All-star 'We Are The World' remake planned

Digitalspy.co.uk

Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are reportedly recruiting an all-star lineup to re-record 'We Are The World' to celebrate the song's 25th anniversary.

The duo have allegedly urged stars to stay in Los Angeles an extra night after the Grammy Awards this weekend to celebrate a quarter-century since Ken Kragen, Richie and Michael Jackson organised the original 'We Are the World' with Jones.

According to Billboard, artists including Usher, Natalie Cole and John Legend have been invited to take part in the event, which will then be turned into a video and single as in 1985.

Proceeds are expected to be donated to the Haiti earthquake disaster appeal. In 1985, 'We Are The World' profits were donated to African famine relief.

Oh dear... I can't stand this man! yet another crap cover will clog the charts for months... but if it's fully to help Haiti so be it...

Really excited to hear the Jay-Z / Coldplay / U2 single, which I'd overlooked previous to hearing the line-up.

We Are The World, not so much...

That Jay-Z collab sounds amazing :o I'm a bit gutted they haven't got Leona though, who wouldn't be out of place in that line-up :( Hopefully she'll be added soon. Ah well at least she'll be on at least one of these Haiti records
According to Radio 2's Simon Mayo show just announced US Haiti Aid single "Hope For Haiti Now" an original composition written by Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z & Chris Martin.

Acts already confirmed on this US Charity single include: Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira; Sting, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Lady GaGa, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow as well as Coldplay, U2 & Jay-Z.

More are scheduled to be added....

Somehow I reckon it might just be about one million times better than whatever Simon Cowell can come up with.

Well, it's originality is debatable if Chris Martin is involved

It does sound better than what Cowell will come up with.

Not all those people are appearing on the single, that's the list of the performers at the telethon. It's only Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z & Chris Martin.

Yea that was my first thought too..but perhaps that's changed? Not sure though.

Still with this being Cowell backed by The Sun too I'm sure ITV will premier the song in primetime as soon as its ready.

Don't like the sound of this. I bet it's going to have minimum effort put into it just like all the other covers, and will raise a fair bit for the charity. Then will just get annoying, and physical copies will keep it near the top. After a while, it will free-fall down the Top 100.

It's a bit sick that Simon is using almost any issue to release a single now, first Michael Jackson's death, now the earthquake. If he wants to do something for charity I think he should be more inventive. It might work wonders.

Artists will be revealed at 10PM on ITV news, Cheryl and Leona already confirmed.

Edited by outlook

They had to practically beg Beyonce to duet with Alexandra on X Factor. She only ended up doing the duet once she heard Alexandra sing.

Beyonce is the biggest female star around she won't be on a charity record with the likes of Jedward and Joe. If anyone thinks she would be then they need to think again.

If it's for charity then she wouldn't really care who she sings with.

The line up is just like a buzzjack dream.

It sounds really complicated - But it might sound nice :D

Right... Let's rewind how many different charity tracks is there now for the Haiti single. Is We Are The World the 5th or the 100th charity track, I think 1 is enough, we don't need half a dozen rammed down our throats.

Just the two definite so far apparently.

More tonight on ITV News then? And I expect The Sun will reveal them as well. Hopefully the song will be announced too.

I was reading this thread today at work but didn't get chance to sign in.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I hear the song. It might be surprisingly good, or predictably terrible. Only time will tell...

And probably again 25% off one copy's price is going for helping Haiti :nocheer:

This reminds me of the 2001 US charity single 'What's Going On' collectively known as Artists Against Aids:
