawn Mendes - "Treat You Better" *sighs* Unfortunately. I actually still tolerate this song. It's not as boring as "Life Of The Party" which is still the worst song to spawn from him. Actually it's only here because I liked it, but it never itself became a moment unlike the three singles of his that came before it. People like Shawn need to have certain moments that augment the song's satisfaction level. "Something Big" was because Shawn made something more upbeat and full of life, "Stitches" surprised me with hooks galore and a meaningful message, and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" was mainly for Camila's overdramatic delivery. Hell, even "Mercy" had a moment because it's pretty much a mood board for every human being towards 2016. TYB never had that. I got into it during premiere, somehow forgot about it because I got away from pop radio for a bit, then started liking it a bit more and then overplay killed it before it reached that moment. It had a meaningful message (anti-domestic violence/treating women with respect), but did I have to wait until the video to realize it? So that's why it's there. I guess the only reason why I liked it in the first place was because it was basically a clone of "Stitches" (which I ADORED), but I'd rank it a 7/10 now. Drake - "Controlla" Listen here! It gets an overwhelming amount of hate, but the song was been a bit meh anyway and didn't really have the catchiness of "One Dance"/"Too Good" and the triple single thing kinda killed it for me. It seemed to get old pretty quickly and I was bored of it after three months and I had only listened to it like six times during those three months. That's why it feels weird. It also has a pretty odd structure, which would normally work for me ("Work" had a pretty weird structure and it made the song), but it never really went anywhere and that's what makes it underwhelming for me. Kent Jones - "Don't Mind" Listen here! This is the one song that I thought I would like because it's structure is VERY novelty and that normally gets a lot of hate in this forum but a lot of ironic love from me, but what keeps it from getting to where "Watch Me" was is that there wasn't that much of a novelty feel to it. It just looked like it was a weird song trying to be serious. And I also hated "Broccoli" and "Juju On That Beat" so maybe the novelty effect doesn't work as much anymore? Idk. Let's see where "Black Beatles" and Aminé's "Caroline" goes before I make assumptions about my taste. Maroon 5 f/Kendrick Lamar - "Don't Wanna Know" Loved it at first, it was pretty fresh and new for them, it sounded like a DJ Snake production, scraped the lower end of the top 30 for me and then... it was played about 300 times a day on radio and I quickly got bored of it. The same thing happened with "Sugar" and other M5 songs that I hate more than these two. It's still a 7.5/10 for me but the fact that it was about a 9/10 for me lands it here. And the award for highest burn rate for a song goes to... Cheat Codes & Kriss Kross Amsterdam - "Sex" I had really high hopes for both songs. "Visions" and "Adventure" were BJSC potentials of mine. And but KKA was amazing. But then this came out and for some reason I wasn't feeling it like a lot of the grinding song remakes. There wasn't that special something that gave the former songs an edge. Trevor's voice just didn't do it for me this time. I tried to like it. But it just didn't go anywhere. Also shout out to "Let It Go" and HBTR by you-know-who because somehow they became hits in the US and I'm sitting here questioning my fellow Americans. Though they've made a BUNCH of questionable choices lately so I'm not surprised.
December 22, 20168 yr Don't Wanna Know is horrendous, I like the others though  Treat Me Better is definitely weaker than Mercy, IKWYDLS and especially Stitches though!
