It's tradition.

World Cup comes, everybody goes all rabid and predicts this will finally be England's year, Three Lions hits the charts for the fourteenth time, millions of people try to skive off work to watch the games, and "dark horses" Spain prove everybody wrong by getting kicked out in the second round.

It's a big tournament so anything goes. When Greece when the Euros in 2004 no-one expected it, and the Italy France final in 2006 was unpredictable. The thing is with a World Cup is anything goes, any team of about 8/9 could realistically win it. Spain just have such a fantastic team though and their record of late just speaks for itself. Iniesta, Xavi, Alonso, Torres, Villa - they're some of the best players in the world. Brazil and Spain are the best two teams in the world, they're definitely the favourites to win the WC and rightly so.
So many people are fancying Spain yet again but they never seem to live up to expectations in the WC.

Which is exactly what people said before the European Championships last year. And who won? Oh look, it was Spain.

Oh group of death is by far gruop G

I hope Germany wins the world cup this year  or.. Denmark :kink:

Im sorry but if England dont get at least a top 2 placing in their group, i will seriously question the England football team and so should everybody else. No offence to the other teams in that group but they [England] are probably in the easiest group going. Slightly worried for Portugal being in the same group as Brazil but hey, weve beaten them once we can do it again :D But i have serious doubts whether Portugal can make it to the Last 16. Either way i will be supporting them till the end!

Spain is definately first but I don't think Brazil is THAT good. Certainly up there in the top 5/6 but not the second best team. IMO.

I don't see how a group that has North Korea in it can be considered to be the group of death. Germany is easily the group of death, I think to suggest anything else is laughable. You have to have four very good teams and that's what it has. Australia are no mugs, they're a decent side who'll want to do well after the 'injustice' they had last time out. Ghana are definitely one of the two best African teams and if they're not as good as Ivory Coast, then they're only marginally worse. And Serbia are the best team from the European pot, just because they're not the name that Portugal are doesn't make them a bad team. People (especially in the media) said that France and Portugal were the two teams you want to avoid from that group. Why? Surely avoiding the team that easily qualified ahead of France is more key. They're certainly better than an ageing and average Portugal side.

Uruguay - Nigeria

England - Germany

Argentina - France

Ghana - USA

Netherlands - Paraguay

Brazil - Chile

Italy - Denmark

Spain - Ivory Coast

Uruguay - England

Netherlands - Chile

France - Ghana

Denmark - Spain

England - Netherlands

Ghana - Spain

Netherlands - Spain

Well, probably not, but there will be some surprises and I can't see a World Cup on non-European soil to be so dominated by European teams. I think the Netherlands will do the opposite to what they usually do and grow into the tournament, peaking in the last two rounds.

They're certainly better than an ageing and average Portugal side.

Whilst im offended, i also sadly agree :(

Thomas Sorensen has just saved his third successive penalty (in just four games!). I know who I don't want England to play on penalties! :heehee:

Chris, you're a plank.

This isn't really related to sport, but if you don't like the country you're in, fook off. You should remember though that much as this country has it's flaws, you get bloody well treated here. Most other countries out there wouldn't put up with your workshy crap for a minute.

On sport, I like the look of England's group, but am a bit fearful of the second round - Germany the boogy team, Serbia the dark horse, and Australia who beat us last time we played did they not?

Erm surely I'm allowed to say who I'd like to win and who I hope doesn't win? Is there a law stating every English person should wish the team well and want an England win? NO. I have a bottle of champagne to crack open when England lose! I think they'll actually do well though and be semi-finalists. Anyone who thinks they won't win the group is a plonker as they'll win it easily.

As far as I am concerned anyone who is a citizen of their country and does not want them to do well in their support should f*** OFF out of the country!!!!!!!

Ffs, the media really hate England sometimes, first they force Sven out, and now they feck up our hopes of hosting the World Cup. Nice one!

It shouldn't make any difference anyway, the FA have already f***ed it up with our national stadium. No one in their right mind would vote for a country who have admitted that for the next fourteen years we won't be able to have a pitch capable of lasting more than one game. If that is the best we can do we don't deserve to host it anyway.

I agree.

Forget Lord Triesman quitting FA and 2018 World Cup bid jobs as a result.

When is journalism, and more importantly when are newspapers going to be held to account in this country?

They always hide behind the freedom of speech and censorship arguments, but what about the rights of private individuals?

Setting a trap like this, and publishing the private thoughts of Lord Triesman, however ludicrous they maybe, is a national disgrace. The Daily Mail has acted against the national interest.

It is without a doubt the most despicable newspaper in the country.

Not to mention the constant embarrassment of huge numbers of empty seats for at least ten minutes after half-time. If we don't get it I just it hope it goes to a country that hasn't hosted it before.
