Not enough money in it. Makes the scrap during Sept - Dec all the better as acts fight for their commercial lives.

Ist half year - new acs can become established.

2nd half - clear out the deadwood.

There are exceptions but that's they general way it works IMO. And I love the charts from about Sept and by June/July you get to have an idea of what's coming.

This year I think Kyle is releasing earlier in the year which I think is a good move for her. Lower sales on release but she will be able to hold her own in the Autumn album market if she releases the right singles.

Lots of songs being denied physical releases it seems now :o

And woah at the 22nd Feb! No wonder the start of the year is so barren. Some of them could do with moving back a week or two :lol:

OMG at those single releases for the first 3 months they are awful, only 3 tracks stick out at the moment, Owl City, Marina & The Diamonds and Lady GaGa, but honestly I can't see Lady GaGa doing it, its released the same week as Owl City unless its brought forward. At the moment its looking like Owl City till Mid-March at #1. Maybe BEPs might continue their success with Rock That Body, unless Marina gets a week or 2 in between. I'm not holding out for Ellie Goulding as I think Marina will be the success story of the year over Ellie.
I agree with you Mikey, there are several songs that go top 10 in there but none scream massive really . Owl City will prob be #1 in a week or two but i dont agree Lady Gaga has no chance though. I mean Fireflies will be out weeks before the physical and the physical will make little difference anyway. Apparently Christina Aguilera is out late Feb (single) so if thats any good it may do it. The only song that could stop Owl is maybe Marina but I reckon she will get stuck at #2 personally.

What *is* it with this Owl City song - it's being talked of like it'll have a Bryan Adams run at the top?? :huh:

Ke$ha to release second single 22nd February, TBA

+ debut album Animal, on 1st February

It won't. 3 or 4 weeks tops

looks like there'll be a big top 10 clearout on the 22nd of feb, with owl city, beyone/lady gaga, JLS, sugababes, rihanna and possibly pixie lott.

Owl City is already released, he should have clocked up 3+ weeks at #1 by physical release week.

I would expect Telephone and One Shot to reach the top 10 before release.

Sugababes won't make the top ten.

Pixie's last single only made #12, no way Gravity will go top 10.

Rihanna may well be the only one on your list to make the top ten that week (for the first time) :P

I disagree I think they will easily sell over 30k in the first week which should be more than enough for a Top 10 placing.

I disagree. Sugababes have easily reached Top 10 with their last two, and they will promo like crazy if they are releasing the album of the back of it. Pixie released her last single in late November, early December, when sales are so much higher that a third single has to be huge to crack the Top 10. February isn't quite the same.

Plus with Pixie she got Top 10 on itunes then the X Factor final happened.

Final Fantasy - Heartland

He's 'Owen Pallett' now.

After the album is released, it's VERY rare to have subsequent single outpeaking the predecessor, regardless of circumstances. Therefore, I think Gravity will be lucky to go top 20. (notable exception: Paolo Nutini. Pencil Full Of Lead (#17), the 3rd single and second to be released after the album, peaked 2 places higher than 1st single Candy (#19))

Sugababes are clearly heading for a 14-39-71-x chart run with WMK...

I can think of quite a lot of examples from last year (excluding the obvious 2).

James Morrison Feat. Nelly Furtado :: 'Broken Strings' :: #2 ('You Make It Real' :: #8)

The Saturdays :: 'Issues' :: #4 ('Up' :: #5)

Alesha Dixon :: 'Breathe Slow' :: #3 ('The Boy Does Nothing' :: #5)

Miley Cyrus :: 'Fly On The Wall' :: #16 ('7 Things' :: #25)

Pussycat Dolls Feat. Missy Elliott :: 'Whatcha Think About That' :: #9 ('I Hate This Part' :: #12)

Akon Feat. Colby O'Donis & Kardinal Offishal :: 'Beautiful' :: #8 ('I'm So Paid' :: #59)

Beyoncé :: 'Halo' :: #4 ('Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)' :: #9)

Katy Perry :: 'Waking Up In Vegas' :: #19 ('Thinking Of You' :: #27)

Little Boots :: 'Remedy' :: #6 ('New In Town' :: #13)

And the majority of them were released earlier in the year, which was quieter than when the previous single was released.

Good point. I think 'Gravity' is going to be big, but not sell the album as much unfortunately.

'Cry Me Out' could still be Top 10, as well, as Pixie is on Jonathan Ross in a few weeks. I assume she will perform it, but maybe that is wishful thinking :wub:
