July 9, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts: Florence eyeing first singles chart-topper Source: MW 16:15 | Wednesday July 11, 2012 By Paul Williams Florence + The Machine could be heading to the top of the UK singles chart for the first time this weekend after opening up a narrow lead over Maroon 5. The Island act’s new single Spectrum, which was 104th on last Sunday’s chart, currently commands a lead of around 3,000 sales over Maroon 5’s A&M/Octone/Polydor track Payphone, according to the Official Charts Company. Florence’s highest chart peak on the countdown up tol now is two, achieved in 2010 with the Dizzee Rascal collaboration You Got The Dirtee Love, while individually the act’s peak is five, achieved with You Got The Love the year before. Florence heads what is otherwise another fairly quiet week for the singles market with most of last week’s Top 10 shuffling around. As Payphone featuring Wiz Khalifa dips 1-2, although with every chance of regaining its lead by the end of the week, fellow Interscope/Polydor release This Is Love by will.i.am featuring Eva Simons holds at three, RCA’s Chris Brown drops 2-4 with Don’t Wake Me Up and Warner Bros’s Stooshe remain at five with Black Heart. At this stage of the week, Flo Rida’s Atlantic single Whistle is down 4-6 and Asylum/Black Butter’s Rudimental with Feel The Love featuring John Newman drops 6-7, while Virgin’s Katy Perry progresses 9-8 with Wide Awake and the Parlophone-issued Princess Of China by Coldplay and Rihanna drops 8-9. Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj is shaping up for a third UK Top 10 in her own right with Pound The Alarm climbing 16-10 with sales up 75%, while RCA act Adam Lambert is showing up as a new entry currently at 13 with Never Close Our Eyes. The only other brand new entry among the Top 40 sellers at this stage is Columbia act The Vaccines’ No Hope at 30. Lambert’s second album is one of six brand new releases among the Top 10 artist sellers at this point in the week. His former Billboard 200 chart-topper Trespassing is currently ranked seventh, while Ugly Truth/RCA’s Newton Faulkner leads the market with his brand new third album Write In On Your Skin. His debut Hand Build By Robots topped the chart in 2007, while 209’s Rebuilt By Humans reached number three. Faulkner leads an all top three of new entries with the first album from BBC Sound of 2012 nominee and Warner act Lianne Le Havas’s first album Is Your Love Big Enough second and The View’s first Cooking Vinyl album Cheeky For A Reason third. Their last album Bread And Circuses, released by 1965/Columbia, reached number 14 last year. Def Jam/Mercury’s introductory Frank Ocean album Channel Orange is showing up as a new entry at six, while veteran Canadian rock band Rush’s new Roadrunner album Clockwork Angels is new at 10. It debuted and peaked at two last month on the Billboard 200 chart. Completing the current Top 10 sellers, Maroon 5 dip 2-4 with Overexposed, Chris Brown tumbles 1-5 with Fortune, Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran is down 4-8 with + and Emeli Sande’s Virgin album Our Version Of Events falls 5-9. Outselling all artist albums at the moment is Now That’s What I Call A No 1, the new EMI TV/UMTV compilation issued this week to coincide with an ITV1 series celebrating 60 years of the UK singles chart. July 9, 201213 yr Author Midweek Charts Update: Ocean looking to make charts splash Source: MW Friday July 13, 2012 By Paul Williams Frank Ocean’s debut album Channel Orange has emerged as a late challenger to top the UK artist albums chart this weekend after closing the gap on leader Newton Faulkner. The New Orleans singer-songwriter’s Def Jam/Mercury album was showing up as a new entry at six on midweek sales on Wednesday, but two days later it has moved up to two, cutting its sales deficit on the number one from 43.6% to 21.9%, according to Official Charts Company Data. Ugly Truth/RCA act Newton Faulkner continues to head the market with newly-issued Write It On Your Skin as he seeks out a second chart-topping album. However, by the end of business on Thursday it was fewer than 3,000 sales ahead of Ocean’s album, while Warner Bros act Lianne Le Havas’s debut Is Your Love Big Enough is currently third, making the entire top three new entries. Two other brand new albums are among the Top 10 sellers at this stage of the week with The View’s first Cooking Vinyl outing Cheeky For A Reason sixth and RCA act Adam Lambert’s Trespassing 10th. A&M/Octone/Polydor’s Maroon 5 album Overexposed is down 2-4 and RCA act Chris Brown’s Fortune drops 1-5, while the rest of the Top 10 at this point are heading down with Asylum/Atlantic act Ed Sheeran’s + falling 4-7, Emeli Sande’s Virgin album Our Version Of Events slipping 5-8 and the Sony-handled Graceland by Paul Simon moving 6-9. Island act Florence + The Machine’s Spectrum continues to hold a narrow lead at the top of the singles market with the A&M/Octone/Polydor-issued Payphone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa little more than 3,000 sales behind in second place, having returned to number one last Sunday. Interscope/Polydor’s This Is Love by will.i.am featuring Eva Simons holds at three as Don’t Wake Me Up by RCA’s Chris Brown drops 2-4, while Warner Bros’s Stooshe remains at five with Black Heart in the latest Sales Flashes. