Sorry to sound rude but that (^) is what i HATE about JLS fans. They have no critical acclaim whatsoever. Their number ones are cos of hormonal oestogen-fuelled teenage girls who would even buy a song that only contained three minutes of JB farting. It's depressing that a generic 'band' are outselling a raw british talent in Alexandra album-wise. I've listened to their album and only Kickstart and Titghtrope at a push are decent. How the hell One Shot is #11 , i'll never want to think about.

 

The MOBOs were voted for by the public (crazy teenage girls will vote like crazy - Alex can't exactly take her top off and flash at every opportunity). The BRITs are a joke. JLS will def win Breakthrough Act and British Single since the girls will vote like crazy. However, no self-respecting R1 listener will vote JLS ahead of the other noms. They won't win British Group. It's hilarious they are in such a category with credible bands.

 

Jls had a wonderful year but let's face it they do not deserve a brit award (neither does Alexandra). Especialy Jls beating a handful of good nominated groups will be a tragedy, so I hope and believe they won't win this.

It is more than obvious now that Jls have a much more solid fanbase than Alex, but i have to agree about the 'no critical acclaim' and 'crazy teenage girls' thing...

This kind of fans usually desert their "favorite" artists when the next hottie shows up, so if it is just crazy teenage girls we will soon hear a loud BOOM.

 

+I don't really see that raw british talent in Alexandra...but this is most common with most winners of such shows. They sing very good other artists songs but they lack the personality,creativity and quality to produce such songs themselves... Only Leona and Kelly Clarkson had sth special IMO but both are weakenned.

As someone said before, this is a Will/Gareth situation. I.E. Gareth will overshadow the winner short-term but in the long run will be forgotten - based on lack of music quality and poor target fanbase.

 

And i'll ignore the "Marvin N Aston is hot" comment because that attitude is really annoying and it will just provoke me to have an even bigger rant than i'm having now. And btw, it's "are hot" not "is hot" ;)

Brilliant post! Although to be honest I'd beg to differ about Alexandra :P

 

The reason for the success of JLS (only in terms of record sales) is that they are probably the most marketable act ever to come from X Factor - they're a young boyband who are loved by young girls who watch the show (and are also the main target audience for the show) who think they are 'well fit' and go hysterical at the sight of them.

 

It makes me laugh when people say 'they've done well considering they didn't win x factor'. Epic (their label) had no hesitation in snapping them up after they were on the show, because they saw the perfect opportunity to make quick money out of them, by marketing them into a group aimed directly at those fans in every way (the cheesy songs, lyrics about girls, silly dancing and shirt-lifting etc.) to ensure they sell loads of records.

 

And because of all of that, and their X Factor fame, all the tv shows and concerts/festivals want them on as guests to pull in viewers, and in turn JLS get promo for their songs, so it's win-win all round. It's nothing to do with their music actually being any good. I'd give them their due if they made good music, but it's nothing but MOR boyband fodder, engineered purely to sell to their fans gained from X Factor. There is nothing about JLS that makes them any better than any other manufactured boyband that has come and gone in the last 10 years - the only difference with JLS is that they had the luxury of instant fame and a huge fanbase of teenage girls handed to them on a plate by X Factor, which is why they have been manufactured into just another formulaic cheesy boyband aimed at kids - and that's why they are selling so many records. They've had it so easy it's unreal.
