Posted January 12, 201015 yr MGMT reveal details of sophomore LP Tuesday, January 12 2010, 21:52 GMT By Oli Simpson MGMT have spoken about their upcoming sophomore album Congratulations. In an interview with Spin, frontman Andrew VanWyngarden confirmed that the record is now complete, with a release date earmarked for as early as this spring. When asked about the album's progress, VanWyngarden replied: "It's mixed and mastered, and now we're just working on presenting it to the world. We spent all of last year working on it, and that's after a good long while touring behind the first record [Oracular Spectacular], so it's definitely nice to be done." Addressing previous claims that the album is a darker effort than their debut, he said: "It's very plaintive. In a weird way, it's like a soul record. That, and there's an instrumental track, the second to last song on the album, called 'Lady Dada's Nightmare'." The duo have already described their new sound as being inspired by '70s rock.
January 13, 201015 yr I don't think you can call me a "fan" seeing as I didn't know they were only on their second album  I thought MGMT had been around for a dog's age!!!!! Anyway, I can't wait to hear their new sound. I thought "Kids" was pretty influenced by old-style music which can only be refreshing given the current chart songs  "Time to pretend" was alright but as ever I shall listen to their new stuff with an open mind :D Edited January 13, 201015 yr by Charli
January 13, 201015 yr Author I bought the first album it wasnt a bad album but the 3 singles were by far the best songs on the album, kids is my faveourite song of theirs i never tire of it and for me it deserved to be a top 10 hit,
January 15, 201015 yr Their first album was an album of 3 (admittedly brilliant) singles and nothing else, hence why they were the only 3 songs totally whored to death.
January 19, 201015 yr Author MGMT 'won't release singles from new LP' Monday, January 18 2010, 15:43 GMT By David Balls, Music Reporter MGMT have revealed that they will not release any singles from their upcoming second album Congratulations. The group, who released debut Oracular Spectacular in 2008, claimed that the new record is a complete body of work without any standout singles. "We'd rather people hear the whole album as an album and see what tracks jump out rather than the ones that get played on the radio - if anything gets played on the radio!" Ben Goldwasseer told NME. "There definitely isn't a 'Time To Pretend' or a 'Kids' on the album. We've been talking about ways to make sure people hear the album as an album in order and not just figure out what are the best three tracks, download those and not listen to the rest of it." MGMT are expected to release the new record in early spring
January 19, 201015 yr Well given what we've all been saying (ie. the only tracks worth bothering with on the first album where the singles), this might not be the best move...
January 19, 201015 yr I thought the first half of 'Oracular Spectacular' were pretty good. The second half were okay. Edited January 19, 201015 yr by Riverside FM11
January 20, 201015 yr No single material? I just lost my interest 50%... Basically this means that the album is either boring or totally something different musically (hope for the latter) It shouldn't be a problem to include catchier songs too....

Basically this means that the album is either boring or totally something different musically (hope for the latter) It shouldn't be a problem to include catchier songs too.... For me, Arcade Fire's singles have never really worked out of the context of the albums. With luck, that's what will happen with MGMT.
January 21, 201015 yr super excited for MGMT's sophomore album. hear it's going to be great. even to this day, electric feel still makes me smile :D

MGMT are expected to release the new record in early spring The title of the article doesn't seem to correspond to their statement, could possibly be twisting words? Hopefully it is, i agree that some albums with a theme, such as Funeral or First Days Of Spring work better as albums than separate songs/singles, but given their track record this could be bad yeh.
January 23, 201015 yr Author Some of the songs will probably end up being downloaded and end up chartings in the singles chart anyhow.
June 16, 201015 yr 8EExTZwKDhc Can't seem to find any other MGMT topics and this one seems rather old...oh well.
June 22, 201015 yr It's working is my favourite song off the album, kind of disappointed with the video though i think it should have had more of a surfer vibe or something. Probably won't do well even though it deserves to, i never saw the flash delirium video once on TV so hopefully it won't be the same with this video.