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Friday Update Top 39 Only Singles 1 Florence + The Machine (3k ahead) 2 Maroon 5/Wiz Khalifa 3 will.i.am/Eva Simons 4 Chris Brown 5 StooShe Top 10 10 Nicki Minaj [PTA] Top 15 15 Adam Lambert Top 20 18 Nicki Minaj [starships] Lady Antebellum Top 30 David Guetta/Chris Brown/Lil Wayne 30 Jessie J [Domino] Top 40 Skrillex/Sirah 32 The Vaccines LMFAO [sAIKI] Rizzle Kicks [MDTH] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Newton Faulkner (3k ahead) 2 Frank Ocean 3 Lianne La Havas 4 Maroon 5 5 Chris Brown Top 10 6 The View 10 Adam Lambert Top 15 Ben Howard Top 20 Rush Top 30 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 24 Katy Perry Keane Top 40 David Guetta Lady Antebellum Florence + The Machine NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles Coldplay & Rihanna 5+3 Katy Perry 5+4 Cheryl 10+2 Rihanna [WHYB] 10+6 Paloma Faith 20+3 Rita/Tinie 20+7 The Wanted 20+8 Emeli Sande 20+9 Albums Emeli Sande 5+3 Lana Del Rey 10+3 Adele [21] 10+4 Rihanna [TAT] 10+5 Paloma Faith 10+10 Jessie J 20+1 Nicki Minaj 20+5 Kelly Clarkson 20+7 One Direction 20+9 Cheryl 30+3 Olly Murs 30+4
July 9, 201213 yr Florence + the Machine's Spectrum should be Top 5 for Tuesday's midweeks, but not number one.
July 9, 201213 yr I think it will be #1 on Tuesday mids if we get any. Whether it gets the official #1 just depends on its progress throughout the week. I think if it can build up a respectable lead at #1 on iTunes it should have the #1 somewhat in the bag :o
July 10, 201213 yr Author Please please please let Florence be #1 come Sunday. As for the albums, I guess Newton Faulkner has got it in the bag, with low sales, all he needs is 20k plus, for the week, mind you I still wouldn't count out Chris Brown, or any of the top 5.
July 10, 201213 yr Author Why not Graceland? Probably #1 next week, I think its a bit too early to get a #1 this week with the performance at Hyde Park on Sunday.
July 10, 201213 yr Why not Graceland? It's sales boost was entirely due to that 'making of' documentary, but the effect of that will wear off quite quickly.
July 10, 201213 yr Author Sarah Hall @sarah_hall So @NewtonFaulkner has the number one album in today's midweeks YES! Did we all see him on BBC breakfast this morning?on twitter: https://twitter.com/sarah_hall ============= David Balls @davidballs There's a fantastic new album at No.2 in the midweeks. on twitter https://twitter.com/davidballs A bit vague though, could be the View.
July 10, 201213 yr Yay! At last! Some UK love for @adamlambert - #Trespassing No. 3 on the official midweek album charts & NCOE No. 12 on the single midweeks!
July 10, 201213 yr Shocked at Adam Lambert. Granted, he'll probably fall, but a potential top ten album after his last one just scraped the top 40 in the UK is pretty darn good.
July 10, 201213 yr Author The #2 album is... Duncan Ellis @sbmgmtduncan Manager to Everything Everything, Lianne La Havas, kodaline, Post War Years, Visions Of Trees @liannelahavas number 2 midweek! Feeling good! === All we need now, is how the top 3 singles are shaping up
July 10, 201213 yr This might be really obvious to everyone else but why On earth are Florence on course for a no1 this week?! Nothing else from the album has really set the chart alight. Is it all just because Calvin Harris has remixed it (and can do no wrong at the moment)?
July 10, 201213 yr The #2 album is... === All we need now, is how the top 3 singles are shaping up :cheer:
July 10, 201213 yr Pleased for Adam, :D his profile has come on in spades since his last release and he'll also be fronting Queen on their european tour this summer.
July 10, 201213 yr This might be really obvious to everyone else but why On earth are Florence on course for a no1 this week?! Nothing else from the album has really set the chart alight. Is it all just because Calvin Harris has remixed it (and can do no wrong at the moment)? Exactly ;)
July 10, 201213 yr Shes not really an singles artist though - her singles have been mainly OA/OS so rise up the chart and fall quickley because she doesnt have a video thats played 100 times a day on mtv and by the time radio 1 airplay peaks its hard for her to climb up the chart too far. And yes the calvin mix is why its doing well and calvin is flavour of the month at the mo in the uk charts - its been like this throughout the charts histopry for most artists - they have a 3 year peak period apart from someone like riri who continues to be relevant for longer!
