December 17, 200916 yr Oh seriously, put your toys back in the pram and stop crying wolf everytime something happens that you don't like. :P We should all be celebrating the fact that we have a genuine chart battle on our hands (which I, for one, find exciting) and it really can still go either way on Sunday. I still can't call it - I keep thinking we'll know more in the next set of mids but Wednesday's and Thursday's mids have made it even more tight and tomorrow's might give us a better indication but then again they might not. It's true though, IMO such is evil, Simon now knows what the public wants and there's no need to tinker with it 'if he wants what is good for us'. Cheating will then finally be his last resort, which should get the whole song disqualified if this plan really goes into force. <_<
December 17, 200916 yr The physical market has as much validity as downloads, if not more because the price to purchase is more. Why scrap a the traditional, and perfectly valid way of purchasing music? I, for one, cannot see a reason? (perhaps because you didn't give one...) I think it was sarcasm from him ;)
December 17, 200916 yr I still think it's going to be really close on Sunday I like The X Factor but it really is interesting having a real chart battle, the first in ages (at any time of year, not just xmas). As a fan of Joe's I'm not that bothered because I'm sure he will be #1 next week anyway.
December 17, 200916 yr I really hate how X Factor dominates the UK chart I really hate that the Christmas number 1 is/was always the X Factor winner I really hate though the campaign against the X Factor too. Awful top 2, and I'm really not interested in the chart this week, because it is "fixed". This is really not what the Christmas chart should look like and this really ruins my fanatism into charts. Plus to see these two songs also in the Year-end chart quite high is scandalous. That's my opinion :( Me too. Both campaigns (if you can call X Factor that) are as fake as each other. So for me, number 1 is still Lady Gaga :kink:

Why scrap a the traditional, and perfectly valid way of purchasing music? I, for one, cannot see a reason? (perhaps because you didn't give one...) Oh I only buy physical, this is the first download I've bought since Summer... I won't be able to describe the sadness in me when I see some acts download only. However if this is really the only way to keep the X Factor off the top spot, give me downloads any day. I'd happily give physicals up forever for this one Xmas no.1
December 17, 200916 yr RATM have no real chance of beating X-Factor to number 1 this week. I have just spoken to my bookie, and he is only offering 1/4 on Joe. This, in a 2 horse race, is what's known as a 'dead cert'. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but I think most music 'insiders' already know this but they want to keep the 'illusion' alive. After all, if they can keep the hype going, it's more money in the pocket for them isn't it? Even so, the figures speak for themselves. Rage ARE outselling Joe by a good margin. It's going to be really close by the end of the week, no one can possibly call it yet.

Plenty artists have EP's on the iTunes album chart - I suppose they are cheating too :P

December 17, 200916 yr Here is an article which sums up why this campaign is so great and why Tom Morello is a god. Rage Against The Machine star Tom Morello has described the campaign to make the band's 1993 hit 'Killing In The Name' the Christmas number one as a "little dose of anarchy". The musician praised the British public for purchasing the song and insisted that music fans want more than being "spoon-fed some overblown sugary ballad" by Simon Cowell. "This is a grass roots effort. It's nothing against the candidates or the guy that runs the show. Your country has such a great, rich history of cutting edge, exciting rebel music, whether it be the early Stones or Who, the Clash and the Sex Pistols or Prodigy and Muse," he told BBC 6 Music. "I think people are just fed up of being spoon-fed some overblown sugary ballad that sits on top of the charts. It's a little dose of anarchy for the holidays, it's good for the soul. "I don't think there is anything cynical about it. In the spirit of great rebel music, and all the best music is rebel music, they are taking up the torch for music in the UK. That top spot doesn't belong to anybody - any TV show or any '90s political rock band. Let the people decide." :)
December 17, 200916 yr Eh? Cheating? Plenty artists have EP's on the iTunes album chart - I suppose they are cheating too :P  Yeah, and they release them on Friday, not on Monday

