Ed's second release from 'Equals' is out now! Certainly more traditional Ed than Bad Habits

Is this definitely the 2nd single and not just an instant grat as I didn’t think Ed would release on a Thursday? It certainly sounds more of an album seller than a big hit single like ‘Bad Habits’ so I don’t expect it to be massive.

Seems way too early for a follow up to Bad habits, I expect this to get a lot of curiosity streams and streams just cause it’s a big name, but I still expect bad habits to stay miles ahead and be his biggest hit for some time to come.

Wasn't Kylie supposed to be on this song somewhere? What happened to that?!

It's definitely more traditional Ed but I quite like it, at least it feels more heartfelt and genuine than the ballads on ÷

"Instant grat" is a term I don't think I've seen since 2014.

You can hear her during the 'oooooo's' but apart from that its hard to make her out. But then I guess thats what backing vocals are!

there are 8 people doing backing vocals including Kylie:

Backing Vocals
Pauline McDaid, Maev McDaid, Kylie Minogue, Josh McDaid, Johnny McDaid, Jimmy Carr, Jimmy Barnes & Aine McDaid

there are also 7 co-writers, lots of people involved it seems ohmy.gif

Genius says it's the 2nd single but they probably just made it up

when I saw Jimmy Carr I was also perplexed but on Genius, when you click the name
it redirects to the Jimmy Carr page... but not sure if it makes sense

Jimmy Carr is a British comedian and occasional actor. He was also credited as the co-writer of a Robbie Williams song.

It seems he genuinely did co-write a Robbie song... so it could well be him on backing vocals laugh.gif

Looks like it's true! Though also seems like quite a poignant post after Sean Lock's passing

(Jimmy also turned up at The Killers' Glasto 2019 set, so clearly has some connections in the industry!)

Sometimes I find Ed Sheeran ballads a bit cheesy for my liking but Visiting Hours is very good I think, very Mumford and Sons with the backing vocal and horns. The only bit I don't like about it is when he does his higher pitched vocal at the end of the chorus (the words 'changed' and 'been away'). I prefer his normal vocal range.

I don’t mind this. Does it remind anyone else of Candle in the Wind during the first part of the chorus?

There’s something else that it reminds me of too in the verses but I can’t quite place it, really bugging me!

I actually really love this. I feel like anyone who's lost someone close to them (like I have) can relate to it.

I guess I have to give him credit for approaching a sensitive topic in a ballad without being cheesy.
