Saturday, 23rd January [Check Local Listings for Times] A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

Join more than one hundred of the biggest names in entertainment for this historic event with can't-miss musical performances by Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, Sting, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Beyonce, Coldplay, Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z, Rihanna and More

Next 2 weeks ? I thought it would have been recorded a lot faster than that

You are forgetting that Simon Cowell has to get Jedward to number one too so will have to release it after that.

i hate this because it is just simon shamelessly exploiting the earthquake. there will be a load of his own label artists like leona who could use the extra publicity on it. why don't simon and all of the artists donate money themselves instead of using this as good publicity.

how do we know that they are not donating money?

because we would know about it if they were. also the amount it costs to make the record (studio time, producing, making the cd ect) could all just be donated instead. im pretty sure if the money used to make this song (which will be recouped by the single sales) and each just donated a nominal amount it would raise more money anyway. but heck thats not going to get them as much free good publicity.

Apparently, the Single is Gordon Brown's idea. It is obvious why HE came

up with the idea. He looks certain to lose the May or June General Election

- so, it is another idea to try to gain Votes. (True). Like many Politicians,

he will use any technique he can think of, to try to become more popular.

Why can't he, Simon Cowell, (& the rest), simply give cash - quietly - to

the Haiti Relief Fund? Why a Single? Answer - we've all got to SEE/KNOW

that they are generous, charitable, & 'giving'.

How sad that people feel that they need to use other peoples misfortunes

to try to get Votes, No.1 Singles, & attention.....

Sadly, it looks like this Decade will see a Top 10, (of the Decade), that is

full of Charity Covers, & Reality TV Winners. None of which is good for

Music. (As regards the Charity Singles - it is all because many rich people

cannot give to Charity unless we ALL know about it).

I'm quite surprised REM allowed this song to be used given how personal it is and what it's actually about..

^ Indeed. And to waive the royalties. Good on them.

Oh and zeus555 I think it was more The Suns idea- they got Simon and then got Gordon involved - purely to waive VAT I'd say.

Here is an Article about it at the 'Daily Mail' Site. See the 79 Comments beneath it.

I agree with many of them. Simon Cowell is about as popular as Swine Flu, in the view

of a great many people. There is no need for a Single. It is being made to attract

attention - like far too many Charity Singles.

I'll pass on reading Daily Mail readers comments thanks

If we were all like the average DM reader someone book me a plane ticket, I'm emigrating.

Why can't people just get over it, accept people will buy the single and lots MORE cash will be raised. Jesus.

I'm indifferent to it really, I do agree that they could record an original song and not a cover but again, it's probably because they haven't got a huge amount of time I'm guessing? Line up so far looks pretty $h!t tbh, but oh well, if it's going to raise alot of money then I'm all for it.

Well I'd never use the Daily Mail comments section to give an accurate representation of ANY topic!

I really don;t see any problem with it, you're not going to be forced to buy it. There are lots of people out there however who will listen to what Simon, Cheryl and these "stars" say, if they're using their power to get people to donate then I say good on them.

And who is to say they haven't donated personally themselves? I know if they came out and said they had or made a big deal about donating thesmelves they'd be criticised - can't really win there, can they?
