To be honest, I think Alison Goldfrapp would boil her own mother alive if it gave her a hit single.... I was unaware she was gay, though, but strange she should decide to confirm it when 'Rocket' is due to hit the shops.

She's a strange one, Ms Goldfrapp - of the many people I know who've worked with her over the years, not one of them has a single nice thing to say about her.

But I do love the music... well...some of it.

I like Rocket - but it's undoubtedly their flimsiest single to date - Christ, it even makes the appalling 'Number 1' sound like Bohemian Rhapsody.

Yes, it's radio friendly, yes it's catchy as scabies..... but this is WAY below par for a band worth so much more. And each and every one of the 8+ mixes I've had sent to me so far is bloody shocking.

Hmm, well it is a bit 'flimsy' I suppose but it's exceptionally charming too. Not a patch on Number 1 though which I still maintain is their best single, just ahead of A&E. Lyrically, musically gorgeous.

The remixes of Rocket are poor but Goldfrapp aren't the type of I act I personally enjoy listening to in remixed form.

Decided to listen to 'Rocket' a few days ago. It's ok, but it doesn't have anything on the 'Black Cherry' era

Yeah, for me I don't think they'll ever touch Black Cherry era. Totally sexy electronica at its absolute best. Of course I have actually liked all their albums to date. I kind of like 'Rocket' now, it's a grower but I do agree it's a tad throwaway compared to a lot of their stuff.

The video has finally escaped for Rocket:

Personally I'm rather underwhelmed with it as it seems like a cross between Depeche Mode's "Wrong" & Geri Halliwell's "Lift Me Up" videos only on a shoestring budget.

"Rocket" is no classic, it's a solid track though.

I agree, "Black Cherry" album is for me, their career high. It still sounds like it was made yesterday and the hits is spawned were bloody great. They are a great albums band, but I think they are an even better singles band! Just think how amazing a Best Of Goldfrapp album would be?? (even though I have all their albums to date, but still...)

Although it seems nobody else is... it's finally made the itunes chart at #100. Major flop really.

Sadly this track is not doing well on iTunes, I like the track to bits, its not boding well for the album, mind you there are only 9 tracks on it. I'm not in a hurry to purchase the album, just wait another 3 months and it probably end up in the bargain bins as quick as for £3.99.

The Seventh Tree was exceptional.

The physical single is £4.99 in HMV. Not really helping matters
Neither is the fact that this remains underwhelming as hell. I've loved so much of their past material but this is easily the most throwaway thing they've ever done. And considering the kind of stuff on Supernature that's saying something! It's like a very, very weak version of On A Mission...

Only the appalling Ooh La La was even slightly throwaway; let's not run with that whole 'Supernature was such a frightful, non-Goldfrappy album' bullshit.

And I love On A Mission but I'd say Rocket is the superior track, though I am rather confused by the comparison as they're not very much alike and Gabriella's song alludes much more to the disco of the 70s in parts whereas Rocket is a purely 80s throwback.

It's only not doing well because they've left the video so late and because Radio 1 haven't got behind it. I bet the album still has a decent opening and hopefully future single releases won't polarise opinion in the same manner as Rocket.

'Head First' has leaked.

Going to listen once it's downloaded. (More than likely after Justin Bieber, but that's a different story :heehee:)

Have to say, I love seventh tree but this is pretty $h!t on first listen, hopefully it will grow on me.
On first listen I found the majority of the album really dull with very little variation. It's not too commercial, it's just too disinteresting. I'll keep trying.

This made my day:

Well I think they've lost it. I can't distinguish Head First from any of the other Little Boots et al of the music scene right now. It's not a bad record, just too repetitive and weak and extremely cheesy in parts which I NEVER thought I'd say about a Goldfrapp record. Such a shame as I've recently bought their entire back catalogue after having them on my laptop for like eons and this just sounds like flimsy, throwaway pap in comparison to Black Cherry, Felt Mountain & Seventh Tree.

The title track and 'Believer' are the highlights for me.
