Would it be right to suggest Pixie's first album sold more last year than the actual album she released in 2014? ohmy.gif

I'm not sure how much the most recent album sold but TIU sold 5.5k in 2014

40. OLLY MURS- Olly Murs (20-24-27-32-40) 817,300
39. DISC-OVERY- Tinie Tempah (29-21-26-33-39) 817,900
38. 18 MONTHS- Calvin Harris (89-42-38) 824,800
37. LIONESS: HIDDEN TREASURES- Amy Winehouse (31-25-31-37) 827,900
36. THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE- P!nk (63-34-36) 837,400

Had the year end been one week later then Murs would have joined One Direction and Rihanna on this list as the only entrants with 4 albums on the list. Well it wasn’t so, he misses out here but debut set “Olly Murs” just clings onto the top 40 along with Tinie Tempah who featured on 2 chart topping singles but no-one is showing much interest album wise. Calvin Harris continues to improve with “18 Months”.

35. GREATEST HITS...SO FAR- P!nk (32-35-34-35-35) 840,700
34. MIDNIGHT MEMORIES- One Direction (45-34) 843,200
33. ELEMENT OF FREEDOM- Alicia Keys (7-17-24-28-33) 855,500 (T/S 994,000)
32. RECOVERY- Eminem (9-16-22-26-32) 898,500
31. GREATEST HITS- Bon Jovi (16-30-31-29-31) 899,800

Showing that GH sets can still sell well Pink and Bon Jovi stay in more or less the same position 12 months on and it’s congrats to One Direction once again as last year’s biggest seller “Midnight Memories” breaches the top 40 though a million might be a big ask for it now.

Great to see Bon Jovi's GH practically being 3x Platinum - I knew it would sell 1m and now it's not got far to go!

Could Alicia Keys' album PLEASE pass 1m already? I've not heard it but it's been an "almost million seller" for absolutely ages!

30. COME AROUND SUNDOWN- Kings Of Leon (11-15-21-25-30) 903,100
29. UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX- Bruno Mars (30-29) 932,900
28. TAKE ME HOME- One Direction (42-24-28) 967,100
27. BORN TO DIE- Lana Del Rey (33-27-27) 968,500
26. HALCYON- Ellie Goulding (51-26) 990,200

Man of the moment Bruno Mars sees his second album over the 900k mark and register a slight improvement on the list whilst Lana Del Rey holds the fort at No 27 with her debut which could well sell its millionth copy in 2015. She won’t get there as quickly as Ellie Goulding though who should push past the golden million mark within a few months and is in the select few acts who improve saleswise on their last album.

25. BORN THIS WAY- Lady Gaga (18-18-22-25) 990,200
24. SUNNY SIDE UP- Paolo Nutini (6-14-20-23-24) 994,400 (T/S 1,804,800)
23. TALK THAT TALK- Rihanna (26-17-20-23) 1,031,600
22. BABEL- Mumford & Sons (47-21-22) 1,051,000
21. IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW- Olly Murs (34-19-18-21) 1,088,000

Lady Gaga is making heavy work on making “Born This Way” a million seller as she’s still 10k away with even Paolo Nutini’s 2009 album outperforming her this year though of course it was a million seller back in 2010. Onto this decade’s million sellers and it’s movement in the wrong way for acts who all have more than one album in million selling album club, Rihanna, Olly Murs, and Mumford & Sons.

I never realised 'Come Around Sundown' was such a big seller. It only really had 'Radioactive' to show for it, so i just assumed it came and went very quickly.

'Halcyon' (minus the Days) is still an incredible album and i'm glad it's outperformed 'Lights' wub.gif hope that and 'Born This Way' can cross a million eventually!

SO CLOSE for The Gags. hope it gets there someday just for the statistic of having 2 million selling albums, as she has no chance with any other album she releases

I love reading this countdown/chart. It's very interesting to see which artists keep selling and which only work in a specific period/context. I was also reminded that Born This Way (the Gaga album) in fact did quite well which relativizes its "flop" image.

(I know my introduction should go in the New Members thread but after years and years of looking on here I actually decided to register to say thank you to all of you who take the time to create these lists, charts, countdowns and reports again and again!)

