I think Radio 1 is a more reliable source, unless Reggie is doing it. Hopefully we won't have a Lupe Fiasco-esque screwup in the R1 Y/E chart this year.

#22 on R1, #67 officially.

It was an OCC error (rather than a Radio 1 error) which was only corrected a few weeks later by the error being brought to the attention of the OCC by one or two posters around the boards. Music Week published the same end of year chart that Radio 1 broadcast, i.e. the one with the error.

omg what is so hard to understand, there are more days in a year than make up 52 weeks, so these extra days are carried up and create an extra week every few years i.e week 53. it is exactly the same as there are actually more hours in a year than fit into 365 days so every year those extra hours are carried over and an extra day is added, i.e a leap year.
there is also leap seconds.
Isnt Radio 1 doing the top 40 songs of the year tomorrow?
In the past they have done year end countdowns which weren't based on sales for the whole year but rather to the last Saturday of the year (or even earlier, if you go back to before 1984) and an official end of year chart has then been issued which has differed from that broadcast on Radio 1. If there is another week's worth of sales to go then Radio 1 will be broadcasting both an end of year and end of decade chart which differs to the official end of year and end of decade charts.

why is it so difficult to just count sales of 2009 as all sales that happen in the calender year 1/1/2009 to 31/12/2009?

it would certainly make more sense. And it would be easy these days to count sales from 01/01 to 31/12 of any year.

I guess we'll know the answer next Sunday evening - if the YTD positions are the same as the those of the singles chart, then sales from today (27/12) onwards will count towards 2010, otherwise 2009.

The fact is simple - the W/E 2nd January Charts are 2009 Charts

- at least their SALES are - so The OCC will add those Sales to 2009.

As they will also count any Chart Facts & Feats, & Statistics from those

Charts, as 2009 ones.

They will also count them - Sales/Stats - as belonging to 'The Noughties'

- 2000 - 2009.

That goes for today's, (W/B 27th December/W/E 2nd January), Singles,

Albums, Compilations, & Music DVD's etc.

The OCC have various Decade Top 3's, (many Genres - Singles, Albums,

Films), on their 2010 Calendar. The 'Cut Off' Date for those Sales is W/E

Saturday 5th December - so, it does not count Sales from 12th, 19th, 26th

December, & 2nd January - because they needed to get the Calendar

prepared - to send out, well before Christmas.....

It is when The OCC START 'The Noughties' that is interesting - I will check

on that, as it seems to contradict their Yearly start Weeks.....(They start their

'Noughties' Sales/Stats on W/E 2nd January 2000 - surely, it should be W/E

9th January 2000 - if their Sales/ Stats/Method is to be consistent?).

^^ right, so the chart that is announced tonight will be count towards 2009 YTD, as it is dated W/E 2nd Jan, but the chart announced next Sunday will not?? in other words, Poker Face is the UK's best-selling single of 2009??

It certainly seems that way

I think Radio 1 will do an end of year countdown today, but it will be slightly different to the official year end chart that will be a week later

It will probably be exactly the same as the current top 60 of 2009

How long is the radio 1 end of year countdown? Is it the top 20?

They are not doing the EOY chart today as this is what Radio 1 website says is happenin,

Dev sits in for Reggie to count down the new official Top 40.

So Lady GaGa could lose her crown at the top as next weeks sales also count towards 2009.

Radio 1's website doesn't always give in-depth programme details. The chart show for next sunday (Jan 3) doesn't say a great much either:

Reggie counts down the official Top 40 to reveal the UK's new No 1 first.

Today's chart show has been scheduled to be an end of year chart show for a number of weeks now.

Who gives a ...

about cut of dates. :P

Really, I think it should be sales from New Years Day to New Years Eve.

Right - I've checked:,

1) The OCC began their Charts/Sales for 'The Noughties'/Decade with

the Charts that came out on Sunday 2nd January 2000.

2) That means that they began the Decade with the Charts of Saturday

8th January 2000.

3) They end the Decade with today's Charts - 27th December - for Week Ending

2nd January 2010.

4) They also end 2009 with the same Charts.

5) As far as I know, the Charts of Sunday 3rd January - for W/E 9th January

- will NOT be added to either 2009 or 'The Noughties'.

6) It is up to 'Chart Fans' if they want to follow The OCC in this. I DO, as I like

my Sales & Stats Lists to match those of The OCC, & UK Chart Books.....

7) The 2010 'Hit Singles' Book, (Virgin - November 2010) - will have a 'cut-off' Date

of W/E 2nd January 2010.

Wonder if ChartsPlus are barking up the wrong tree in that case.

This.

I will follow this, no matter what dey say ;o

Nope. I think I was clear in what I said... I hope I was!
