June 18, 201411 yr I'll point out those ratings barriers you've put in the first post and for primetime. If anything's getting 3m+ in daytime, it's a runaway success! The top daytime programme is normally Pointless at around 3-4m. In terms of pure daytime, normally BBC News at One gets 2m on most days. ITV normally struggles in daytime between 1 and 2m.
June 18, 201411 yr This is great info, thanks Rabbitheart! Hopefully try and build something up a bit more like what we're trying to do with the US ratings in the future but that'll just depend on how people react to this.
June 18, 201411 yr As a Briton living in the UK I have no interest in the US ratings at all. I am much more interested in the UK ratings. As the top ten is almost always going to be dominated by the soaps the list of other programmes is also of interest.
June 19, 201411 yr It's included with ITV's ratings given that it's just a regional variation of ITV. They've not split zither BBC by region so why would they do the same with ITV (You'll note there's no UTV either for the same reason)

Oh yeah, that's what I meant! I just thought that daytime programmes were unlikely to feature on Barb's website so didn't have a seperate category for daytime. smash *.* It is actually a massive hit for MTV as they don't normally get those sort of ratings.

August 27, 201410 yr I had no idea GBBO was the biggest show in the country, wow. I also thought Big Brother had more views than that (about 2.2 mill), it's below shows I've never even heard of..
August 27, 201410 yr Good to see some decent figures (given that it is August) for serious drama such as The Village.
August 27, 201410 yr Author I had no idea GBBO was the biggest show in the country, wow. I also thought Big Brother had more views than that (about 2.2 mill), it's below shows I've never even heard of.. GBBO has just grown and grown every series! Unbelievable that a baking competition gets 8 million+! The latest series of Big Brother has been the lowest watched series ever, anyone who watched it can see why. The series has averaged 1.53 million whereas last year averaged 1.81 million. There were a few episodes last year that got over 2 million (including the final) yet only the first launch show attracted over 2 million this year. Hopefully, the production team learn from their mistakes this year as it has a good chance to improve figures again. CBB normally gets over 2 million, although the one in Jan this year managed to attract an average of 3 million which is a HUGE success for Channel 5! I think the ratings will be a lot lower for the current series though.
August 27, 201410 yr The latest series of Big Brother has been the lowest watched series ever, anyone who watched it can see why. 'Anyone' being 'anyone within the Buzzjack community that represents, probably, .1% of viewers, who shared one popular opinion on the show'. Ratings are most likely down because no matter how you look at it the show is dying in popularity. Channel 5 can try as hard as they may next year but their attempts to make a change after this year (not that any need to be made) wouldn't really work. Edited August 27, 201410 yr by Calum Hood
August 27, 201410 yr Author Yes, it will never be as popular as it was. However, how can you explain the rise in viewers for last year's series? And then the very high rise in viewers for January's CBB? If they get the right mix of housemates and tasks/twists, ratings will rise again next year.
August 27, 201410 yr Yes, it will never be as popular as it was. However, how can you explain the rise in viewers for last year's series? And then the very high rise in viewers for January's CBB? If they get the right mix of housemates and tasks/twists, ratings will rise again next year. The civilian series' are always just a lottery with viewers though, really. Celebrity versions excel and do well if there are the right celebrities catering for the right demographic(s) in the house, so they'll obviously garner higher ratings.
August 27, 201410 yr Author I wouldn't go as far as saying it is a lottery. Yes, the producers are less aware of what the housemates will be like, and the length of the series could mean a less interesting second half depending on who has been evicted. However, the producers can, if they wanted to, hit similar balances to what they have achieved with CBB in the past that have caused certain series to be so popular. I remember my feeling after the BB15 launch night was less excitement and more uncertainty and my posts around this time clearly show this, so I'm not saying this with hindsight. I won't go into detail because I know we both share differing opinions on the housemates but I will say that I feel they were too similar and too self-absorbed for viewers to warm to them, be entertained and keep watching. The numerous twists and throwing out of the rule-book didn't help either. BB14 wasn't successful just on the off-chance. The twists, no matter the complaints at the time, did feel, for the most part, well planned out from the start of the show rather than the 'throwing everything into the mix' of this year. The housemates were also a bit more diverse when compared to other Channel 5 series and they managed to get a few standout characters amongst a few other smaller characters who still did provide entertainment. If Channel 5 are prepared to plan through the series carefully and adapt to the audience and look even more carefully at housemates, seeing where they go right and where they have gone wrong before, the next series will be another success. BB14 was in fact, the first Channel 5 series I've heard spoken about outside of the show itself and the internet ie in real life. The same for Jan's BB too. They were popular series and this was not just down to luck. The show has not survived so many years for no reason and it can improve on it's viewership which has been seen in the last couple of years.
August 28, 201410 yr According to DS Ratings Thread, last week's GBBO has timeshifted to 9.2 million viewers! It won't be long before it cracks 10 million, imo and could even end up rating higher than The X Factor and possibly even Strictly Come Dancing!
August 28, 201410 yr It really is a ratings juggernaut and unlike either of those other shows (much as I love X Factor) it's interesting without being forced (like X Factor) and has an old presenter who isn't a RELIC who should have been out to pasture several decades ago.
