Posted January 21, 201015 yr I felt that this topic was necessary due to the announcement of a Jedward and Haiti charity single. Many people will suggest that I am moaning as the charts are not that important and they do not affect my life negatively in any way. You are right the charts are not that important to my life considering what is going on in other countries like Haiti. However, music is important to my life and has been for many years. I feel that Simon Cowell has completely destroyed the UK music scene like a cancer. Robson and Jerome was stage one which many people put up with due to the fact they were not overexposed, from what I can remember, and the fact we never had to put up with Simon Cowell's face when they released singles. I now feel that the cancer has reached its aggressive most angry stage and in a couple of years time he will have destroyed the UK music scene all together. 2010 brought a new beginning and everyone was positive as RATM beat the terrible Joe McElderry to number one. We started off the year with Gaga and IYAZ getting to number one which was such a massive improvement on the dire music we have had to put up with from Simon Cowell since October. I naively thought we would be Cowell free until October until last nights National TV Awards [which btw were a complete joke]. Why exactly were Jedward given a primetime tv slot embarassing the nation even further when they were never actually popular whilst on the X Factor. Before anyone argues this look at voting stats they were always near the bottom and their popularity was a media built Simon Cowell driven excercise to manipulate the public. Their song is absoultely dire and will no doubt be number one for weeks until the money making Simon Cowell cash in charity record. There are many of you on here who will buy this vile Jedward song and before you do I consider you think about your decision. You are further lining the pockets of a horrible man who controls the UK media and is attempting to control the US media and a pair of untalented useless twins who can't sing a note in tune. I also ask you to reconsider buying this charity record at 3.99 as the majority of this money will not go to charity. Spend your donations on Haiti from the many legitimate charities around. Anyway, I look forward to the great music that will come out this year and the many gigs I will be going to none of which will line a vile man's pockets.
January 21, 201015 yr I'm more bored about people starting threads about how much they dislike Cowell than i am listening to the music he releases on his lable - Get over it people! There are 3 threads on Buzzjack about him so far tis week
January 21, 201015 yr Imagine if this forum had existed in the late 1980s, I wonder if there'd be a load of anti-Stock/Aitken/Waterman posts? I think like SAW, eventually the novelty will wear off and the whole X Factor monopoly will begin to fade. You'll get a couple of stars continuing on, like Kylie did, but eventually they'll find a new record label and make better music.

Jedward may have been near the bottom, but that doesnt reflect their popularity- there clearly had a huge fanbase- many people just liked watching them and didnt vote, and apart from Joe, they were the only act who never came bottom of the voting Im not looking forward to the Haiti single, but he might actaully get some big stars on it and not just the X factor finalists dont you think your overeacting a little? January 21, 201015 yr OMG... I just was viewing the site as a guest till I saw this, and I just had to log back in... over reaction much  So what... its British music at its worst, British music is not going to get any better we just have to rely on the American $h!te all the time that filters our chart for good music.
January 21, 201015 yr the main problem is as simon said himself its not about the music. its a business to him, its cynical and calculated. his acts are pure cash cows if they don't deliver then he is ruthless and drops them. another problem is that its no longer a level playing field, reality driven acts get so much exposure not just on his shows but thanks to simon's contacts in the media. their material is often weak or lazy cover versions, do they deserve #1s? over other better more credible songs that had to do it the hard way. i can't believe that even the bbc and radio 1 pander to simon too by featuring and playlisting some of his terrible singles. they are all helping promote his tv programmes even though they are on a rival channel. BUT it gets worse, cause now we have a section of the population who are used to reality tv acts and expect to get their pop music that way. like some teenagers that have been watching since they were children. simon has his hooks in deep in the UK music industry and every year it will grow with a new batch of cash cows that weren't good enough to get a record deal on their own merits unlike most pop acts. what RATM was freakishly hard to pull off, taking him on and denying him #1s is so tough but interesting to see ;) Edited January 21, 201015 yr by perfecto

Louis doesn't have a record label they will be signed with Simon. Voting does reflect their popularity and they were never anywhere near as popular as the media made out infact the majority can't stand them. Big stars won't be on the Haiti record. No I don't think I'm overreacting everywhere you go I have to listen or hear to one of SYCO's dire acts. There is no getting away from it.

If people like you did not endorse this crap then we wouldn't have to put up with it.
January 21, 201015 yr If people like you did not endorse this crap then we wouldn't have to put up with it. Who said I was endorsing it  yes I agree its crap but Haiti is big news at the moment, and Simon is on button to help, its not as if I'm going to buy the single, as I know it will be a cover version. If acts like Paul Weller, Sting, Dido etc etc and other well known acts, than I would consider in buying it, at least it would sound better than having X Factor rejects.

He knows he can profit from it that is the problem. He will make at least £1 per single. As if he really cares about Haiti if he did then he would be donating $1 million dollars like Sandra Bullock has instead of inflicting a crap charity single on us that he profits from.
January 21, 201015 yr He will make at least £1 per single. Is that a fact or are you assuming? No press release or indeed information about the release has been officially published yet.
January 21, 201015 yr Unfortunately, there are millions of people in the UK who will not donate to the Haiti appeal or whatever charity it is by the conventional methods, but they will when there is a charity single on the go and they get something in return. Helping someone isn't enough for these people, and if the charts can be used to raise more money then so be it. Cowell knows an opportunity when he sees one, but I don't think he is solely to blame for the state of the UK charts. If you look at the radio airplay charts from last week then there's a dozen tracks in there that shouldn't be anywhere near the most played songs of the week, so it leads to the charts becoming stale because people only download what they hear on the radio. At least X Factor offers variety with different themes and songs from different artists every week.
January 21, 201015 yr Author Is that a fact or are you assuming? No press release or indeed information about the release has been officially published yet. That is what he has made from all previous charity singles so I don't see why this would be any different. Of course they won't announce that in a press release you have to read the small print.

I agree that the radio stations are largely to blame for the charts being stale but Cowell's influence can be seen there too. At one time artists from talent shows were largely snubbed by the major radio stations until they had proved their worth now the X Factor crop are automatically A listed. I agree and I seriously don't think people just buy what they hear on the radio. There are many songs that are not playlisted and make the top ten [Esmee Denters], I'm sorry a better example never came to my head lol. Then radio ignore brilliant pop tracks like Shark In The Water in favour of generic crap from JLS.

People will buy whatever is considered popular at the time on TV and radio, and they will download what is high in the iTunes charts, e.g. artists like Esmee who are put there in the first place by people who can discover music for themselves and not have it spoon-fed to them.

I know. It seems like a large majority of this country has to be spoon fed songs before they are interested. Journey in the top 10 is a prime example. It has been around for 30 years and is only a hit now as no one could be bothered to have their own musical tastes.
January 21, 201015 yr I don't really care tbh. Music is about entertainment, and alongside his tv shows, that's what he delivers, not to mention the fact that he's ridiculously successful. I honestly have no problem with him, dominance, xfactor etc.
January 21, 201015 yr I'm no Cowell fan, but if he can manipulate the public into doing anything and make millions off it, why shouldn't he? The public are so stupid they deserve what they get.