December 23, 20168 yr Author Cody's Trash: The Worst of 2016 *because one man's trash is another man's treasure... and vice versa* Now for the 20 worst! *side note: Joseph and Harry, I apologize for the savagery that may be happening here.* - 20.) Reggie N Bollie - "New Girl" We don't need another OMI sorry 19.) Pitbull f/Enrique Iglesias - "Messin Around" I think I'm kinda glad I expunged this from my memory because this is Pitbull's laziest song yet. 18.) The Vamps f/OMI - "I Found A Girl" Is this why I can't get into "All Night"? Come on, this is pretty childish. 17.) Brantley Gilbert - "The Weekend" WE DIDN'T ASK FOR ANOTHER BRO COUNTRY SONG BRANTLEY 16.) Tom Odell - "Here I Am" Why did you tease all your haters with "Magnetized" which was actually a tolerable song and then go back to releasing dull generica? If you wanted to win over new fans you shouldn't have made a move into insomnia cure. 15.) James Bay - "Best Fake Smilel" Not even the upbeatness could save it. It's so average. 14.) Drake - "Summer Sixteen" Listen here! What the hell is this song's purpose? 13.) Lawson - "Money" SUPER average. Next. 12.) Sam Hunt - "Make You Miss Me" If you want to make me miss you, you can try to make good songs? That live version also isn't helping your case. 11.) Matt Terry - "When Christmas Comes Around" Matt, you're lucky you're cute. Couldn't even make it past a second. I just KNEW this was going to be nondescript. Can we stop giving X Factor UK winners the bottom of Ed Sheeran's toilet and give them something that will actually build their career?! 10.) Luke Bryan - "Huntin', Fishin' and Lovin' Everyday" Ladies and gentlemen, the most generic bro country song ever to exist this year. 9.) Tom Odell - "Wrong Crowd" I'm sorry, but how do you become more boring that you've already made yourself to be? 8.) Nelly - "Die A Happy Man" Listen here! The Thomas Rhett version was actually decent. This was an abomination. And usually it's the other way around. Nelly can't do country to save his life. 7.) John Newman - "Olé" Was Calvin high trying to get over Taylor when he OK'd this idea? John Newman bleating on a reggae track is just the weirdest juxtaposition. It's like cranberry sauce mixed with Pepsi. 6.) James Arthur - "Say You Won't Let Go I tried to give this a listen. It just doesn't work for me. The prospect of this being bigger than "Shout Out To My Ex" is borderline offensive. 5.) Drake - "Fake Love" Listen here! Why the hell is he screaming? Is he trying to be Lil Jon? 4.) D.R.A.M f/Lil Yachty - "Broccoli" A novelty song but it isn't novelty. It's actually a serious track. Now that's the worst kind of crime. 3.) Jacob Sartorious - "Sweatshirt" Whoever said it was a good idea for musical.ly stars to start music careers needs professional help. NOW. 2.) Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall - "Juju On That Beat" Oh hell f*cking no. This was one dance craze that was NOT supposed to happen. And the worst offender is... 1.) Calum Scott - "Dancing On My Own" The most boring thing to ever occur, butchering a really good song in the process. And no, hating on this song does NOT make you homophobic. It means your senses are fully functional and you actually believe that this is the most boring dirge there is. If this becomes a hit in the US, I give up. Although I'd like to see the Trump administration's reaction. q31tGyBJhRY

December 23, 20168 yr I am not here for Tom Odell, James Bay, The Vamps, James Arthur and Calum Scott hate :nono:
December 23, 20168 yr Agree with Drake and the American rap, but there are other songs on here I actually quite like, namely Here I Am :(
December 25, 20168 yr Some pretty awful stuff in that hate chart, I don't actually mind DOMO but it's been so overexposed it warrants its position. Sweatshirt can't be taken seriously really, nor can Juju but I do actually like that song. Broccoli is definitely the worst "hip hop" song of the year.
December 27, 20168 yr Fantastic Hatechart #1, although I have to admit I may or may not have just watched Calum's BGT audition and enjoyed it a few minutes ago :heehee: Regardless, the studio version remains stale and massively overplayed - you're so lucky you didn't have to endure it on Radio every five seconds in the US  Juju being high is also good to see as it is totally horrendous, and although Sweatshirt is terrible lyrically and vocally, it is quite cute and catchy in places :heehee: Looking forward to your Lovechart, hoping to see lots of TOP rather high :D
December 29, 20168 yr I don't like most of the hated ones but Calum first (I have to admit that the studio version a bit boring and more if you compare it with the live performances) :(
December 29, 20168 yr Thumbs, Make Me (cry), Zaylor & Thumbs are my highlights from your ones to watch, all fab tracks  A heck of a lot of crap on that top 20 hate list! I actually don't think I like one of them as well! Yasss at that Calum horror topping also!
