So...finally, the Swedish #11 SMASH Hurtful by Erik Hassle (think Jason Mraz - I'm Yours type all conquering #11 in this case) is being released in the UK next month. It has already been added to the Radio 1 playlist in the form of the Starsmith edit, which really sounds barely any different at all apart from a tiny bit more production in the chorus. Probably one of the most sublime pop ballads of recent years, it deserves to be a huge smash hit here and if commercial radio get hold of it (which they will - in July) then it could end up being one of the year's long stayers. Criminally though, mr Hassle has not managed to make it onto any of the big hype lists like his friend Ellie Goulding did (youtube their gorgeous Robyn - Be Mine cover) but hopefully he can be a huge success nonetheless. Of course every three months Erik records a new video for the song, so here is video #4 for Hurtful;

I finally got round to listening to this the other day! Im fairly suprised Radio 1 picked this up tbh since Dont Bring Flowers bombed (or was that just expected to flop?). Anyway, LOVE it.

Really? I was always under the impression that he was expected to have been big last year...that does explain his exclusion from the BBC Poll.

probably the lighting and post production in the video de-gingerising him to make him more suitable for UK audiences :lol: :snif:

I don't know if that's totally it, they could have stuck to the black and white one of that was the case :heehee:

maybe, although this one is much more arty and quirky - he seems to be part of a big 2010 emerging artists trio along with Ellie Goulding and Starsmith - the three acts always seem to be mentioned in the same places/collaborating/touring with each other - maybe they're trying to make him appeal to these audiences by splashing out on blog friendly cool videos :lol:

He is fantastic! Hope he gets round to releasing 'Isn't It Obvious' as some point too.

Plus he really does look like he came from the womb of Sgt June Ackland [he looks like La Roux ha] and was sent off to Swedeen as a baby :o

Looks and sounds like a hit. First listen i think this is very good. If it does get to no.1 it's gonna be in the decent no.1's recently and this year so far (along with Gaga but she was last year really) list for me thats for sure. Nice to hear a really good song and if it can get all the support it needs this could be big :D

Such a stunning song. It'll be a shock hit I reckon! Wasn't this the song that spent like 6 or 7 weeks at number 11 in Sweden?! If so does anyone know the full chart run. It'd be interesting to see it.

 

He deserves to break through.

I think Sweden generally perceive it to be the greatest #11 hit of all time :heehee:

 

watch though, if it's a smash in the UK, word will get back and it will mysteriously re-enter and probably reach a new peak in Sweden - the same happened to With Every Heartbeat (which had been a massive flop in Sweden originally) and Release Me (which had originally peaked at #9 and exited the chart quickly) - it's almost like once a song gets the British seal of approval it must be good! :lol:

Such a beautiful song and it's out on my birthday! I hope at least for top 10 but it deserves top 3