After all, if they can keep the hype going, it's more money in the pocket for them isn't it? That's absolute nonsense - nobody can control the buying habits of the public. I'll admit that there's still going to be a massive surge towards X Factor on Saturday when the kids go out to town with their pocket money but there is no certainty. What odds is he giving on RATM by the way?
December 17, 200916 yr I'd love RATM to be number one, it would really rub Cowell's nose in it. For the record I like the x factor as a show (though not the winner this year and certainly not the song) but dislike their domination of the Christmas charts every year. I think sadly it will be the same this year, the physicals will be enough for the x factor to win it by Sunday. One thing that does irritate me, supermarket single sales should not count when there is only one song available, it's clearly not a remotely level playing field. Just my two cents.
December 17, 200916 yr Author More than 80,000 CD sales yesterday were not enough to allow Joe McElderry’s The Climb to overtake Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In the Name at the top of the midweek singles charts. However, the physical release of the single from the X Factor winner did allow it to cut the LA band’s lead at the top of the midweeks to just under 37,000 copies today from around 65,000 yesterday, according to figures from the Official Charts Company. Killing In The Name has sold around 253,000 copies so far this week, all of them digital. The majority of The Climb’s sales are still digital but this may change with the CD single now widely available. Many retailers who do not traditionally stock CD singles – including Asda and Tesco – are stocking The Climb on CD. The two singles are leading one of the closest races in years for the Christmas number one single. A number of bookmakers have now installed Rage Against The Machine as the favourite to top the festive charts. ======================= Thursday Update Top 40 Only Singles http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/4722242.JPG 1 Rage Against The Machine 253k 2 Joe McElderry 216k 3 Lady GaGa 4 Peter Kay 5 Robbie Williams Top 10 6 Cheryl Cole 7 3OH!3 feat Katy Perry 8 Journey Top 15 11George Michael Top 20 Michael Buble Top 30 Alexandra Burke 27 Leona Lewis [sCYHO] 28 Miley Cyrus Top 40 32 Saturdays 33 Pet Shop Boys Luther Vandross Queen & The Muppets =========================== Albums http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697554542.JPG 1 Susan Boyle 2 Michael Buble 3 Black Eyed Peas 4 JLS 5 Lady GaGa Top 10 Snow Patrol 7 Robbie Williams 8 Leona Lewis Top 15 12 Will Young 13 Cheryl Cole 15 Alicia Keys Top 20 Paolo Nutini 20 Alexandra Burke Top 30 Fleetwood Mac Paul McCartney Top 40 Chris Moyles Seal Katherine Jenkins [believe] Florence & The Machine NO SALES INFO ===================== Artists Mini-Update Singles Alicia Keys 10+5 Cheryl "National Treasure" Cole FFTL 10+7 Pixie Lott 12+12 Pogues 20+2 JLS [EIL] 20+5 Mariah 20+3 Leona Lewis 30+5 Albums Take That 5+5 Will Young 6+6 Michael Jackson 10+7 Rihanna 20+3 N-Dubz 20+1
December 17, 200916 yr Spiidey. This is to close to call, I agree. Ive been doing all sorts of calculations, but cant call it. Saturday sales will really decide it. I note RATM have increased their lead on Itunes this morning to about 150%, making it even harder to call!. General observation. SuBo on for 300K + this week?. going on yesterdays sales. I'll admit that there's still going to be a massive surge towards X Factor on Saturday when the kids go out to town with their pocket money but there is no certainty. What odds is he giving on RATM by the way? He's giving 3-1 at the moment on RATM Richie, but I expect it to be at least 5-1 by Friday evening. I know a lot more about betting than I do music, I have to admit, but my bookie does not offer 3-1 on a 2 horse race, ever! 1-4 on Joe shows how sure he is at the moment and, don't forget, that is with RATM being in the lead as we speak! ;)

December 17, 200916 yr William Hill spokesman speaks; "The momentum has switched away from Rage and the odds suggest that Joe will be the sixth X Factor winner in a row to have the Christmas number one," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams. from here the more that people come out with stuff like 'it's done and dusted, Joe's won it now' - the more the RATM Facebook group will keep buying and fight back in my opinion - if Joe is say only 10k shy of Rage in tomorrow's midweeks, or in front - the group will go into meltdown and all download it again, I can almost guarantee it