December 30, 20168 yr Author This will be continuing forthwith! (especially now that I'm not as sick as I was two days ago) Thanks to everyone for the support! I am not here for Tom Odell, James Bay, The Vamps, James Arthur and Calum Scott hate :nono:I said I was sorry :(Agree with Drake and the American rap, but there are other songs on here I actually quite like, namely Here I Am :(A lot of the urban tracks that have been released are serious songs that try to add novelty which I'm not here for unless they work. "Black Beatles" manages to make it work for example. Some pretty awful stuff in that hate chart, I don't actually mind DOMO but it's been so overexposed it warrants its position. Sweatshirt can't be taken seriously really, nor can Juju but I do actually like that song. Broccoli is definitely the worst "hip hop" song of the year.Theyre still horrible songs though. Can't believe Jacob is releasing an EP I agree so much with Luke Bryan and Nelly :puke:Thank GOD Nelly came out with "Millionaire" or else I would have probably been put off by him. Fantastic Hatechart #1, although I have to admit I may or may not have just watched Calum's BGT audition and enjoyed it a few minutes ago :heehee: Regardless, the studio version remains stale and massively overplayed - you're so lucky you didn't have to endure it on Radio every five seconds in the US  Juju being high is also good to see as it is totally horrendous, and although Sweatshirt is terrible lyrically and vocally, it is quite cute and catchy in places :heehee: Looking forward to your Lovechart, hoping to see lots of TOP rather high :DSadly "Dancing On My Own" is looking to take off in the US :(
December 30, 20168 yr Author Part 2: I don't like most of the hated ones but Calum first (I have to admit that the studio version a bit boring and more if you compare it with the live performances) :(It's honestly so boring. I'm also kinda ticked off that the US has to wait FOREVER to let this track take off while I already despise it so much. Thumbs, Make Me (cry), Zaylor & Thumbs are my highlights from your ones to watch, all fab tracks  A heck of a lot of crap on that top 20 hate list! I actually don't think I like one of them as well! Yasss at that Calum horror topping also!I feel like our tastes have been in sync other than you hating 50% of music released today but maybe it's the year gap more than anything. And the fact that today's music has gotten a lot better than previous years.
December 30, 20168 yr Author The Best Music Videos of 2016 This has been the year where there haven't been many music videos that blew me away, but at the same time the ones that did were exceptional. As always, these are not in order until we get to the top 2, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. - L D R U f/Paige IV - "Keeping Score" KDv8Qu8S7ac This video probably gets the award for most trippy visuals. Sorry Zayn. Not that I expected any less from future bass songs but still. I remember checking it out around the same time I started taking off in Australia and I was pretty hooked, and then I saw the video and honestly, the video kinda took me back to the epileptic Zedd video days. Justin Timberlake - "Can't Stop The Feeling" ru0K8uYEZWw Of course I expected a song as fun as this to have a video as fun as this! There's something about the video filter that also accentuates the retro-ness of this song but yet makes it look as current as it is. I love the added bits of extras just dancing and it kinda shows that anyone can have just as much fun as JT himself. Lindsey Stirling - "The Arena" 4MCjU-Du3eI I was very unaware that Lindsey can smash the ballroom, let alone smash an Argentine Tango with DEREK-FREAKING-HOUGH. Like honestly, how can you not like this girl after ALL THAT? Zara Larsson - "Ain't My Fault" eC-F_VZ2T1c I actually find Zara's moves and persona throughout the whole video to be reminiscent of early 2000's Britney/Christina/hell even Jessica Simpson in some places. In a way it's encompassing the evolution she has shown from the grooviness of the "Lush Life" video to her coming out swinging with this. It all says "I ain't f*cking around, get in formation bitches" and I LOVE IT. Britney Spears f/Tinashe - "Slumber Party" 2RRY3OVqtwc Honestly I think if Britney came around and used some of that footage for a new perfume line, I would not at all be surprised. The aesthetic, the elegance, the youthfulness of the entire video... it just SCREAMS perfume ad. That said, it lands among Britney's best videos to date not for being campy (although it definitely is), but for making you want to party with Britney and "Tinasha".
January 1, 20178 yr Britney's and Zara's videos  Zara's is iconic for this gif alone tbh  Justin's and Lindseys are really good too!