So many in with a shout of becoming million sellers. I remember been so disappointed when Cheryl beat bon jovis greatest hits to number 1 as I knew overall they would easily outsell her which clearly has happened.Bon Jovi hadn't had a number 1 in a while and I had hoped the greatest hits would have made it. Olly Murs really has had very consistent high selling albums, his total UK album sales must be aroundd 4 million now. Himself and One direction have similar total sales but I reckon Olly is slightly ahead which would mean he is x factors number 1 album selling act based on UK sales with Leona in a close 3rd.

Great thread and thanks to the OP for doing this. Bon Jovi's GH is only £4.99 now in most places with the double cd version at £6.99. Does anyone know the total sales now for Crossroads, their other GH cd from 1994?

20. UP ALL NIGHT- One Direction (41-23-19-20) 1,091,100
19. LUNGS- Florence & The Machine (8-11-16-17-19) 1,120,600 (T/S 1,636,500)
18. TEENAGE DREAM- Katy Perry (15-12-15-16-18) 1,222,100
17. IN THE LONELY HOUR- Sam Smith (NEW) 1.247,700
16. WHO YOU ARE- Jessie J (19-14-14-16) 1,259,500

The clear highlight here is Sam Smith who was the only act to sell a million copies of his album on both sides of the Atlantic, it’s another album which should see a further leap on this list in 12 months despite the fact he’s pretty much milked it dry of hits now. Everything else slides as 1D's best seller just hangs onto a top 20 position.

15. RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME- Olly Murs (48-15-15) 1,268,600
14. DEFAMATION OF STRICKLAND BANKS- Plan B (5-8-12-13-14) 1,359,500
13. SIGH NO MORE- Mumford & Sons (10-10-13-12-13) 1,450,300 (T/S 1,602,300)
12. MYLO XYLOTO- Coldplay (13-11-11-12) 1,466,200
11. THE FAME/ MONSTER- Lady Gaga (3-5-9-10-11) 1,511,700 (T/S 2,900,700)

Olly Murs’ best seller holds at No 15 whilst Lady Gaga is finally pushed out of the top 10 with “The Fame/ Monster” but she can comfort herself as the album’s total sales now tip over the 2.9 million mark, quite an achievement.

10. 19- ADELE (xx-6-6-8-10) 1,636,200 (T/S 2,213,000)

Adele’s debut 2008 album still keeps its top 10 place more to do with the generally collapsing album market rather than its ongoing sales. The only single to do anything much in the 2010’s is of course “Make You Feel My Love” which has had an airing on reality TV shows over the years and is now her biggest selling track from the album overtaking the No 2 smash “Chasing Pavements”. She also remains the only act this decade to hold the top 2 spaces in the album charts simultaneously.

Annoying that Who You Are is still above Teenage Dream! Going by Adele's drop, I'm guessing that gives light as to where x has placed? Disappointing that there's only one addition to the top ten this year but I'm sure Sam Smith (the joy!) will leap up there next year.

09. DOO WOPS AND HOOLIGANS- BRUNO MARS (9-8-9-9) 1,650,200

With a million selling introductory solo single there was always going to be high demand for his first album, and few were surprised when it duly arrived at No 1 in January 2011, the class of his song writing long having been established through the likes of B.o.B and Travie McCoy, K’naan, Sugababes (“Get Sexy”) and No 1’s for Cee-Lo Green and Flo Rida (“Right Round”).

08. x- ED SHEERAN (NEW) 1,689,124

Joining Buble and Adele with two albums in the top 10 of the decade Sheeran had an amazing 2014 scoring two chart toppers and also seeing his second album spending 8 weeks at No 1 from the off and 12 in total within the year. It was of course the biggest selling album of 2014 and opened with 182k back in June (again the best of the year) before the topping the US charts. Indeed he’s seemed unstoppable this year and the album looks like it has plenty of life in it- how high can it go?

Imagine that most people saw Random Access Memories being a huge album just before it came out. One of the most disappointing sellers. It's rival, in many ways, AM from Arctic Monkeys has done really well.
