Howdy all! We've been planning on starting off a song contest here in this little forum where we can celebrate tracks from the 90s and before. We really like the way the dance forum theme theirs and are intending to steal with pride from them and adopt that approach to the ones we hold here.

The idea will be that we hold 3 or 4 a year so it doesn't become too much but we thought it would have an angle that none of the other song contest currently target so we're hoping that it will interest you enough to take part.

For starters I've decided to pop a few potential themes in the poll above and we can run with whichever gets the most votes!

Hope you like the idea, feel free to make any suggestions in the thread if you have any ideas or comments x


ALSO - should you have any ideas for the title of the song contest then please do share!

I just picked some choices and thought it best not to make it too dance heavy... others can be included - plus I'm thinking after the opening round that the winner could choose the next theme, like the dance forum one.

Do you already have a name how's the contest going to be called or is just going to Retro Song Contest?

This is a great idea. I would like to enter more retro songs in the BJSC but I don't think they would do very well so I can use them in this contest instead.

I chose 80s synths, Never had a number 1, New Romantics and Should have been a single for the vote. 70s rock would be a good theme.

Will this be an anonymous contest?

This seems like a good idea, as has been mentioned I would love to send more retro stuff to BJSC so this could be ideal. 80's Cheese, 80's Synth or Electronica would be my vote.

Anything that allows me to sneak in city pop on a technicality please and thank you (80s synths or cheese should do that, depending on the pick). Though I'm expecting some of these themes would lend themselves more to well-known-ish songs, maybe not ones that are regularly played anymore.
